Operation Simama leads to multiple arrests during Edenvale crime crackdow
Multiple suspects were arrested recently when law enforcement agencies joined forces in Edenvale as part of a large-scale crime prevention initiative.
Conducted between July 9 and July 11, Operation Simama brought together the SAPS, the Flying Squad, EMPD, Gauteng Traffic Police, Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens, private security stakeholders, and the Edenvale CPF.
According to Edenvale Police Station's communications officer, Warrant Officer Jacob Mashile, the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to reduce crime within the Edenvale policing precinct.

Edenvale CPF public relations officer Fiona Pickett explained that the operation focused on Edenvale and surrounding areas. High-visibility patrols, stop-and-search initiatives, compliance inspections, and intelligence-led interventions were all part of the coordinated effort.
'Residents are encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement, remain vigilant, and report suspicious activity,' said Pickett.
The operation led to the detention of 20 undocumented foreign nationals, who were handed over to the Department of Home Affairs for further processing.
In addition, two suspects were arrested on drug-related charges, and six motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

As part of broader investigations, 15 South African nationals were profiled.
'This operation highlights the power of collaboration,' said Edenvale Vispol Commander Lieutenant Colonel Shadrack Magcuntsu.
'When law enforcement agencies and community structures work together, we send a strong message that criminal activity will not be tolerated.'

The two officers were both seasoned veterans – Sintwa had 23 years of service, while Masenye had served for 17 years. Their deaths form part of a growing trend of violence against police. Since April, six officers have been killed in targeted attacks, with 27 officers having lost their lives in the past year. The Hawks are currently reviewing surveillance footage from both the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court and a filling station where the officers reportedly stopped before the ambush. Police officer 'fatally shoots' estranged wife as community take matters into their own hands

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba reported that Hlanganani police in Mopani District responded to two horrific murders on August 9 at around 3 pm, at Nkuna Kraal Mall in Nkuzana village, where a police sergeant reportedly fatally shot his estranged wife in the presence of their 6-year-old child. ' According to the reports, the female victim (Sergeant) was out with two adults and her six-year-old child when her husband, with whom they had been separated for around seven months, approached her. ' Ledwaba added that a heated argument reportedly erupted between the couple, after which the husband allegedly grabbed a service firearm and shot the victim in the upper body. As he tried to flee, the enraged community, which witnessed the attack, assaulted him and set him on fire next to his car. ' When he attempted to run to the vehicle to flee the scene, the community who observed the entire incident chased and assaulted him, setting him alight next to his vehicle. The vehicle was, as a result, burnt beyond recognition, ' he said. Police were notified of the incident, and murder cases have been opened. Ledwaba said the deceased male was identified as a sergeant attached to Thohoyandou K9, while the deceased female was a Sergeant assigned to the Beit Bridge port of entry. Provincial Commissioner of Police Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe urged community members to resolve domestic disputes peacefully by seeking professional help rather than resorting to violence. 'The SAPS has in place Employee Health and Wellness programmes that are offered free of charge. We call upon members of SAPS to make use of these services that are at their disposal.'
