Neo4j launches serverless graph analytics platform for all users
The new offering reportedly enables a broader pool of users to conduct graph analytics, traditionally a specialist discipline, by eliminating the need for custom queries, ETL pipelines, or detailed knowledge of graph technologies. It supports integration with a wide range of database and cloud data warehouse providers including Oracle, Microsoft SQL, Databricks, Snowflake, Google BigQuery, and Microsoft OneLake, alongside compatibility with all major cloud environments.
Graph analytics is engineered to assist with decision-making in artificial intelligence (AI) applications by identifying patterns and connections in complex datasets. According to Neo4j, the technique delivers more accurate insights than conventional analytics, yet has often been perceived as accessible only to data scientists and advanced analytics practitioners.
Neo4j Aura Graph Analytics introduces more than 65 pre-built graph algorithms prepared for users who may not have prior experience with the Cypher query language or similar technologies. The company states that the product can be deployed and scaled without infrastructure setup, and is available on a pay-as-you-use model, allowing organisations to control costs according to their compute and storage requirements.
Neo4j refers to customer-reported benefits from early adopters, including up to 80% improvements in model accuracy and a doubling of insight efficacy compared to traditional analytics approaches.
The company attributes this to the use of graph embeddings that translate graph structures into features ready for machine learning workflows, providing enhanced ability to detect subtle relationships and patterns in data.
Various use cases are cited for the technology, including anti-money laundering, fraud detection, disease contact tracing, supply chain management, customer 360 initiatives, recommendation engines, and social network analysis. Neo4j notes that the system supports highly parallelised in-memory processing, enabling analytics to be conducted twice as fast as some open-source alternatives, and allows for unlimited concurrent sessions by different organisational users.
The platform is accessible directly via Python, and users can exploit familiar tools such as Pandas dataframes to project, analyse, and visualise enterprise data without additional ETL requirements. Neo4j reports a 75% reduction in required coding as the solution removes the need to manually build models for each new analysis. The serverless model absolves the organisation of infrastructure administration, with users only paying for resources used.
Support for other widely-used programming languages is planned for later in the year, with a specific native integration for Snowflake expected to become generally available by the third quarter of the financial year. Neo4j's expansion of its analytical capabilities with serverless deployments is a response to increased demand for AI-ready and analytical solutions, according to the company.
Neo4j has reported a series of milestones, including an upgrade to its Aura cloud management system with AI features in September 2024, its recognition as a Visionary in the 2024 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Cloud Database Management Systems for the second straight year, and designation as a Strong Performer in the Forrester Wave: Vector Databases, Q3 2024. In November 2024, Neo4j announced that it had doubled its annual recurring revenue over three years, reaching a valuation above USD $2 billion, and noted usage by a significant proportion of Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies.
The role of graph analytics in enterprise data management was also noted in industry research, with Gartner indicating: "Data captured in any enterprise is sparse and replete with gaps, making it difficult to find and link useful data. Data and analytics leaders should use graph analytics as a preferred technology in specific use cases to fill data gaps and blend data assets even when they have diverse data quality."
Devin Pratt, Research Director for Data Management at IDC, said: "Neo4j's new serverless graph analytics solution, developed with ease-of-use and accessibility in mind, is an exciting move that will allow enterprises to scale analytics across any data source or cloud platform, transforming their data into a wealth of actionable knowledge, and providing deeper insights for improved organizational decision-making."
Sudhir Hasbe, Chief Product Officer at Neo4j, commented: "Our vision with Aura Graph Analytics is simple: make it easy for any user to make better business decisions faster. By removing hurdles like complex queries, ETL and costly infrastructure set-up, organizations can tap into the full power of graph analytics without needing to be graph experts. The result: better decisions on any enterprise data source, built on a deeper understanding of how everything connects."
Neo4j reported customer benchmark data showing Neo4j Aura Graph Analytics delivers a 50–80% increase in accuracy for data science and machine learning models versus non-graph analytics, with this improvement leading to twice the efficacy in overall insights. The solution is available now under a pay-as-you-use plan and will continue to expand its integrations and supported languages in the coming year.

