Can Texas A&M Football finally break the eight-win cycle in 2025?
The summer for Texas A&M football has given Aggie fans plenty to be excited about, especially with how well the program has been recruiting for the 2026 class. Paired with a veteran team ranked in the top five for returning production, it's easy to see why some in the media are high on the Maroon & White next season.
Over the last decade, Texas A&M has fallen into a frustrating cycle: a strong start to the season, finishing with eight wins, securing a solid recruiting class, raising fans' hopes, only to end with another eight-win campaign. A true live-action version of 'wash, rinse, repeat' that's left the fan base feeling apathetic.
Although A&M is currently in the 'solid recruiting' phase of this cycle, the team under second-year head coach Mike Elko seems to carry a different vibe. That's been evident not only among current players but also among recruits the Aggie staff has connected with over the past season.
Positive energy is great for recruiting and roster retention, but the ultimate question is whether that energy will translate to success on the field. For too long, Texas A&M has been on the outside looking in, despite boasting some of the best facilities in the country and consistent media hype from across the college football world.
We're back in that familiar spot, but this year, something feels different. That SEC Football Podcast recently previewed the Aggies' upcoming season and shared slightly differing opinions on what lies ahead.

Ohio State offers one of Wisconsin's top recruits in the class of 2027
AGTG, After a great conversation with @TylerBowen I am blessed to receive an offer from THE Ohio State University.@ryandaytime @AllenTrieu @GtownGridiron Ohio State extended an offer to class of 2027 four-star offensive tackle Cole Reiter on Monday. Reiter is a rising junior at Germantown High School in Germantown, Wisconsin. At 90.90, he is 247Sports' second-highest-rated class of 2027 prospect from the Badger State. Wisconsin and Ohio State now headline Reiter's offer sheet, which also includes Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas, Minnesota and Washington State. Given his top-end recruiting billing, that list is sure to grow over the next several months. 247Sports specifically ranks the 6-foot-7 tackle as the No. 274 overall player in the class and the No. 25 recruit at his position. Iola, Wisconsin, tight end Korz Loken is the only in-state recruit ranked higher than Reiter at No. 125 overall in the cycle and No. 9 at his position. Wisconsin is looking to improve its in-state recruiting efforts after four consecutive cycles without landing one of the state's top-three-ranked recruits. With the top-ranked Buckeyes now in the mix for Reiter, the Badgers may face an uphill battle to break that streak. Reiter's recruitment will be worth watching as the 2027 cycle heats up this winter. Wisconsin's immediate focus is still on the class of 2026, where the program's current class of 13 commitments ranks No. 39 nationally. Alabama flips 4-star class of 2026 recruit from Big Ten program in surprise move
The Alabama Crimson Tide picked up a nice flip in recruiting Monday morning. Four-star class of 2026 running back Javari Barnett flipped his commitment from the Illinois Fighting Illini and coach Bret Bielema to Alabama, he told On3. A 6-foot, 215-pound tailback from Tampa, Barnett had previously committed to the Illini back in April. Barnett is ranked the No. 30 running back in 247Sports' Composite Rankings, and the 478th player overall. Auburn, Florida and Tennessee are among the SEC teams that visited Barnett before he committed to Illinois. Alabama's 2026 class now consists of nine hard commitments. Barnett is the third player in the past week to announce a commitment to the Crimson Tide and coach Kalen DeBoer. He joins 3-star Indianapolis defensive lineman JJ Finch, who committed on Sunday, and four-star quarterback Jett Thomalla, the No. 15 overall QB in the 2026 class who flipped from Iowa State. Alabama's 2026 class is ranked No. 11 by On3's Team Industry rankings.
