Warriors taking hard stance in latest Jonathan Kuminga negotiation news

Warriors taking hard stance in latest Jonathan Kuminga negotiation news originally appeared on The Sporting News The Golden State Warriors are drawing a line in the sand as they continue to suss out their negotiations with restricted free agent power forward Jonathan Kuminga this summer. Per Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, Golden State would be happy to get rid of the 22-year-old former lottery pick in a sign-and-trade — were the returning assets right. "But Golden State, sources say, is not open to amending its stance on the second year of the two-year, $45 million offer it has extended to the 22-year-old swingman," Fischer cautions. "The Warriors are insistent that Year 2 is a team option; Kuminga would naturally prefer a player option." MORE NEWS:Warriors coach Steve Kerr reveals only reason he still has his job Per Shams Charania and Anthony Slater of ESPN, Kuminga was tendered a contract in the vicinity of $90 million across four seasons, including a player option. The Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns are the two teams known to have been in the running for the 6-foot-8 pro's services. That said, the Warriors have had some big caveats in discussing potential Kuminga deals: namely, they don't want to ditch sharpshooter Buddy Hield or Kuminga's fellow 2021 lottery pick Moses Moody as part of a Kuminga sign-and-trade deal "Golden State values both players quite highly, sources say, while maintaining high expectations for both Hield and Moody to be consistent contributors who prove reliable in providing the necessary spacing to boost the Warriors' half-court offense in the postseason," Fischer notes. Across 47 healthy games last year, Kuminga averaged (10 starts), Kuminga averaged 15.3 points on .454/.305/.668/ shooting splits, 4.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 0.8 steals. for the 48-34 Warriors. He's an athletic finisher, but his inconsistency as a shooter and defender have made him a tough fit on a win-now Golden State roster. According to The Stein Line, Boston is looking to move the 26-year-old Simons -- though the front office is not rushing to get a deal done. The Celtics "will continue to invite trade discussion" for Simons, whom Boston acquired last month in exchange for two-time All-Star guard Jrue Holiday. Per The Stein Line, the Celtics will keep the window open through the 2025-26 trade deadline. The 24th overall pick in 2018, Simons spent the first seven years of his career with the Portland Trail Blazers, averaging 15 points on 43.1 percent shooting that featured a 38.1 percent clip from 3-point range. He scored 20.7 points per game over the past three seasons in Portland while hitting 583 3-pointers. Marc Stein reveals Lakers' 'preferred scenario' for LeBron James

It appears that LeBron James will be a member of the Los Angeles Lakers for the immediate future, despite the trade rumors that have surrounded him over the last few weeks. He decided to exercise the player option on his contract for this coming season on June 29, and on that day, his agent, Rich Paul, issued a statement that many interpreted as a prelude to a possible trade request. What he will do once the 2025-26 season ends, however, is anyone's best guess. He could leave the Lakers, or he could possibly continue to play for them. At the same time, there is speculation that the franchise wants to move on from him. NBA insider Marc Stein wrote on his substack "The Stein Line" that the Lakers' "preferred scenario" is to simply let James walk at the end of this coming season. 'The Lakers' widely presumed preferred scenario for their future is letting James' contract drop off their books after the 2025-26 season.' The superstar will make $52.6 million this coming season. According to an ESPN report, Los Angeles didn't offer him a contract extension this offseason. According to at least one other report, the Lakers are just about done with James and are already angling to land another superstar to pair with Luka Doncic within the next couple of years.

