Alabama flips 4-star class of 2026 recruit from Big Ten program in surprise move
The Alabama Crimson Tide picked up a nice flip in recruiting Monday morning.
Four-star class of 2026 running back Javari Barnett flipped his commitment from the Illinois Fighting Illini and coach Bret Bielema to Alabama, he told On3. A 6-foot, 215-pound tailback from Tampa, Barnett had previously committed to the Illini back in April.
Barnett is ranked the No. 30 running back in 247Sports' Composite Rankings, and the 478th player overall. Auburn, Florida and Tennessee are among the SEC teams that visited Barnett before he committed to Illinois.
Alabama's 2026 class now consists of nine hard commitments. Barnett is the third player in the past week to announce a commitment to the Crimson Tide and coach Kalen DeBoer. He joins 3-star Indianapolis defensive lineman JJ Finch, who committed on Sunday, and four-star quarterback Jett Thomalla, the No. 15 overall QB in the 2026 class who flipped from Iowa State.
Alabama's 2026 class is ranked No. 11 by On3's Team Industry rankings.

Steelers countdown to kickoff — No. 76: a history of the number and who wore it best
The Steelers countdown to kickoff is here — and we're at 76 days until Pittsburgh faces off against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. In the spirit of the countdown, we're taking a look at the history of No. 76 and the players who wore it best. Current Steelers No. 76 wearer: OT Troy Fautanu The Steelers selected Fautanu with the 20th overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. His selection was a welcome one — a move aimed at putting the finishing touches on Pittsburgh's offensive line rebuild. Fautanu may have practically missed the entirety of his rookie season due to a knee injury he sustained last year, but he remains in the Steelers' long-term plans for the offensive tackle position. Last five Steelers to wear No. 76: Best No. 76 in Steelers history: DE John Banaszak Banaszak played with the Steelers from 1975 to 1981, winning three Super Bowls alongside the legendary Steel Curtain defense as the starting right defensive end. He may not have been as flashy as other members of this all-time great unit, but he contributed to the start of the Steelers' dynasty nonetheless. Though sacks didn't become an official statistic until 1982, Banaszak finished his NFL and Steelers career with 22.5 sacks, five fumble recoveries, and one interception. Auburn football 2025 player profile: LB Demarcus Riddick
Riddick will look to anchor the Auburn linebacker room as a sophomore in 2025. One of the few areas of question this season for the Auburn Tigers will be at linebacker. Who will anchor the unit? A worthy candidate would be sophomore Demarcus Riddick, who burst onto the scene quickly in his career. After making two total stops in his first two games, Riddick broke out against Oklahoma with six tackles and a sack in just 23 snaps played. He went on to make at least two tackles in each of the final six games, with his next top performance coming against Vanderbilt, when he made five stops. In all, Riddick created 16 pressures last season with 11 quarterback hurries and three sacks. Riddick, along with Robert Woodyard and LSU transfer Xavier Atkins, are expected to run the linebacker corps this season, which will allow younger players such as Jakaleb Faulk, DJ Barber, and Bryce Deas to develop. Here is a look at Demarcus Riddick's 2025 player profile.
