The two highly coveted football schools will begin each of their 2025 seasons playing against each other, with new starting quarterbacks in Boston College transfer Thomas Castellanos for Florida State and redshirt junior Ty Simpson for Alabama.
Florida State's transfer quarterback took an early jab at Alabama ahead of their matchup, telling Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, "They don't have Nick Saban to save them. I just don't see them stopping me." Castellanos also said that it has been a dream of his to face Alabama.
Castellanos is set to play for his third school as he committed to Florida State in December of 2024, after spending his freshman year at UCF and his sophomore and junior seasons at Boston College.

At 5-foot-9, 196 pounds, the dual-threat quarterback has compiled over 3,600 passing yards, over 1,400 rushing yards, and 48 total touchdowns in the 26 games he's played in Division-I college football.
Castellanos was the starting quarterback for Boston College to begin the 2024 season but was replaced during their Nov. 9 game against Syracuse for Grayson James following a declining performance mixed with injuries.

He'll be joining a Mike Norvell led Florida State team that's looking to flip their program around after a disappointing 2024 that resulted in a 2-10 record.
Meanwhile, Alabama will look to rally back in the SEC after missing the College Football Playoff last season and losing to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl.

It will be just the sixth time the two decorated football schools will face off against each other.

Alabama Suffers Recruiting Blow to Heated SEC Rival

Alabama Suffers Recruiting Blow to Heated SEC Rival originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Throughout the offseason, the Alabama Crimson Tide and head coach Kalen DeBoer have put in effort to assemble a strong 2026 recruiting class, which currently ranks No. 11 in the nation with nine commitments. Advertisement One name they were looking to make a push for was EDGE Khamari Brooks, who they brought in for an official visit on June 6, his fifth time the program had hosted him. Things were certainly trending in the right direction, as Brooks' decision had come down between Alabama and the Georgia Bulldogs, who also hosted him for an official visit (May 30). Unfortunately for the Crimson Tide, though, they did not come out on top in this battle, as Brooks committed to the Bulldogs on Monday. For Alabama, this loss will certainly sting, as On3 Industry Rankings has Brooks as a four-star recruit, the No. 17 EDGE, the No. 13 player in Georgia and the No. 115 player in the nation. Advertisement He was also impressive on one of the biggest stages, helping North Oconee defeat Marist 14-7 in the GHSA 4A state championship, recording eight tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. However, what will ease things is the fact that head coach Kalen DeBoer has already landed several talented pass rushers, including four-star EDGE Jamarion Matthews and four-star defensive lineman Kamhariyan Johnson. Alabama guard receives positive eligibility update for 2025-26 season

Trelly is 𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠. According to an announcement from the university's official NIL entity "Yea Alabama" on Monday, Alabama Crimson Tide guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr. has received a medical redshirt for the 2025-26 season. As a result, Wrightsell, who suffered a season-ending injury a year ago, will be eligible to play for the Crimson Tide during the 2025-26 season. Fellow guard Houston Mallette also received a medical redshirt earlier this offseason that rules him eligible for the 2025-26 season as well. This past season, Wrightsell appeared in only eight games for the Crimson Tide prior to suffering an injury, five of which he started. Over that span, Wrightsell averaged 11.5 points, 1.8 rebounds, and two assists per game on 50% shooting from the field, as well as 42.2% from three and 85% at the free throw line. Prior to last season, Wrightsell was a key member of Alabama's 2023-24 Final Four team who transferred into the program that year from Cal State Fullerton. That season, Wrightsell started 12-of-31 games to average 8.9 points, three rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.1 steals per game on 44.6% shooting from the field, as well as 44.7% from three and a perfect 27-for-27 at the free throw line. The graduate student guard will likely enter the 2025-26 season as a projected starter, and should be among the Crimson Tide's top scorers, as well as three-point shooters.
