‘Stranger Things' star Dacre Montgomery shares why he left Hollywood just as his stardom began
Stranger things have happened. Horror hunk Dacre Montgomery has shared why he stepped back from the limelight after finding stardom in Netflix's mega-hit show 'Stranger Things.' 'I think things have changed,' Montgomery said in an interview with The Australian. 'Traditional Hollywood stars existed because there was mystery… Social media has done away with that. That's a large part of why I dropped off the map for the last five years.' 4 Dacre Montgomery stepped back from Hollywood after acting in 'Stranger Things.' Courtesy Netflix The Australian-born actor, who rose to fame playing Billy Hargrove on the 12-time Emmy Award-winning series, wanted to navigate Tinseltown on his terms. 'I'm not trying to compete with anyone else, I'm living my truth — and hopefully being able to pay the rent while I'm doing it,' Montgomery said. Montgomery joined 'Stranger Things' during the show's second season and his character was killed off at the end of the third season, which aired in July 2019. 'I've given a piece of myself to every role I've played and that's largely why I've taken time off,' Dacre added. Montgomery has acted in nearly a dozen projects over the past decade. 4 Montgomery appeared in season 2 and 3 of Netflix's hit horror show. 'Lately, there's been a lot of personal reflection about what I want in my career,' Montgomery added to the Australian. 'I'm trying to gain a bit more control over where and what I'm working on.' The 30-year-old is focused on picking projects that could leave a lasting 'impact' with viewers, according to his recent interview with People Magazine. 4 Montgomery is planning to make his directorial debut with the film 'The Engagement Party.' Penske Media via Getty Images He hoped his new indie thriller, 'Went Up the Hill,' might accomplish his vision of creating work with a long-term presence with some audiences. 'The connective tissue between all the films I'm trying to do at the moment is films that have something really important to say, and 'Went Up the Hill' is divisive,' Montgomery told People. 'It's not a movie that everyone will connect to, but the people that do connect to it, I hope, will find catharsis.' Montgomery added, 'And that's why you make these movies, right? Because it only has to impact one person in the right way to work. And that's really what I'm really trying to mine in my career, is being a part of projects like that.' ‘New Heights' podcast with Taylor Swift returns — hours after ‘glitch'
Wednesday's highly anticipated 'New Heights' podcast featuring special guest star Taylor Swift resumed late Wednesday night after a glitch interrupted its live premiere on YouTube. More than 1 million people were watching the 14-time Grammy winner discuss the theme of her new album, 'The Life of a Showgirl' — a 12-track album that will be released on Oct. 3 — when the livestream went dark about one hour and 44 minutes in. The show returned at 12:37 a.m. ET on Aug. 14 after the 'New Heights' X account shared the link to the show and said 'WE ARE BACK!!!!' with a heart on fire emoji. Advertisement 3 Taylor Swift was discussing the meaning behind her new album, 'The Life of a Showgirl,' on the 'New Heights' podcast when it suddenly stopped due to a glitch on YouTube on August 13, 2025. YouTube/New Heights When the show went down, the podcast account posted on X, 'We hit a glitch but will be back shortly!!!' 'Shoutout all the 92%ers and swifties for actually helping us break the internet.' Advertisement Fever superstar Caitlin Clark recognized the power of the Swifties and pondered the possibility of a crash earlier in the day. 'Are we sure YouTube isn't going to crash tonight?' Clark wrote on X Wednesday afternoon. Prior to the glitch, Swift revealed the cover art of 'The Life of a Showgirl' before sharing the track list. Advertisement Boyfriend Travis Kelce said he knows a lot about the album, teasing it's 'upbeat' and differs from her most recent album, 'The Tortured Poets Department,' which dropped last April. 'Life is more upbeat,' Swift said while smiling at the three-time Super Bowl champ. 3 Taylor Swift and Travis were adorably flirty during her guest appearance on the 'New Heights' podcast was discussing the meaning behind her new album, 'The Life of a Showgirl,' on the 'New Heights' podcast on August 13, 2025. YouTube/New Heights Swift explained that the album cover for 'The Life of a Showgirl,' which features a glamorous shot of the singer floating in a bathtub clad in a bedazzled stage dress, represents 'the end of my night' when she exits the stage following a physically demanding performance, a la her three-hour Eras Tour set. Advertisement 'So when I'm on tour, I have the same day every single day. … And my day ends with me in a bathtub, not usually in a bedazzled dress,' she said. 'I wanted to sort of like glamorize all the different aspects of how that tour felt. And that's how that felt to like be at the end of the night when all this has gone down. You won't be able to get to bed till four in the morning after this. But you had to jump through 50 million hoops in this obstacle course that is your show. And you did it. You got two more in a row. But you did it tonight. 3 Taylor Swift's new album, 'The Life of a Showgirl,' will be released in October. taylorswift Instagram 'And the reason I wanted to have sort of like an offstage moment as the main album cover is because this album isn't really about what happened to me on stage. It's about what I was going through offstage. So I didn't want to have like the lights are bright, I'm on the stage as the main album cover. It's just this. This, to me, tells more of what the actual content, lyrically, of the album are.' Swift said she worked on the album in Europe last summer as she performed the international leg of the Eras Tour. The performances concluded in Canada in December.

