Rodgers in camp and committed to Steelers

PITTSBURGH (Black & Gold Nation) — They say good things come to those who wait for the Pittsburgh Steelers that good thing is a 41 year old, four time MVP from Southern California.
'There's a few iconic franchises in the NFL. I played for one of them for 18 years. This is another one,' Rodgers said following his first practice with the Steelers Tuesday.
Wearing that number eight jersey he had in New York, Rodgers was in Pittsburgh for team minicamp Tuesday, instantly elevating the Steelers offense with one flick of the wrist.
Some of the most notable accomplishments and moments of Aaron Rodgers' career so far
Sporting a brand new wedding ring, Rodgers reiterated his late decision to join the team was based on personal, family reasons and said when it boiled down to it, he didn't want to join the team until he was ready to be committed physically and mentally.
Rodgers added that as the offseason moved on it became apparent, it was play for Pittsburgh or retire. He said his familiarity with the team's coaches, scheme made committing to Mike Tomlin an easy choice.
'The way that the conversations went between him and I, between whatever was in March or April and, you know, the last Sunday when I called him was some of the coolest conversation I've had in the game, definitely with the head coach,' said Rodgers. 'So he's a big reason I'm here. I believe in him and excited to play for him.'
'We're excited about him being here,' added Tomlin. 'He's excited about being here, but we'll make no bold predictions. We're just going to roll our sleeves up and go to work and let their efforts do the talking.'
Rodgers spent most of Tuesday just working on individual drills, a sponge trying to learn the offence. Asked about whether he was concerned that Rodgers wasn't doing full team reps Tomlin said he wasn't concerned with a 20 year veterans' reps in June.

Eagles named the favorites to acquire T.J. Watt if the Steelers move on

Eagles named the favorites to acquire T.J. Watt if the Steelers move on The Steelers Wire names the Eagles as the favorites to land T.J. Watt if Pittsburgh does the unthinkable and trades the All-Pro pass rusher Every time an episode of Green Light With Chris Long drops, it's hard to think about the show's namesake without remembering one of his highlight-reel moments in a Philadelphia Eagles jersey. It was the NFC Championship Game vs. the Minnesota Vikings. A four-man rush led to a collapsed pocket and a pick-six. Chris got his hands on Case Keenum, forcing the off-hand into Keenum's chest. As a result, Case couldn't get enough on the throw, and Patrick Robinson was the beneficiary. Long may not be the player that T.J. Watt is (no disrespect is intended), but they're cut from the same cloth. What if T.J. were an Eagle? Might he, in Vic Fangio's defense, be the author of more plays like Long's disruption? There's just one problem. T.J. and the Pittsburgh Steelers seem like a match made in Heaven. Well, at least they did up until their stalled conversations about Watt's deserved extension. The Eagles are named among five possible landing spots for T.J. Watt if the Steelers do the unthinkable and move on This isn't your grandfather's NFL. He wouldn't recognize most of the teams. The Cleveland Browns are still a mess, but the Detroit Lions are a legitimate contender. The Steelers, typically one of pro football's elite franchises, can't win playoff games or keep any of their players happy. Just in case you missed the announcement, T.J. hasn't reported to mandatory minicamp. It doesn't look like he will be going unless there's a new deal waiting for him when he gets there. Now, common sense and reason lend themselves to believing cooler heads will prevail. Still, just in case they don't, the speculation has already started about where he might wind up. Steelers Wire recently named Philly as one of five realistic landing spots. Andrew Vasquez explains: "This one would sting—but it would make a lot of sense if the Steelers aren't competitive around the 2025 trade deadline. The Eagles have a young, unproven edge rush duo and could see Watt as a potential rental for another Super Bowl run. Could Philadelphia offer a king's ransom for a potential two-peat, spearheaded by Watt's presence on defense?" Typically, when we hear these tales of disgruntled players and the theories about their 'most likely destinations, the Eagles are usually mentioned. Smoke rarely leads to any fires, and it probably won't do so here. This is T.J. Watt, though. This one was hard to ignore. He still has one year remaining on his current deal. That means, unless Pittsburgh trades him, he probably isn't going anywhere, and even if the Steelers entertained the idea, they'd probably ask for a king's ransom. Philadelphia has too many of its homegrown players who will soon need new deals. Three of which are Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Nolan Smith. That being said, we can end the T.J. Watt fantasy and move along to more pressing matters.