Knicks rumors: Insider reveals ‘focus' of coaching search, with Jason Kidd ‘wild card'

The post Knicks rumors: Insider reveals 'focus' of coaching search, with Jason Kidd 'wild card' appeared first on ClutchPoints. The New York Knicks are still trying to find a new head coach after firing Tom Thibodeau days after their Eastern Conference Finals defeat. They've done their due diligence on coaches who don't have a job, while also trying to steal coaches who are already with a team. Advertisement In the latest update, it looks like the Knicks are honing in on a few options, while keeping their eyes on one key target, according to Ian Begley of SNY. '[Taylor] Jenkins and [Mike] Brown have been the focus…they're in that top tier of the options,' Begley said on The Putback. 'Kidd is more of a wild card because he is under contract with Dallas, but I think they're still kind of waiting to see there on a final decision. To me, that's a wildcard.' Jenkins and Brown were both fired during the season by their respective teams this past season, but they have shown the ability to coach at a high level. Jenkins had the Grizzlies in playoff contention before he was fired, and though the Sacramento Kings had a down season, Brown has been key in their prior success. Those two are good candidates, and it wouldn't be a surprise if it came down to them as the final options. Do the Knicks have a shot at Jason Kidd? The Knicks still seem to be holding out hope on Kidd possibly being an option as their next coach, but the chances are slim. Their chances might be even smaller now after Kidd had dinner with the Dallas Mavericks' brass and Cooper Flagg, according to The Stein Line. Advertisement 'Flagg had dinner Tuesday night at Dallas' famed Bob's Steak & Chop House with several Mavericks officials. General manager Nico Harrison and coach Jason Kidd essentially served as co-chairs of a welcoming committee that also included new team CEO Rick Welts and former Mavericks All-Star-turned-assistant GM Michael Finley. Flagg, who would not have been eligible for this draft if he was born a mere 11 days later, attended the meal solo,' The Stein Line wrote. As of now, it seems like the Mavericks and Kidd are locked in, and it's going to take a lot for the Knicks to even try to get an interview with him. The best choice for the Knicks is to go after either Jenkins or Brown and see what happens from there. NBA rumors: Spurs linked to Kristaps Porzingis trade, but there's a catch

The post NBA rumors: Spurs linked to Kristaps Porzingis trade, but there's a catch appeared first on ClutchPoints. With rumors swirling around Boston Celtics star Kristaps Porzingis after the news broke that Jrue Holiday will be traded to the Portland Trail Blazers, there appears to be a roster reconstruction happening with the team. While people have been speculating where Porzingis ends up if the Celtics move on, one team that has been connected to the big man in the latest reports is the San Antonio Spurs. Advertisement According to Jake Fischer in 'The Stein Line,' San Antonio is a team with an interest in trading for Porzingis, which no doubt would be an interesting move to pair the seven-foot-two player alongside seven-foot-five Victor Wembanyama. However, Fischer expressed that it could be an 'unlikely destination,' though the team is looking for big men, whether it be via a trade or the draft. 'The Spurs, sources say, have held some exploratory talks about trading for the 7-foot-2 center,' Fischer wrote. 'That would certainly be a fascinating outcome for Porziņģis if he were to land with the on-the-rise Spurs alongside the 7-foot-5 Victor Wembanyama. As Monday night dribbled into Tuesday morning, I was cautioned that San Antonio, in the end, should probably be classified as an unlikely destination for Porziņģis.' 'There has, however, been tangible noise about the Spurs looking at various big men with the No. 14 overall pick in Wednesday's draft … provided that they keep that pick,' Fischer continued. 'There have even been rumbles that the Spurs hold interest in moving up in the lottery for a second turn, after the widely expected selection of Dylan Harper at No. 2 overall, to target size.' Another team linked to Celtics' Kristaps Porzingis David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports As the Celtics star will be involved in trade rumors in the foreseeable future, it does seem that the Spurs could be an option, as Fischer states again, they are looking for more depth in the frontcourt, along with Wembanyama. Advertisement 'It's noteworthy, no matter what the Spurs ultimately do, that they seem to be casting such a wide net to try to get larger in the frontcourt in support of Wembanyama,' Fischer wrote. Another team that Fischer mentioned as being connected to Porzingis in the past is the Phoenix Suns, who just made headlines in trading Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets, as they are definitely in the market for a center. 'I've also heard that Phoenix has done some background work on Kristaps Porziņģis with Boston known to be exploring its trade options up and down the roster,' Fischer wrote. At any rate, Porzingis averaged 19.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 48.3 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from beyond the arc.
