Wayne Carey opens up about his 'street fight' drama as he and Sam Newman blame 'activists' for barring them from footy event
Carey, 54, was embroiled in a heated exchange outside the Albert Park Hotel on the night of June 5.
The Kangaroos great and an unidentified man appeared to engage in a shouting match with a third man wearing a backpack.
Carey was later seen grabbing the backpack-wearing man by the sleeve of his shirt while the other man implored Carey to 'relax'.
Carey later said he had been harassed by the man with whom he became entangled.
'Unfortunately, there are antagonists who target you based on your experiences as a has-been footballer,' he said.
'This individual is a serial harasser - and he chose to repeat his behaviour through vile and obscene slurs, again, last night.'
On Wednesday, Carey addressed the issue on the 'You Cannot Be Serious' podcast, explaining that the the man involved had since reached out to him.
'I have received an apology,' said Carey.
'This has happened a couple of times, the same person, the same person has since apologised to not only myself, but my partner Jess and other people that he involved that night.'
The AFL icon didn't want to go into too much detail about the person involved, but suggested that he was seeking help.
'I'm not going to be a hypocrite and hang him out to dry, what I am going to say is he's put the first step forward, he's sent a message to myself and Jess apologising... and said he's got some stuff to deal with.
'And I appreciate more than ever someone who owns what has happened.'
Carey also expressed his frustration at how the incident was reported, saying that it wasn't a 'late-night fracas' as some media reported.
The incident comes after Carey and fellow footy great Sam Newman had their invitations to speak at a fundraising event rescinded.
The pair were asked to speak at the Barwon Heads Football and Netball Club charity event on June 21 at the Barwon Heads Hotel.
However, they were told not to show up, according to The Herald Sun.
It is understood that committee members had not been happy with the appearance of the 'You Cannot Be Serious' podcast hosts attending the event.
Newman addressed the issue on his podcast saying that he and Carey 'don't give a f**k' about the decision.
'It's the weak, feckless, insipid people who run those clubs who are controlled by some activists,' said Newman.
Carey said he was happy with the decision because he had agreed to appear as a favour and he can now spend his time elsewhere.
Elsewhere in the podcast, Newman brought up recent comments where he referred to the AFLW as a 'lesbian league', as reported by Daily Mail Australia.
'The Daily Mail, they're so good to us,' said Newman.
'They reprinted the entire conversation we had about the women's football league.
'And I said - throwaway line - "the lesbian league", and they said "disgraceful comment".
Newman questioned why it was considered disgraceful, claiming it's just a fact that a lot of lesbians played footy.

About 110 employees will be laid off as part of the process, while many Wondery employees will transition to other parts of Amazon, the company said in an emailed statement on Monday. "As video podcasting has grown in popularity, we have learned that creator-led, video-integrated shows have different audience needs and require distinct discovery, growth and monetization strategies compared to audio-first, narrative series," Steve Boom, vice president of audio, Twitch and games at Amazon, wrote in the memo. Wondery was acquired by Amazon in 2021 and has seen podcast revenue quadruple since then as the studio expanded its slate to include video podcasts and creator-driven series, according to the memo. Under the new structure, Wondery's narrative podcast studio - home to shows such as "Dr. Death" and "American Scandal" - along with the Wondery+ subscription service, will move to Audible, the e-commerce giant's audio platform. Its creator-focused podcast team that produces shows including "Mind the Game", "New Heights", and "Armchair Expert" will join a new Creator Services group within Amazon's Talent Services division. This new team will continue to operate the creator-focused podcast studio under the Wondery brand. Dan Sheehan, the British and Irish Lions hooker, has been banned for four matches after a dangerous clear-out on Australia fly-half Tom Lynagh that went unpunished by the officials during the third Test. According to a press release issued on Monday morning by World Rugby, Sheehan did not accept that foul play had occurred nor that the offence warranted a citing. This extended his eventual ban, though it will be reduced by a week if the 27-year-old completes World Rugby's coaching intervention programme, widely known as 'tackle school'. Disturbing moment cop is filmed pushing over a woman from behind - as it is revealed what allegedly sparked the response
A uniformed police officer has been filmed pushing a woman in the back, who then appeared to hit her head on a metal bollard. The incident unfolded outside a school on Majara Street in Bungendore, 40km east of Canberra, about 2.50pm on July 22. Officers were called after a boy had allegedly threatened another boy and then thrown a rock through a woman's car window, smashing it. The woman got out of her damaged car before she was threatened and chased by a 15-year-old boy and a 32-year-old woman known to him, police allege. The boy was then arrested which prompted the 32-year-old woman to get aggressive towards officers, who warned her about her alleged behaviour at the time. As officers bundled the boy into a police car, the 32-year-old woman allegedly went back to the car owner and threatened her again. A senior constable then returned and intervened. Footage recorded at the the scene showed an officer approaching the woman as she argued before he pushed her. The officer then told her to get up and hauled her back from the roadside as she appeared to writhe in pain. The NSW Police Force told Daily Mail Australia it is aware of the footage. 'Police are reviewing footage circulating on social media about an incident involving a NSW Police officer on Majara Street, Bungendore, about 2.50pm, on Tuesday 22 July 2025,' a spokeswoman said. Police said a boy and a woman were taken to Queanbeyan Police Station and charged over the alleged incident. The boy was charged with stalk or intimidate intending fear of physical harm, contravening prohibition or restriction of an apprehended violence order (AVO), and destroy or damage property. He was granted conditional bail, to appear at a children's court on August, 11, 2025. The woman was charged with hindering or resisting a police officer in the execution of duty, and two counts of stalk or intimidate intending fear of physical harm. She was also granted conditional bail to appear in Queanbeyan Local Court on August 11, 2025.