Nick Wright Sounds Off on Shocking Jalen Hurts Ranking

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Since taking over as the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, Jalen Hurts has emerged as one of the best players at the position. Fresh off leading the franchise to just its second Super Bowl victory, one NFL analyst was left stunned to see where he was ranked among his peers. Every year, former NFL quarterback Chris Simms puts together a ranking of the top QBs in the league. In his latest installment, Hurts finds himself on the back end of the top ten. The reigning Super Bowl MVP was slotted in at No. 10 behind players such as Baker Mayfield, Justin Herbert, and C.J. Stroud. "He brings a skillset to [the Eagles] offense that makes them almost indefensible with all the talent they have," Simms said. Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts, 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels, and Matthew Stafford headline first batch of top ten rankings of @CSimmsQB's Quarterback Countdown, now on Chris Simms Unbuttoned and Pro Football Talk More: — NBC Sports PR (@NBCSportsPR) June 9, 2025 As expected, Simms latest QB rankings sparked debates among numerous fans and analysts. Among those to chime in with their thoughts was Nick Wright. While on FS1's First Things First, he sounded off on Simms for having Hurts so low on his latest list. "Chris Simms, if you happen to run in to mamma Hurts she's going to give you a piece of her mind," Wright said. "Having Jalen Hurts behind Justin Herbert, it's really one of things where it tells me a lot about the evaluator...I just don't know how you can say he's better than Jalen Hurts." Chris Simms ranks Jalen Hurts #10 in his 2025 QB rankings. @getnickwright reacts: 'I just don't know how you can say [Justin Herbert] is better than Jalen Hurts. That one ranking seems to me to be indefensible other than, 'eh, I just know.'' — First Things First (@FTFonFS1) June 10, 2025 On paper, Herbert has the flashier numbers. However, the proper context is needed. Hurts' passing numbers took a slight dip, but Saquon Barkley had a lot to do with that. Seeing that he put together a historic season on the ground, the Eagles had a more run-heavy attack. Nonetheless, Hurts still threw for over 2,900 yards and 18 touchdowns to just five interceptions. That's not even counting his own impact on the ground, rushing for 630 yards and 14 touchdowns. Jalen Hurts #1 of the Philadelphia Eagles looks to the sideline during Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs at Caesars Superdome on February 9, 2025. Jalen Hurts #1 of the Philadelphia Eagles looks to the sideline during Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs at Caesars Superdome on February 9, passing numbers look better, throwing for 3,870 yards and 23 touchdowns. That said, when combining scores in the air and on the ground, Hurts found the end zone more. It's also worth noting that Hurts leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl should have him at least a few spots higher on Simms' list. Wright clearly disagrees with Hurts being placed so low, but the Eagles star likely isn't fazed by it. Instead, it's something he'll use as a motivation as he looks to lead Philadelphia on another title run. Between his regular season and playoff success, along with his dynamic skill set, it's hard to argue that there are nine QBs better than Hurts right now.

Steelers, Aaron Rodgers Land Jarring Projection

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Following the Pittsburgh Steelers' move to finally sign Aaron Rodgers, the expectations for the team have gone through the roof. They are expected to be a top-tier contender in the AFC with the future Hall of Fame quarterback leading the way. Making this kind of a move is about one thing. It's about pursuing a Super Bowl. Anything short of a deep playoff run would be a massive disappointment for the Steelers. Despite the high expectations for the team, Pittsburgh has received a new jarring prediction that is far from what they're hoping to get out of the 2025 season. Photo byPro Football Network analyst Jacob Infante has revealed his playoff predictions for the upcoming campaign. When it comes to the Steelers, they did not make the playoffs in his projections. Read more: Steelers Linked to Elite New Weapon for Aaron Rodgers Coming in at No. 1 in the AFC were the Buffalo Bills. After the Bills, the Kansas City Chiefs were No. 2, the Baltimore Ravens were No. 3, the Houston Texans were No. 4, the Denver Broncos were No. 5, the Los Angeles Chargers were No. 6, and the Cincinnati Bengals were No. 7. Not even making the playoffs would be brutal for Pittsburgh. That kind of failure could also cause major changes throughout the Steelers' organization. Heading into the 2025 season, head coach Mike Tomlin has been mentioned as a potential hot seat candidate. He has had a lot of regular season success, but Pittsburgh has not won a Super Bowl since the 2008 season. Should the Steelers not make the playoffs, there is a very real chance that they could consider parting ways with Tomlin to bring in a new voice. Pittsburgh still has time to continue improving the roster around Rodgers. The team could use another wide receiver on the roster alongside DK Metcalf. Keenan Allen has been suggested as a possible name to watch, as have both Amari Cooper and Chris Olave. This is a season to go all-in on competing for a championship. It will be interesting to see what the upcoming season has in store. Infante's prediction of missing the playoffs would be a massive disappointment and would force some difficult decisions to be made.
