Motorist with bizarre name crashes, seriously injures worker

A Wisconsin man named Patches Magickbeans has been arrested and charged after crashing his van into construction equipment and seriously injuring a worker while allegedly high on magic mushrooms.
Court documents said Mr Magickbeans, 34, was 'swerving and weaving' on a Minnesota highway last Thursday afternoon when his van hit a curb.
The van then barrelled into a scissor lift being operated by two construction workers, before smashing into the Lafayette Tunnel and rolling several times.
One of the construction workers, who has been identified as 27-year-old Benjamin Kidd, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Local media outlets reported that Mr Kidd remains in critical condition. Patches Magickbeans is currently being held at Lake County Jail on $75,000 bail. Credit: Supplied
Responders to the scene said Mr Magickbeans appeared intoxicated at the sight of the crash, with court documents noting his 'blown pupils' and his 'combativeness' with rescue workers.
Police found psilocybin mushrooms inside of his car, which Mr Magickbeans initially claimed he had foraged but later admitted were magic mushrooms.
He told authorities on the scene he had consumed 'a small (magic mushroom) the day before as well as a marijuana edible'.
Mr Magickbeans was charged with two counts of criminal vehicular operation and one count of 2nd degree controlled substance crime.
His next court appearance is scheduled for August.
The man legally changed his name to Patches Magickbeans in January 2015.
Mr Magickbeans has been in local media before the incident, with his Instagram page showing him on the front page of a regional newspaper for his work as a 'corn juggler' – a vendor who juggles ears of corn from his roadside stand for motorists.

Liberals apologise after hackers post explicit photos on party socials

Don't miss out on the headlines from Hacking. Followed categories will be added to My News. Hours after Sussan Ley vowed to lead a Liberal Party 'that is proudly for women', explicit images were posted on its social media accounts. The images appeared on the Liberals' Facebook and Instagram accounts about midnight and were the product of hacking, the party said in a statement on Thursday. 'Overnight, the social media account of a contractor used by the party was hacked, leading to the posting of unauthorised material on the Liberal Party's Meta accounts at around midnight,' the statement said. 'All material was removed within 10 minutes of it being posted and the matter was urgently raised with the Australian Cyber Security Centre and with Meta overnight 'We apologise for any offence caused.' The Liberal party's Facebook account was hacked overnight. Picture: Facebook Explicit images appearing to advertise breast implants were shared to the party's official page. Picture: Facebook The hack came as the Liberal Party tries to rebrand after years of criticism for its dwindling female representation. In her first major speech on Wednesday, the newly elected Opposition Leader said she wanted to boost the number of women in her party's ranks and left the door open to quotas. 'We must be a Liberal Party that is proudly for women and made up of women. Our party must preselect more women in winnable seats so that we see more Liberal women in federal parliament,' she said. 'Now, I'm agnostic on specific methods to make it happen, but I am a zealot that it does actually happen. Current approaches have clearly not worked, so I am open to any approach that will.' Hours earlier, Opposition Leader Sussan Ley declared she wanted to lead a Liberal Party that is 'proudly for women and made up of women'. Hackers target Liberal Party's social media after first female leader Sussan Ley's first major speech

Hackers posted explicit photos of women during a crude takeover of the Liberals' social media accounts overnight prompting an apology from the party. The hack came just hours after the Liberal's first female leader Sussan Ley vowed to lead a party 'proudly for women' in a historic National Press Club address. The unauthorised material was posted to their Facebook and Instagram accounts at around midnight and was removed within 10 minutes. 'The matter was urgently raised with the Australian Cyber Security Centre and with Meta overnight. We apologise for any offence caused,' the party said in a statement. Explicit images posted to Liberal Party's social media accounts during hack

Hackers have been blamed for explicit images posted to the federal opposition's social media accounts just hours after Sussan Ley said the Liberal Party must be 'proudly for women'. Pictures of scantily-clad women appeared as 'story' posts pushed out on the Liberal Party of Australia's Facebook and Instagram accounts late on Wednesday. They were up for a few minutes — enough time for followers to take screenshots — before they were pulled down. 'Overnight, the social media account of a contractor used by the party was hacked, leading to the posting of unauthorised material on the Liberal Party's Meta accounts at around midnight,' the party said in a statement. 'All material was removed within 10 minutes of it being posted and the matter was urgently raised with the Australian Cyber Security Centre and with Meta overnight 'We apologise for any offence caused.' It came after opposition leader used her first address to the National Press Club to acknowledge the devastating federal election loss on May 3. 'We didn't just lose. We got smashed. Totally smashed,' Ley said. 'What we as the Liberal Party presented to the Australian people was comprehensively rejected. 'The scale of that defeat — its size and significance — is not lost on me, nor on any one of my parliamentary team sitting here today.' Ley, the party's first woman to be appointed leader, also described herself as a 'zealot' about increasing women's representation in the party. 'We must be a Liberal Party that is proudly for women and made up of women,' she said. 'Our party must preselect more women in winnable seats so that we see more Liberal women in Federal Parliament.' She said two reviews are underway. The first is a 'root and branch review of the election result' and the other focused on a 'deeper look at the existential issues we face'.
