The party policy allows for 'one man one post,' so Shelar will be replaced. Sources said that with BMC elections approaching, the Mumbai president will most probably be a Marathi, and chances of a Maratha leading in the city are more likely since CM Devendra Fadnavis belongs to the Brahmin community. Also, BJP in the last BMC general body had the highest number of corporators—45—in the Andheri-Dahisar belt.
"It is no surprise those in the fray are all from this belt," party sources said.BJP recently completed its membership drive and will soon be electing the state president and later the national president. For this, leaders (presidents) at different levels of the party need to be appointed. With SC directing the state election commission to conduct local body elections, BMC elections are likely to be held in Oct or Nov, said party sources, adding the party structure needs to be in place quickly. At the city unit's core committee meet on Wednesday, sources said it was decided to increase the number of mandals in each assembly constituency from one to three. This will take the number of mandals from 36 to 108. The number of mandal presidents will increase proportionately. Besides, the party has one district president for each of the Lok Sabha constituencies; there are six LS constituencies in Mumbai. There will be one president for each electoral civic ward; BMC has 227 electoral wards.Sources said the party has decided to give more representation to younger workers. Thus, those appointed at the ward level will be less than 40 years old, at the mandal level less than 45, and at the district level less than 60 years old.

Priyanka Gandhi Leads Kerala Nuns' Arrest Protest, Shashi Tharoor Missing
New Delhi: As Kerala MPs led by Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra protested in Parliament over the arrest of two nuns in Chhattisgarh on charges of human trafficking and forced religious conversion, senior party leader Shashi Tharoor was conspicuously absent. Interestingly, Mr Tharoor was part of a protest on the same issue yesterday, but was not seen today. The absence sparked a buzz as it played out against the backdrop of Mr Tharoor's strained ties with the Congress leadership over his public remarks after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. The Thiruvananthapuram MP was part of a protest by Kerala Congress MPs in the Parliament complex yesterday. Holding a placard that read, "India for all, proud to be one", Mr Tharoor told the media yesterday, "The nuns are innocent, they must be released. There should not be mob rule in the country. This is the government's responsibility." At the protest today, Ms Gandhi Vadra said the nuns were accused of things they were not doing. "They were manhandled and then taken away by the Chhattisgarh police. We are protesting against these kinds of attacks on minorities," she told the media. Shashi Tharoor has been making headlines for the past several months for his strained ties with the Congress leadership. An outstanding public speaker, the former diplomat was not on the Congress's list of speakers for the Operation Sindoor debate -- an omission that provided political ammunition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others in the BJP. Sources in the Congress have said that the party had approached Mr Tharoor to speak during the debate, but he refused to toe the party line and said he would not contradict himself "for the sake of party messaging". Mr Tharoor has been on the receiving end of barbs from his party colleagues over his praise of the BJP government's response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Mr Tharoor recently said his "first loyalty" lies with the nation. "Parties are a means of making the nation better. So to my mind, whichever party you belong to, the objective of that party is to create a better India in its own way," he said. The Congress, determined to corner the government on the sudden announcement of the ceasefire by US President Donald Trump and the intelligence failure that led to the Pahalgam attack, did not approve of Mr Tharoor's remarks. Why Were Nuns Arrested Two Kerala-based catholic nuns were arrested at Chhattisgarh's Durg station last week. Bajrang Dal supporters alleged that they were trafficking three minor tribal girls after promising them jobs and education. They have been charged with human trafficking under Section 143 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and forced conversion under the Chhattisgarh Freedom of Religion Act. The incident has sparked a massive row, with Opposition parties led by the Congress accusing the BJP government in Chhattisgarh of targeting minorities. Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, has said religious freedom is a constitutional right. "We demand their immediate release and accountability for this injustice," he said. Christian organisations have also voiced their protest. In fact, the Kerala BJP has stressed that the nuns were not involved in any human trafficking or forced conversion attempts. BJP Kerala president Rajeev Chandrasekhar has said he would make all possible attempts to release the nuns from jail and bring them back home safe. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has defended the arrests, saying he is concerned about the safety of "our daughters of Bastar". He has accused the Congress and other Opposition parties of politicising the issue.

BRS plans public meeting in Karimnagar for cause of BCs
HYDERABAD: The Opposition BRS announced that it will hold a public meeting in Karimnagar on August 8 demanding 42% reservations for the Backward Communities (BCs). Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, former minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said: 'The state government said it would go to Delhi on August 5, 6 and 7 to press for enhanced BC reservations. But the state government's caste survey was unscientific. The government hastily passed the BC quota Bills and then introduced an ordinance. It held celebrations as if something significant was achieved through the ordinance.' 'After meeting Rahul Gandhi in Delhi, they acted as if they had won a Nobel Prize. They promised Rs 20,000 crore annually in the Budget for BCs but failed to implement it. Now, they were going to enact political dramas in Delhi,' he added. The legislator from Sanathnagar demanded that the government conduct local body polls only after providing 42% reservations to BCs. He said that BRS would also meet President Droupadi Murmu in Delhi on BC reservations. He also demanded that three ministerial berths and 50 per cent corporation chairpersons posts be given to BCs. Meanwhile, MLC S Madhusudhana Chary said that the BRS would lead an all-party delegation to Delhi. Former minister Gangula Kamalakar alleged that Congress betrayed the BCs. Former minister V Srinivas Goud said that BJP too was deceiving BCs. 'Even with a BC occupying the prime minister's chair, there is no BC ministry at the Centre,' he said and recalled that former Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa led an all-party delegation to Delhi on four occasions on BC reservations.
