Members of the SAPS, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, and Crime Prevention Wardens acted on a tip-off about a man allegedly selling drugs in Bedfordview. The team conducted a targeted operation on Oxford Road, near a bushy area, where they discovered four informal structures (shacks). Upon searching the premises, officers found a male suspect in possession of suspected drugs, cash, and syringes. The suspect was arrested on the scene and detained at Bedfordview Police Station for further investigation on August 6. 'This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to clamp down on drug-related crime in the Bedfordview area,' Modiga added.

Two suspects arrested in Bedfordview for copper cable theft Two male suspects were apprehended by members of the Bedfordview SAPS, Gauteng traffic wardens, the Gauteng Traffic Infrastructure Unit (Eastern Corridor), and crime prevention wardens on July 28 while conducting patrols in the area. The suspects were stopped on the Van Buuren off-ramp from the N3 after they were spotted pushing a trolley loaded with copper cables. 'Further investigation confirmed that the cables had been removed from streetlights,' said Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Lillian Modiga. The stolen copper cables, measuring approximately 30m in length, are estimated to be worth R30 000. Both suspects have been charged with tampering with essential infrastructure. An additional charge relating to undocumented persons has also been filed.

In a statement issued on July 30, the department confirmed that eight of those dismissed have already been convicted and sentenced to prison terms ranging from four to 18 years. 'These results demonstrate the growing success of Home Affairs in dealing with criminal syndicates both inside and outside the department,' the statement read. 'I repeat my warning to anyone involved in corruption: the days of defrauding this department or committing acts of sexual harassment or abuse while relying on long, drawn-out disciplinary processes are over.' The minister also praised committed staff members who have supported and accelerated internal disciplinary processes. Conducted between July 9 and July 11, Operation Simama brought together the SAPS, the Flying Squad, EMPD, Gauteng Traffic Police, Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens, private security stakeholders, and the Edenvale CPF. According to Edenvale Police Station's communications officer, Warrant Officer Jacob Mashile, the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to reduce crime within the Edenvale policing precinct. High-visibility patrols, stop-and-search initiatives, compliance inspections, and intelligence-led interventions were all part of the coordinated effort. 'Residents are encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement, remain vigilant, and report suspicious activity,' said Pickett. The operation led to the detention of 20 undocumented foreign nationals, who were handed over to the Department of Home Affairs for further processing. In addition, two suspects were arrested on drug-related charges, and six motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
