Fremantle's horror night summed up by Josh Treacy's ‘disaster' moment in loss to Brisbane

Fremantle's horror night summed up by Josh Treacy's ‘disaster' moment in loss to Brisbane

Fremantle big man Josh Treacy summed up his side's performance with a nightmare moment in Friday night's loss to Brisbane.
In a high-stakes clash, the reigning premiers flexed their muscle with a brilliant victory as the shellshocked Dockers had no answers.
The Lions kicked the only three goals of the first term and then put the foot down with a dominant third quarter to silence the Optus Stadium crowd.
Treacy had earlier kicked two goals, but threw away a certain third with a monumental blunder.
After taking a strong mark at the top of the goalsquare, Treacy turned around and played on with the goals at his mercy.
But he took a fraction too long to get the kick away and that gave veteran Lion Ryan Lester just enough time to disrupt the attempt.
'Oh no! A calamity, a disaster,' commentator Anthony Hudson said.
Garry Lyon added: 'It's a Nick Riewoldt moment,' in reference to the famous incident from the 2010 grand final replay.
The Dockers were trailing by 32 points at the time and needed a spark in the shadows of three-quarter time.
Rising Star contender Murphy Reid did provide that with a long-range goal, but the Lions had the immediate reply through Cam Rayner.
Hugh McCluggage nailed the first of the final term as the Lions cruised towards the crucial victory.

‘Diabolical': Horrible news for Brisbane Lions star

Don't miss out on the headlines from AFL. Followed categories will be added to My News. Brisbane's Jarrod Berry has suffered a 'diabolical' injury in a sad finish to the club's massive win over the Dockers on Friday night. The Lions secured a spot in the finals with a commanding 57-point win at Optus Stadium, but it has come at a cost with key midfielder Berry's return from a shoulder injury now a mystery. FOX FOOTY, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every match of every round in the 2025 Toyota AFL Premiership Season LIVE in 4K, with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? Join now and get your first month for just $1. Berry suffered a dislocated shoulder injury when he was shoved in the back by Andrew Brayshaw in the final quarter. The 27-year-old was clearly not expecting contact as a loose ball bounced towards him before Brayshaw cannoned into his back. You can watch the incident in the video player above. That impact was enough to force Berry's left upper arm bone to be dislodged from its shoulder socket. He was in obvious pain as he was helped from the field by medical officials with his shoulder looking all messed up. He was immediately subbed out of the game. Leading footy reporter Jon Ralph on Fox Footy called it 'diabolical for Jarrod Berry'. However, the Code Sports journalist reported on X on Saturday the club is hopeful Berry will be fit in time for the club's first game of the 2025 Finals Series. 'The Lions are fairly hopeful Berry will miss round 24 then be ready to play in a first final,' he posted. 'He is tough as nails. Scans tomorrow but he is prepared to play with the dislocation.' Berry has a history of multiple shoulder injuries. Ralph initially said on Fox Footy the injury looked 'diabolical'. 'So that is a horrible, horrible injury,' he said. 'He will know that the road ahead is very full of pitfalls.' Jarrod Berry of the Lions is assisted to the medical room. Photo by. Lions coach Chris Fagan said the injury 'didn't look good' during his post-match press conference. 'His other shoulder is the one he's had operated on,' Fagan said after the game. 'So now the other one's popped out. I don't know the full extent. Obviously, there'll be scans and stuff like that. It didn't look good. 'But sometimes they can find a way to strap them up and get them through the season and have an operation at the end of the year. 'It's not ideal. He's been one of our better players this year, very reliable leader. So fingers crossed for him.' The AFL has not announced its match review verdict from Friday night's matches but it is possible Brayshaw may be cited for the reckless contact. The win means the Lions have qualified for seven consecutive finals series. Originally published as 'Diabolical': Horrible news for Brisbane Lions star

Fremantle Dockers fans unleash emotions after disappointing loss to Brisbane Lions

A night's sleep has done little to temper the disappointment and frustration of Fremantle fans after their Friday night flop against reigning premiers Brisbane. With the top four and a double chance in sight, the Dockers had one of their biggest chances in recent history to build a strong platform for a deep September run. However, even without dual Brownlow medallist Lachie Neale, the Lions showed they were a class above in front of more than 50,000 Fremantle fans at Optus Stadium, running over a wayward Dockers by 57 points. It means the Dockers could be left with a one-game shootout to even make the finals against the Western Bulldogs next weekend, unless last-placed West Coast produce a miracle victory over the Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium on Sunday. The purple army didn't hold back in the wake of the loss to the Lions, with emotions pouring out after Fremantle kicked eight behinds to start the game. Responding to The West Australian's back page describing the Dockers' performance as 'Stage Fright', Chris Della labelled the headline more accurate than the team. 'The heading is accurate, the opposite to their goal kicking!!! Fragile under pressure,' he wrote. David Clancy added: 'Not sure about Flagmantle, how about dismantled?' Some fans even took aim at coach Justin Longmuir and his game plan, saying he should be sacked if they miss finals again. 'New coach with intensity and firm words is required. Auskick players move the ball quicker than Freo! No manning up, no sharking off the talls, no imagination,' Mark Killmeir wrote. Some purple army members were more drastic in their takes on Fremantle's X posts. 'Losing two first picks for Bolton = worst ever,' Danco Jovanoski wrote. Geoff Brian added: 'I have never been more disappointed in a Fremantle performance,' while Callum Hinton labelled the Dockers a 'bunch of pretenders' and said he was hoping for an Eagles upset. Michael Soh was feeling the hurt, posting: 'My late father was a passionate Freo fan like me, and he would be turning in his grave after Freo's disgusting horror show tonight.' The word 'fraud' was also bandied around. Many fans were disappointed for club champion Nat Fyfe, who could have played his final home match after announcing he would retire at the end of the season. 'If you can't do it for Fyfe or for yourselves or your fans, what are y'all even doing?,' an account under the name churro said. Tans Taafl added: 'Very disappointing. You couldn't even get up for Nat. You didn't even need to win, just turn up. I'll always be a Docker, but I hate that I am so invested in this club. I'll keep on believing, but this performance speaks volumes. I'm really disappointed tbh, not even angry.'
