Udaipur Files Producer Amit Jani Granted Y-Category Security with Restricted Movement
Producer Amit Jani of Udaipur Files gets Y-category security from the Central government due to threats. The protection includes 11 CRPF personnel, limited to North India.
Amit Jani, the producer of the controversial upcoming film Udaipur Files, has been granted Y-category security following threats received in connection with the project. The Central government has sanctioned this security arrangement, although it will only be effective in parts of North India.
The Ministry of Home Affairs' Y-category protection includes 11 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel. However, the protection is limited to specific regions, including Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. This means Jani will not have access to the same level of security in other parts of the country.
Confirming the news, Jani expressed his gratitude on social media. Sharing the update on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, 'Heartfelt thanks to Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and Home Minister Shri Amit Shah ji for providing Y category security to the Centre @narendramodi @AmitShah @HMOIndia @PMOIndia".

Udaipur Files is based on the real-life murder of Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor from Udaipur who was killed in 2022 after he allegedly posted content on social media in support of BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. Her comments on the Prophet Muhammad had sparked a nationwide controversy at the time. Following the murder, the accused had uploaded a video online, claiming responsibility for the act and stating that it was in retaliation for the tailor's online post.
One of the accused in the case, Javed, approached the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the release of the film. Earlier, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ordered 150 cuts in the film before clearing it for release.
Initially scheduled to hit theatres on July 11, 2025, Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder will now release on August 8, 2025. The film features Vijay Raaz in the lead role and has faced delays due to censorship and legal hurdles.

Centre to withdraw order granting release of film Udaipur files, Delhi HC told
The Centre on Friday (August 1, 2025) informed the Delhi High Court that it was withdrawing its decision granting nod to the release of the film Udaipur Files - Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder, and will take a decision on the revision petitions 'afresh'. The court, which was hearing two pleas challenging the Centre's decision allowing the release of the movie, directed the parties to appear before the government on August 4 and make their submissions. The court was informed by the counsel for the film's producer that the movie is scheduled to be released on August 8 and they would take some time for making arrangements for releasing it by engaging the theatres. The court took on record statement by Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma, representing the Central government as also the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), that the government will withdraw the earlier decision granting nod to the release of the film and 'take a decision on the revision petitions preferred by the petitioners afresh'. Noting the submissions, the court disposed of the two petitions filed by Mohammed Javed, one of the accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case, and Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind president Maulana Arshad Madani. The Centre's counsel had said the film has undergone a two-step filter, first by the censor board, which suggested 55 cuts, and second by the committee, which further asked for six cuts, totalling 61 cuts. Javed's counsel objected to the release of the film on the ground that it would prejudice his case during the trial. Kanhaiya Lal, an Udaipur-based tailor in Rajasthan, was murdered in 2022, allegedly by Mohammad Riyaz and Mohammad Ghous, for sharing a social media post in support of former BJP leader Nupur Sharma after her controversial comments on Prophet Mohammed. The trial is pending before the special NIA court in Jaipur.

‘Volatile…': Ex-PM Deve Gowda Slams Opposition For Endorsing Trump's ‘Dead Economy' Remark
Last Updated: Former PM HD Deve Gowda criticised US President Trump for calling India's economy "dead," labeling him volatile and irresponsible. Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda on Friday lashed out at US President Donald Trump over his recent comments describing India's economy as 'dead", saying that the latter is the most 'volatile, uncivil, and irresponsible" head of state in modern history. In a statement, the JD(S) stalwart said that he was 'surprised" by Trump's 'baseless and ill-tempered remarks" on the Indian economy, and accused the US President of behaving badly not just with India but 'with every other country across the world." 'I don't think modern history has seen another head of state who has been so volatile, uncivil, and irresponsible. Mr Trump has not just behaved badly with India, but with every other country across the world. He has not spared his own longstanding allies," the former Prime Minister said. 'Even a small trader and a poor farmer in India, who conducts his business with great dignity, integrity and humanity, can teach many lessons to Mr. Trump." Read my full statement on the US President's recent comments on India. @narendramodi @PMOIndia @PiyushGoyal @AmitShah — H D Devegowda (@H_D_Devegowda) August 1, 2025 The 92-year-old Rajya Sabha MP said that Trump has offended not just India but several countries across the world. He said that there was "something fundamentally wrong" with the US President. 'There is something fundamentally wrong with him for which reason, diplomacy or statecraft cannot diagnose and address," he added. Gowda further said that even a small trader or poor farmer in India, who works with dignity and integrity, could teach Trump a lesson in conduct. 'Even a small trader and a poor farmer in India, who conducts his business with great dignity, integrity, and humanity, can teach many lessons to Mr Trump," he added. Gowda Praises PM Modi The former Prime Minister further praised the PM Narendra Modi-led government for standing firm against Trump's "bullying" and not succumbing to external pressure. 'I am very happy and proud that India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has not compromised our national interest. It has not blinked to Mr Trump's bullying and has shown that it will never be dictated by threat," he added. He also lauded the Modi government for going "the full length" to protect the agricultural sector and small and medium businesses, "on which more than half the nation's population is dependent". He asserted that the government's "firm stand" would lead to "national resurgence of an unprecedented scale". Gowda also defended India's economic performance, noting that it remains one of the fastest-growing economies in the world and currently ranks fifth globally. Responding to Trump's 'dead economy" jibe, he said the US President was either 'blind or ill-informed." The former Prime Minister also hailed India's democratic and sovereign character, saying that the country has always acted in its national interest since Independence, with the "God-given ability and strength to negotiate all difficulties that come its way and emerge stronger". Gowda's Jibe At Opposition The veteran leader also rebuked some opposition leaders for echoing Trump's statements. He urged them not to act as 'deluded spokespersons" of the US President. 'They should not harm themselves and their parties, and end up very soon in the dustbin of history alongside Mr. Trump," he said. Gowda's statement came after Trump imposed a 25% tariff on all Indian goods starting August 1. Later, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, backed Trump's criticism, saying, 'Yes, he is right. Everybody knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy. I'm glad President Trump has stated a fact." About the Author Shobhit Gupta Shobhit Gupta is a sub-editor at and covers India and International news.