Taylor Swift opens up about 1st date with Travis Kelce and his 'wild romantic gesture'
The duo appeared together on the "New Heights" podcast on Wednesday. 2:00 Taylor Swift's meet cute with Travis Kelce may have been something she manifested all along. During her podcast debut on the "New Heights" show on Wednesday, the singer opened up about what it was like meeting her boyfriend for the first time. "It was such a wild romantic gesture," she said about Kelce's attempt to give the Grammy winner his friendship bracelet. Many may recall from a previous episode that the Kansas City Chiefs star tried to give the singer a friendship bracelet with his number on it before they eventually met, but the plan fell through. Swift said the attempt "felt more like I was in an '80s John Hughes movie and he was like standing outside of my window with a boombox, just being like, 'I wanna date you!'" She continued, "I was like, if this guy isn't crazy, which is a big if, this is sort of what I have been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager." Kelce replied and said that Swift's music at the Eras Tour spoke to him and said, "I know exactly what she wants me to do." While the friendship bracelet scheme didn't turn out the way Travis Kelce had hoped for, Swift said it all worked out eventually. She also thanked "New Heights" for bringing her to Kelce. "This podcast has done a lot for me. I owe a lot to this podcast," she said. What sealed the deal for Taylor Swift? In the podcast, Swift said Travis Kelce "is a good kind of crazy." She said during their first initial conversations, the football star was attentive. "He's truly getting to know me in a way that's very natural, very pure, very normal. Also just the way that he could make me laugh so immediately about normal things," Swift said about their first date. She added, "He's just a vibe booster in everyone's life that he's in. He's like a human exclamation point." The "Lover" singer also told Travis Kelce that he is "non-judgmental about people and was not judgmental about the world that you're in." What embarrassing question did Taylor ask on her 1st date with Travis? Swift admitted that before meeting Travis Kelce, she didn't know a lot about football. During their first date, she asked Travis Kelce a question about the moment he played the Eagles during the Super Bowl. "I legitimately asked him what it was like when the Chiefs played the Eagles in the Super Bowl and he looked across the field, across the line of scrimmage and saw his brother standing on the other five feet in front of him on the field," she said. She continued, "He was like 'he didn't even look at me.' I now know what an insane question that was. He was like, 'actually I'm on the offense and my brother's on the offense, and I'm only on the field at the same time as the defense.'" "I thought everyone was on there at the same time," she added. Did Travis Kelce make Taylor Swift a football fan? Despite not knowing about football, Swift was still curious about the sport and Travis Kelce said that he is "forever thankful" to Swift for "diving into the football world wholeheartedly." "I fell in love with it," Swift replied. "I became obsessed with it. I became a person who was running through the halls of my house screaming, 'We drafted Xavier Worthy! And my friends are like, 'Who body snatched you? What do you mean?'" She added, "We're learning, I continue to learn."
