Knicks rumors: Insider reveals ‘focus' of coaching search, with Jason Kidd ‘wild card'
The New York Knicks are still trying to find a new head coach after firing Tom Thibodeau days after their Eastern Conference Finals defeat. They've done their due diligence on coaches who don't have a job, while also trying to steal coaches who are already with a team.

In the latest update, it looks like the Knicks are honing in on a few options, while keeping their eyes on one key target, according to Ian Begley of SNY.
'[Taylor] Jenkins and [Mike] Brown have been the focus…they're in that top tier of the options,' Begley said on The Putback. 'Kidd is more of a wild card because he is under contract with Dallas, but I think they're still kind of waiting to see there on a final decision. To me, that's a wildcard.'
Jenkins and Brown were both fired during the season by their respective teams this past season, but they have shown the ability to coach at a high level. Jenkins had the Grizzlies in playoff contention before he was fired, and though the Sacramento Kings had a down season, Brown has been key in their prior success. Those two are good candidates, and it wouldn't be a surprise if it came down to them as the final options.
Do the Knicks have a shot at Jason Kidd?
The Knicks still seem to be holding out hope on Kidd possibly being an option as their next coach, but the chances are slim. Their chances might be even smaller now after Kidd had dinner with the Dallas Mavericks' brass and Cooper Flagg, according to The Stein Line.

'Flagg had dinner Tuesday night at Dallas' famed Bob's Steak & Chop House with several Mavericks officials. General manager Nico Harrison and coach Jason Kidd essentially served as co-chairs of a welcoming committee that also included new team CEO Rick Welts and former Mavericks All-Star-turned-assistant GM Michael Finley. Flagg, who would not have been eligible for this draft if he was born a mere 11 days later, attended the meal solo,' The Stein Line wrote.
As of now, it seems like the Mavericks and Kidd are locked in, and it's going to take a lot for the Knicks to even try to get an interview with him. The best choice for the Knicks is to go after either Jenkins or Brown and see what happens from there.

Blockbuster three-team trade idea swaps Knicks, Bucks All-Stars originally appeared on The Sporting News The NBA is known for some of the most absurd trades that can come out of nowhere. Look no further than February's stunner that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, to the horror of Dallas Mavericks fans. It leaves you wondering when the next blockbuster could come, and what teams it could involve. All eyes are currently on the Milwaukee Bucks, where one of the best players in the world, Giannis Antetokounmpo, has been involved in trade rumors since they lost in the first round to the eventual Eastern Conference champion Indiana Pacers. While there is currently no indication that the Bucks would trade their franchise cornerstone, this is the NBA, where anything is possible. A recent trade proposal from Sports Illustrated would shake things up around the association, to say the least, and it involves the Bucks, New York Knicks, and the New Orleans Pelicans. Bucks Acquire: Zion Williamson, Kelly Olynyk, Pacome Dadiet, Tyler Kolek, and five first-round picks Pelicans Acquire: Karl Anthony Towns Knicks Acquire: Giannis Antetokounmpo The headliner of this mock trade is obviously the Greek Freak to the Knicks, where he instantly creates a championship favorite in New York. A duo of Jalen Brunson and Antetokounmpo would strike fear in the rest of the Eastern Conference and possibly even the reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder. The Pelicans can finally move on from their former No. 1 overall pick, Zion Williamson, who has flashed potential as a former All-Star but has been unable to consistently stay on the court throughout his career in New Orleans. Swapping him out for Towns, who has proven himself to be a star, makes them better and provides a building block to construct a playoff contender around. Milwaukee, meanwhile, which is still paying off its draft pick debts to the Portland Trail Blazers from the Damian Lillard trade, can get a kick start on its rebuild. Williamson is a wildcard, but if he can stay healthy, he has the potential to be a top-15 player in the league. Five first-round picks don't hurt either, and they can develop two youngsters with potential in former Knicks draft picks Dadiet and Kolek. If this deal were to become a reality, it would all hinge on Milwaukee's willingness to trade its former Finals MVP, and the Knicks, for certain, are holding out hope that they do.

Starting Wednesday, Oct. 22, the New York Knicks tip off their 2025-26 campaign, one that comes complete with lofty expectations. After an impressive showing last year — that included a shocking upset of the defending NBA champion Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semifinals — Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges, Josh Hart and OG Anunoby fell short against the scrappy yet clutch Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals. Although 2024-25 was the franchise's best showing since the '99-'00 season, they fired head coach Tom Thibodeau and brought in the veteran Brown to take his place. 'Nobody has any bigger expectations than I do,' the 55-year-old head coach said in his first press conference with the team. 'My expectations are high. This is the Knicks and Madison Square Garden. It's iconic. … I love and embrace the expectations that come along with it.' He'll have his mettle tested when his gifted squad faces off against Donovan Mitchell's Cleveland Cavaliers three times (including a Christmas Day matchup at the Garden), Jaylen Brown's Boston Celtics four times and their pesky foes, the now Tyrese Haliburton and Myles Turner-less Indiana Pacers four times as well.
