Together they won the Eredivisie title in 2023 - and followed up that success with a Dutch cup. Timber's current contract expires in 2026 with no signals that he is prepared to sign a new one. That could mean if everything goes to plan with his recovery then he could be a cut-price option for Slot's midfield.

Northeast OPP mourn loss of beloved police dog
There was a very special retirement from the Metro Vancouver Transit Police this week. Ontario Provincial Police are mourning the loss of a longtime police dog, Timber, who passed away last month. Timber, police badge No. 1843K9, was born in 2009 and completed the police training course in December 2010, working with his lifelong handler, Const. Barry Kelly. 'Timber was a general service dog until his retirement' in September 2017, police said on social media. 'Timber lived out his retirement years with PC Kelly, his loving family and canine cousins Otis and Dance. Timber passed away peacefully with PC Kelly at his side on 23-Oct-2023.' Police then quoted the poem Rainbow Bridge, which tells of a happy resting place for pets: 'There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. 'All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.' Eventually, when their human arrives, they are reunited. 'The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. 'Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together ...'

Arsenal: Jurrien Timber to have operation on ankle in bid to be fit for new season
Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber is set to have an operation on his ankle. Timber is understood to have been playing through the pain barrier for the past few months to help Arsenal in their Champions League run. The Gunners were knocked out in the semi-final stage nearly two weeks ago by Paris Saint-Germain and Timber has not played since. The right-back is now set to have a minor procedure to solve the ankle issue he has been having. It is too early to put a definitive timeline on Timber's return, but there is early optimism he will be back ready for pre-season. Arsenal are heading to the Far East this summer, where they will play matches in Singapore and Hong Kong. Timber has had an excellent season and has been one of Arsenal's standout performers. The 23-year-old has bounced back from missing the whole of his debut campaign with a knee injury. Timber has been a regular for Arsenal and, in the Premier League, only five of the Gunners' outfield players have played more minutes than him. Ben White has started the last two games at right-back in Timber's absence and is expected to keep his place for Sunday's trip to Southampton. Arsenal are sweating over the fitness of William Saliba for that game after he was forced off during Sunday's win over Newcastle with a hamstring issue. The Frenchman is due to be assessed by Arsenal's medical staff in the coming days, but they will not take any risks with him if he is not 100 per cent.
