When Photos From Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani Helped Aditya Roy Kapur Get Aashiqui 2
Aditya Roy Kapur shared how he bagged the lead role in Aashiqui 2, revealing that Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani may have played a significant part in the casting decision.
Aditya Roy Kapur has been garnering widespread appreciation for his recent performance in Metro In Dino, where he shares the screen with Sara Ali Khan. Directed by the seasoned filmmaker Anurag Basu, the film has struck a chord with audiences due to its relatable themes and strong performances.
While Aditya has been part of numerous Bollywood projects over the years, his breakthrough moment came with the romantic musical drama Aashiqui 2.
Interestingly, in an earlier exclusive conversation with Zoom, the actor shared how he landed the lead role in Aashiqui 2 and it turns out that his part in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani played a crucial role in that casting decision.
During a chat, Aditya revealed a lesser-known aspect of his career trajectory. He mentioned that he had committed to Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani before being approached for Aashiqui 2. Both movies hit theatres in 2013, but it was his involvement in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani that set the stage for the opportunity that followed.
He recalled, 'I signed Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani first. Ayan Mukerji reached out to me for the film. After reading the script, I found it quite compelling and agreed to come on board. While I was filming for YJHD, Mohit Suri came to know that I was part of that project. He even saw some photos from the shoot. That's when he considered me for Aashiqui 2. So, in a way, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani led me to Aashiqui 2."
Aashiqui 2 marked a significant turning point in Aditya Roy Kapur's acting career. Portraying the role of Rahul Jaykar, a talented singer battling his inner demons, especially alcoholism, Aditya delivered a performance that was both emotionally intense and critically acclaimed. His chemistry with co-star Shraddha Kapoor, who played Aarohi Keshav Shirke, an aspiring singer and Rahul's love interest, struck a chord with audiences across the country.
Directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt under the banners of T-Series Films and Vishesh Films, Aashiqui 2 wasn't just a commercial success; it became a cultural phenomenon. The film's soundtrack played an instrumental role in its success. Songs like Tum Hi Ho, Sunn Raha Hai and Chahun Main Ya Naa became instant hits and continue to resonate with fans even today. Both Aditya and Shraddha gained immense popularity and critical acclaim, with Aashiqui 2 serving as a launchpad that catapulted them into Bollywood stardom.
A Career Beyond Aashiqui 2
Following the success of Aashiqui 2, Aditya Roy Kapur went on to star in a diverse range of films. His filmography includes titles like Fitoor, Ok Jaanu, Kalank, Malang and Ludo. Through these projects, he explored various genres and characters, establishing himself as a versatile performer capable of handling intense romantic roles as well as action and ensemble dramas.
Aditya's most recent release, Metro In Dino, has once again placed him in the limelight. Helmed by Anurag Basu, the ensemble cast also includes actors such as Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Konkona Sensharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The film unfolds across five major Indian cities—Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata and Bengaluru and chronicles the emotional journeys of four modern-day couples.
Each couple's story offers a unique perspective on contemporary relationships, diving deep into issues like emotional intimacy, interpersonal conflict, vulnerability and self-discovery. As the plot unfolds, the seemingly disconnected narratives begin to intertwine, revealing subtle emotional threads and shared themes among the characters.
