Jurrien Timber explains how Arsenal change the narrative against PSV

Yahoo04-03-2025

With the Premier League title race slipping away, the European campaign now represents their best opportunity for silverware.
Having fallen 13 points behind Liverpool with only 11 games remaining, Arsenal arrive in Eindhoven under pressure to deliver a statement performance without many of their statement players.
Timber, who previously played in the Eredivisie before his €40m move to north London, believes this fixture provides the perfect opportunity to shift momentum.
'Tomorrow is a beautiful game to change the narrative and to win,' Timber said. 'We change the narrative by winning games, it's as easy as that. We have to score tomorrow, we have to win games, and I think in the Champions League you only have two games.
'We have so much quality in our group. But I think it is a beautiful challenge for us as a team to put our front players, or anyone, in the best position to score goals. Hopefully, we are going to show that tomorrow.'
While Arsenal seek to prove themselves on the biggest stage, PSV winger Ivan Perisic has questioned their ability to do so.
Perisic, who had a brief spell at Tottenham Hotspur, believes his side can exploit Arsenal's recent struggles and build on their own strong home form.
'Arsenal often lacked that one bit to win something last year,' said Perisic. 'We have to be fully prepared, then we have a good chance to beat them.
'It will be a tough game against a young team with a strong coach. But I believe in our team and we have to play at our best. When you hear the Champions League anthem, it gives something special.'
The pressure is mounting for Mikel Arteta's side, but as Timber insists, they have the chance to flip the script, and a strong result in Eindhoven will set the tone for the remainder of their European journey.

Liverpool confirm agreement to REPLACE fan favourite

One of the big factors why Kelleher was regarded as such a brilliant no.2 was because he was able to come in and replace Alisson in the Brazilian's absence. Kelleher was able to do this due to his composure on the ball and brilliant reflexes. Advertisement His composure on the ball came from playing as a striker in Ireland until the age of 13-years-old, when he switched into playing as a goalkeeper instead. 'He was a very good centre-forward and represented his county in that position," Eddie Harrington told the Liverpool ECHO back in 2022. 'He only went in goal at Under-14s level and that was only about seven years ago. That's a massive transition. We taught him to pass it out from the back but he probably had the footwork from being an outfielder," Harrington continued. Now Liverpool are about to sign a player very similar to Kelleher, who went through the same journey at around the same age. Advertisement The Reds have confirmed the arrival of Armin Pecsi from Puskas Akademia. Like Kelleher, he is a brilliant shot-stopper with great reflexes, who prevented 14.33 goals in the Hungarian top flight last season. But even more interestingly, like Kelleher, Pecsi also played as a forward at a younger age and learned the foundations of the game as an outfielder before switching to become a goalkeeper. "For a long time I played up front, I also played in goal, but I preferred to play as a striker," Pecsi told FEOL. "Even at the age of maybe 11 or 12, I was still playing in both striker and goalkeeper," he continued. Advertisement "Then there came a point when I was told it would be good to decide which I wanted to do, and I decided to stay in goal and continue there. I decided on my own." In this sense, Liverpool might have just signed their Kelleher 2.0 and have already replaced the beloved fan favourite at Anfield in the matter of days. All for the paltry sum of £1.5m, Anfield Watch understands. There's no denying this is the perfect deal.

Dortmund agree £31m deal to sign Sunderland's Bellingham

Jobe Bellingham is yet to win his first cap for England's senior team [Getty Images] Borussia Dortmund have agreed a deal with Sunderland to sign Jobe Bellingham for an initial 32m euros (£26.96m) plus 5m euros (£4.2m) in add-ons. The 19-year-old midfielder had garnered interest from across Europe but it is Dortmund, former home of elder brother Jude, who are set to secure his signature. Advertisement Bellingham has played for Sunderland since 2023 and helped them secure Premier League promotion this past season, making 43 appearances for the Black Cats and scoring four goals across all competitions. The England youth international started his career at Birmingham City, coming through the academy before playing two years of senior football for the club. Borussia Dortmund experienced an inconsistent season in 2024-25 but had a strong finish to the campaign winning their final five matches to finish fourth and secure Champions League football for next season. If the deal is completed by 10 June, Bellingham would be able to play in the upcoming Club World Cup. Advertisement That tournament takes place in the United States from 14 June to 13 July. Bellingham has been named in the European Under-21 Championship, to be held in Slovakia from 11-28 June, but England boss Lee Carsley has said he will release players so they can compete in the Club World Cup. Mirroring his brother It is thought Bellingham is keen to follow in his brother's footsteps. Jude, two years Jobe's senior, also came through Birmingham City's academy before moving to Dortmund in 2020 and then Real Madrid in 2023. Bellingham is already mirroring his brother's career with the move to Dortmund and he was also named the Championship's Young Player of the Year in May, five years after Jude won the same award.

Mbappé steers France to 2-0 win over Germany in Nations League

MUNICH -- Kylian Mbappé led France to Nations League consolation before Spain and Portugal play the final on Sunday. The Real Madrid star scored one goal and set up the other as France defeated host nation Germany 2-0 in the third-place decider. Aurélien Tchouaméni set up club teammate Mbappé to score just before the break after Germany had dominated the first half, and Mbappé set up substitute Michael Olise to seal the result in the 84th after a much-improved second-half performance from the visitors. France coach Didier Deschamps had made his lack of enthusiasm for the game clear the day before, noting his team had little to gain from playing it, and it was apparent which side was more motivated in front of the Stuttgart fans. Germany missed a host of chances then had Deniz Undav's equalizer ruled out for a foul by Niclas Füllkrug in the buildup. France was without injured Paris Saint-Germain star Ousmane Dembélé. Both sides were forced to play for the consolation prize after losing their semifinals. Germany lost 2-1 to Portugal on Wednesday before France lost 5-4 to European champion Spain on Thursday. Spain was playing Portugal later in Munich.