Azul launches Managed Services Programme for Java insights
Azul has introduced a Managed Services Provider Programme for its Azul Intelligence Cloud, enabling managed service providers to integrate Java software asset management, vulnerability detection and code inventory capabilities into their service offerings. The new programme allows partners to utilise sublicensing and white-label rights for Azul Intelligence Cloud's Software-as-a-Service tools - JVM Inventory, Azul Vulnerability Detection, and Code Inventory. Through these tools, MSPs can offer detailed analytics and insights on their customers' Java environments, including active Java Virtual Machines from Oracle, Azul, and any OpenJDK distribution. Partners will be equipped to deliver reports and analyses that provide customers with greater visibility into Oracle Java license management, application security vulnerabilities and opportunities to streamline code maintenance. The solution is designed to help organisations reduce non-compliant licensing risks and improve their security posture without needing to deploy or manage new tools themselves. Features of the programme The Managed Services Provider Programme permits channel and services partners to deliver Java license, security and efficiency insights as part of their broader managed service packages. Under the agreement, MSPs create a secure, tenant-specific Intelligence Cloud environment for each end customer. Partners can then manage onboarding, deploy agents, oversee data collection, configure alerts and generate scheduled reports - all under their own brand, with results presented as "Powered by Azul." Through the service, partners can bundle Java license compliance advisories, application modernisation initiatives and managed DevOps services, adapting to varying service delivery and revenue models. The aim is to provide end customers with ongoing assurance of compliance and security with minimal operational involvement on the customer's part. Evan Boyd, Managing Director of Software Licensing Consultants, highlighted the visibility and operational benefits provided by the solution: "Azul Intelligence Cloud lets us see every JVM our customers use and depend on - whether it's Oracle, Azul, or any other OpenJDK distribution - and immediately understand compliance or security gaps. Embedding Intelligence Cloud into our managed service portfolio, particularly the annual Java advisory services we provide, means we can deliver faster, more accurate license reconciliation and real-time compliance for our customers while removing the operational burden." Reducing risk and false positives Azul has outlined a range of capabilities available through the Intelligence Cloud, including continuous runtime detection of all JVMs - covering vendor, version, installation and application details - which helps pinpoint Oracle JVMs subject to commercial licensing. This data can be attributed to the responsible teams and applications to ensure license compliance. Azul Vulnerability Detection makes use of class-level runtime data to reduce security vulnerability false positives by up to 99%, enabling MSPs to focus on actionable security risks. The Code Inventory feature helps identify unused and redundant Java code, allowing partners to offer advice on code base modernisation and maintenance. The detection of obsolete code can result in efficiency improvements and cost savings, and according to Azul, advisory services delivered through the programme could enable developers to reallocate as much as 40% of their time to other business priorities due to reduced code maintenance burdens. Because MSPs manage deployment, data gathering and insight delivery, clients are spared the complexity of operating additional software consoles, and are instead provided with actionable reporting about their Java estate health and risks. Partners and benefits The managed delivery approach is intended to simplify how customers access continuous insights into Java usage, compliance, security incidents and code efficiency - potentially supporting organisations in lowering audit exposure and licensing costs, bolstering security and reclaiming developer productivity. Simon Taylor, Vice President of Global Channel and Alliances at Azul, described the company's intent behind the programme: "Java estates continue to expand across a myriad of deployment environments, and the cost, time and resources required to get the right licensing and security insights for compliance-oriented decision making can be enormous. By giving partners full, managed access to Azul Intelligence Cloud, we're equipping them to deliver turnkey services where they can put clear, actionable reporting and insights into the hands of their customers' decision makers. Ultimately, this mitigates license audit risk and cost, surfaces critical vulnerabilities proactively and reclaims developer capacity for their customers."

The newly released Varonis Next-Gen Database Activity Monitoring (DAM) is designed as an agentless, cloud-native offering that aims to address traditional challenges associated with database security and compliance. Market entry The DAM solution is part of Varonis' strategy to expand its role in data protection within an increasingly AI-driven environment. The company has highlighted the importance of databases as critical assets for the global economy and as the core infrastructure supporting artificial intelligence projects. New approach to legacy challenges According to Varonis, legacy solutions in the DAM sector, such as Imperva and IBM Guardium, rely on technology stacks and deployment models that can be challenging to manage and slow to roll out. These traditional approaches require the installation of agents, may necessitate dedicated hardware, and often involve significant demands on staff resources. "Legacy DAM solutions like Imperva and IBM Guardium use outdated, agent-based technology that takes years to deploy and require hardware and multiple FTEs to operate. Even when deployed successfully, legacy DAM rarely provides more than a compliance checkbox. Varonis offers customers a modern alternative that is fast, cloud-based, and delivers security outcomes far beyond what legacy DAM offers," said Varonis VP of Product Strategy and former Imperva CTO Terry Ray. Feature set The Next-Gen DAM incorporates several core functionalities that Varonis contends will close existing security gaps. These include activity monitoring, which provides an audit trail of all database queries across cloud and on-premises environments. User and entity behaviour analytics are applied to detect and block suspicious actions as well as attempted data exfiltration in real time. Other components include data discovery and classification for identifying databases housing sensitive information, database access control to map permissions to corporate identities, and automated remediation - features that collectively allow organisations to revoke excessive permissions and enforce security policies without manual intervention. Unification of data security management Varonis emphasises the product's integration into its data security platform, asserting that it provides coverage for data at rest and in transit and supports automatic response to emerging threats. The company suggests this approach will help organisations reduce the risk of unauthorised data exposure as data proliferates across different environments. The DAM capabilities are available for a range of widely-used databases, including but not limited to Databricks, Microsoft SQL Server, Amazon RDS, Postgres, Oracle, and Snowflake. Context in the sector The DAM market has seen limited new entrants in recent years, with existing solutions generally remaining focused on compliance requirements rather than adaptive security monitoring. Several organisations cite the complexity of deployment and management as reasons for slow or incomplete DAM implementation. The Varonis release positions itself as a response to these factors, providing a solution claimed to reduce operational overhead and deployment timelines. The details provided by Varonis reflect an industry trend towards unified, cloud-native data security tools designed to address the needs of enterprises managing large volumes of sensitive information in dynamic environments.
