Bargaining for nostalgia as Toy Scout in East Haven

Yahoo08-05-2025
EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Here's a chance to cash in on the past.
The 'Toy Scout Road Show' is in town at the Home2 Suites by Hilton in East Haven, looking to buy vintage toys.
Gov. Lamont, Mindy Kaling attend Great Wolf Lodge grand opening at Foxwoods
Let the bargaining begin. What you think is junk in old toys could turn out to be a treasure.
'We're in the area buying vintage toys from the 1980s and older, Star Wars. G.I. Joes, Transformers,' Toy Scout Road Show manager Jeff Schriefer said.
Comic books are also in demand, along with the ever-popular Hot Wheels cars, which are leaving the competition in the dust.
'We bought a Hot Wheels Redline Collection this morning for $16,000,' Schriefer said. 'It included some other items of course too, but it was a fantastic collection.'
With that kind of payout, the appraisal line is growing. People are here with all kinds of items, from a vintage car to a wooden dog on the hunt.
Not every item is up for grabs, and not everyone fins the bargaining process a lot of fun.
But some customers don't mind the back and forth, especially when items representing a galaxy far, far away.
It's a business of fun and games that sometimes pays big dividends, it just depends on what you're willing to part with.
Toy Scout is hosting another event at the Hampton Inn & Suites Hartford on Friday and Saturday.
Friday May 9 10 a.m. -5:30 p.m.
Saturday May 10 9 a.m.- 3 p.m.

George Lucas Reminded Ron Howard Ahead of ‘Solo' That ‘Star Wars' Is for 12-Year-Olds

Star Wars fans have become accustomed to cinematic reshufflings in the years since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker. But even before the sequel trilogy concluded, there were hints that Lucasfilm's confident plans were subject to shake-ups. There were the notorious reshoots attached to 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but even more dramatically, there was the director switcheroo that happened with 2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story. In a new interview, Ron Howard talked about being hired as a replacement on the film. Speaking to Vulture in a piece that examines his long career, he said it all happened sort of casually. Howard didn't have a next project set up yet; in fact, he was on vacation when Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy invited him 'to breakfast' with Solo co-writer Jonathan Kasdan and co-producer Allison Shearmur. There was a motive to this meal, he recalled. 'They basically said, 'We've reached a creative impasse with [Phil] Lord and [Christopher] Miller. Would you ever consider coming in?' The next step, Howard said, involved watching some of the edited footage from Solo. 'I saw what was bothering them. There was a studio that liked the script the way it was and wanted a Star Wars movie, but there was a disconnect early on tonally, and they weren't convinced that what Phil and Chris were doing was working effectively,' Howard said. 'I couldn't judge that because I didn't see enough of it to know. But they were sure.' When Howard agreed to come aboard, he said, 'Phil and Chris were incredibly gracious throughout that process. They were just seeing two different movies. So I came in, I had a blast, but there's nothing personal about that film whatsoever. It's still just a shame. I can't wait for Phil and Chris's next movie.' Howard also revealed he chatted with his pal George Lucas while he was still mulling over the gig and got some telling advice: 'He wasn't active on the films, but he said, 'Just don't forget—it's for 12-year-old boys.' Head to Vulture to read the full interview, including a section where Howard said he 'wouldn't do a slasher movie' but is open to bringing more supernatural elements into his filmography, preferably in the form of a 'contemporary sci-fi fantasy, like Cocoon or Her or The Shape of Water.' Read the Script to One of the Best Episodes of ‘Andor' and Experience Greatness

One of the few rare issues with Andor being as good as it is is that we're not getting more of it, in any format—but one that especially stings is that we came so close to being able to look at the scripts behind the smash-hit Star Wars series. We were on the verge of greatness, as a certain Imperial director would've put it, in 2023 when Tony Gilroy and Lucasfilm announced that season one's scripts would be published online, only for them to never arrive. Gilroy gave us an incredibly valid reason earlier this year—to avoid the scripts being fed into generative AI models—dashing our hopes that we'd ever similarly see the scripts for the then-upcoming season 2 released either. But at least on that front, there's a tiny glimmer of hope. As part of its For Your Consideration campaign effort in the upcoming TV awards season (which, of course, includes Andor and its 14 Emmy nominations), Disney's official FYC website has been updated to include a post-final production script for Andor season 2 episode 9, 'Welcome to the Rebellion', by Dan Gilroy. The episode, itself nominated in the Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series category at next month's 77th Emmys, climaxes the third act of Andor season 2, and sees Cassian assist Mon Mothma's escape from Coruscant after she delivers a damning speech in the Imperial Senate over Palpatine's role in the Ghorman Massacre. Even though we've had plenty of opportunity to watch and revisit the episode itself, reading the script offers some fascinating insight into the creative process behind Andor, and the chance to see what emotive beats and intent came from Gilroy's writing, and what flourished or was tweaked naturally through the cast's performance and interpretation of it. It's also just a remarkable reading experience too, one that captures the tension that would ultimately sizzle on screen, with a flow and pacing that, even if you're not used to reading a shooting script, glides by with a keen slickness. It's not surprising that, even among an extremely strong crop of scripts to pick from in season 2, this is the one that earned Andor the nomination. But as good as it is, it now makes Lucasfilm and Gilroy's decision to stop the release of the rest of the Andor scripts all the more heartbreaking. It would be absolutely incredible that now the show is complete to be able to either freely peruse or even buy a coffee table book collecting the 24 scripts in a single place and re-experience the journey from a perspective that we rarely get for Star Wars material. Just another thing to blame generative AI for, for now at least. You can read the full script to 'Welcome to the Rebellion' here. Want more io9 news?
