MNS accuses rivals of luring voters with cash in BEST credit society poll
Election for the BEST credit society, controlled by the Shiv Sena (UBT), is taking place on Monday. Its members are employees of the BEST undertaking, the civic transport and electricity provider public body.

In a video shared on X, Deshpande claimed a member of the BEST credit society received a pamphlet and in it was concealed an envelope with two Rs 500 notes.
'This game is to buy votes," he charged.
Deshpande said a formal complaint about this will be lodged with the election officer.
The Sena (UBT) and the MNS have formed 'Utkarsh panel' to contest the BEST credit society election. The panel comprises 21 members, of whom 18 are from the Shiv Sena (UBT), two from the MNS and one is from an association of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
Leaders of the Sena (UBT) and the MNS have said the latter does not have enough strength in the BEST, but this poll will give the two parties a platform to come together ahead of the local body elections in the state. PTI PR GK

Advocate demands Rs 5L from NAC executive officer for waterlogging, property damage
Bhubaneswar: An advocate has taken legal action against the executive officer (EO) of Banpur NAC in Khurda district, seeking a compensation of Rs 5 lakh after his home got flooded during recent rainfall. Sitaram Agrawal claimed that his residence, located in ward 10 under the NAC, was repeatedly flooded with rainwater. Despite bringing the issue to the attention of the EO, no resolution was provided, he alleged. Agrawal earlier filed a writ petition before the Orissa high court, which directed the EO to address the flooding issue. However, according to Agrawal, the EO did not comply with the court's directive. "Ignoring the direction of the high court and with a careless attitude, the EO, with the intention to harass me, demolished the soak pit in front of my house," Agrawal stated. He further alleged that the demolition, carried out on May 23, blocked the entrance and drainage path of his home. The advocate claimed that the lack of a proper drainage system led to the accumulation of rainwater, resulting in different diseases affecting his family and significant expenditure on repairs. "We spent lakhs of rupees on treatment and repairing the affected parts of our house due to flooding," Agrawal added. Agrawal also accused the EO of using arbitrary powers to discriminate against him, noting that other encroachments in the ward were not addressed. "It shows the EO's mala fide intention to harass me both mentally and financially," he alleged. In response to his grievances, Agrawal issued a legal notice to the EO, demanding compensation for the damages, losses and medical expenses incurred by him and his family.
