He was speaking on Sunday at the inauguration of a new RUB constructed at Challaghatta in the Kengeri-Hejjala section, replacing level crossing no. 15. The project was completed for Rs 5.52 crore. 'I've instructed officials to survey all surrounding taluks and hoblis,' the Minister said. Somanna also announced plans for a Mega Coaching Terminal near Bengaluru Airport. 'The Railway Board has completed the survey, and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being prepared. We're currently evaluating sites around the airport, including Devanahalli and Chikkaballapur. A final decision will be made within three to four months,' he said.
Before the inauguration, he also performed the ceremony for another RUB at level crossing no. 16 in the same section, connecting Ramohalli to Mysuru Road. That project will be developed for Rs 7.74 crore.
Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Labour & Employment, Shobha Karandlaje, also present at the event, recalled a tragic accident where a person was fatally hit by a train and stressed the urgent need for more RUBs and ROBs to prevent such incidents.

The minister announced infrastructure funding, including Rs 30 lakh for road construction in Chandaluru village, Rs 2 crore for the Chandaluru-Gangavaram BT road, and Rs 35 lakh for constructing a dining hall at the district council high school. Gottipati explained that the primary objective of the 'Suparipalanalo Tholi Adugu- Intintiki Telugu Desam' initiative is to monitor how welfare schemes reach eligible beneficiaries during the coalition government's 15-month tenure. He emphasised that programmes such as pensions, Talliki Vandanam, and the Deepam gas scheme distribution should be verified by relevant department officials and secretariat staff. He emphasised the crucial role of party workers in implementing government schemes.

Bhatti takes stock of flood prep in Khammam, Kothagudem districts
Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu reviewed the flood conditions during the current monsoon season with district officials from Khammam and Kothagudem. The meeting, held on Sunday, focused on the need for alertness, the provision of relief measures for affected individuals, welfare schemes, and the establishment of additional emergency facilities. Attendees included Khammam District In-charge Minister Vakati Srihari, Ministers Tummala Nageswara Rao and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, as well as district Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly, and other public representatives. The Deputy Chief Minister assured that solar pump sets, sprinklers, drip irrigation systems, and horticultural crops would be provided free of charge to farmers under the ROFR Act through the Indira Giri Jal Vikasam scheme, with a total expenditure of Rs 12,600 crore planned over three years. However, it was noted that some MLAs are delaying the submission of proposals for Roads and Buildings (R&B) and Panchayat Raj roads. The government has prepared a budget of Rs 20,000 crore for constructing all roads. The Deputy Chief Minister clarified that there is no shortage of urea, assuring farmers that they need not worry. He emphasized that the Indiramma housing scheme will be remembered as a significant achievement. Additionally, he urged authorities to develop plans for raising fish fry through women's groups in every district. He stated, 'We warmly welcome Vakiti Srihari as the district in-charge minister. However, flood relief measures should be initiated by all authorities, and life jackets must be readily available. A control room should remain operational until the end of the rainy season. As part of Vana Mahotsav, useful plants should be distributed to the community, benefiting everyone. Officials were directed to provide information regarding the number of plants planted over the last ten years, the costs associated with planting them, and the survival rate of those plants. In a major panchayat, detail the number of plants planted in the past ten years, the costs incurred, the survival rate, and the steps that should be taken to ensure their survival. A complete study should be conducted as part of a pilot project, with all relevant details provided. On the education front, he highlighted the need for integrated schools to be established on 25 acres, with all integrated schools serving as role models. Welfare and Gurukul students should receive meals according to a set menu, with no compromises on quality. Additionally, continuous medical check-ups should be conducted for students throughout the rainy season.

PTI The Gauhati High Court in 2022 had ruled that a marriage conducted in a church under the Christian Marriage Act, 1872, between a man and a woman from the Kuki tribe cannot be dissolved by customary practices involving the Songpijan village committee or 'gaonburas (village elders)' in Assam's Dima Hasao district. The court stated that such a marriage can only be annulled through legal proceedings before the High Court or a district judge, as outlined in section 10 of the Divorce Act, 1869. Before the 2022 High Court ruling affirming his 1994 church marriage to Neikhol Changsan, he had remarried another woman after a customary divorce, and he has a daughter from each marriage. Supreme Court's observation The Supreme Court, addressing Changsan's appeal, expressed no sympathy for him. After mediation attempts failed, a bench led by Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi noted on Friday (July 25) that the Gauhati High Court's judgment was legally robust. Recognising that the Indian Foreign Service officer has been married to his second wife for nearly 15 years, the court sought a resolution to this legal and matrimonial dilemma, aiming to help Neikhol rebuild her life. Arguments by first wife, IFS officer Neikhol, representing herself in court, claimed she single-handedly raised her 29-year-old daughter without her husband's involvement and accused Changsan of manipulatively estranging their daughter from her. She urged the Supreme Court to 'protect her honour and dignity,' describing how Changsan secretly dissolved their marriage through tribal elders before remarrying. In response, senior advocate Menaka Guruswamy, representing the ambassador, stated that he has been covering their daughter's expenses, who is now pursuing a career in Bengaluru. Changsan also noted he has provided Neikhol with a house in Delhi and pays her Rs 20,000 monthly maintenance. The Supreme Court bench remarked, 'We have absolutely no sympathy for the man. The HC judgment is in your favour, and you have suffered socially and mentally. But can you think of a way to start life afresh?' To facilitate a potential resolution, the court suggested Neikhol meet her daughter in Bengaluru to discuss future steps. It directed Changsan to arrange her flight tickets, provide accommodation near her daughter's residence, and pay an ad hoc sum of Rs 3 lakh to support the visit. Justice Kant emphasised, 'If at all there is a possibility of settlement, the daughter could have a significant role to play,' urging the ambassador to encourage his daughter to reconnect with her mother.
