The portable Shark fan makes it so easy to just pick it up and take around
A portable, battery-powered fan is something I've wanted for a long time. As someone who's not a big fan of scorching temperatures, summer can be a tad uncomfortable for me, that was until I ordered Shark's FlexBreeze TableMate fan.
With another heatwave set to hit the UK this week, it's a decision that's proved very wise indeed. I already had a couple of very decent plug-in fans that do a great job of keeping me cool indoors when the mercury soars.
But, obviously, they aren't the most practical when it comes to moving about. After sitting in the garden scorching one too many times, I reached for Shark's portable offering that has the brilliant feature of being battery powered.
It makes it so easy just unplug it, pick it up and take it with you which is a godsend on really warm days. Now is a good time to buy one too, thanks to a sizeable discount.
It's currently down to £99.99, rather than the £149.99 RRP at both Shark and Amazon. It features five speeds, with the top settings genuinely providing a substantial cooling breeze.
'I adore how simple it is'
Additional features include tilt and oscillation functions, which prove useful for ensuring the airflow reaches exactly where you need it. Whilst Shark claims the design offers UV and water resistance.
The above features prove hugely beneficial when using it outdoors. I also absolutely adore how simple it is to lift it with the integrated handle and transport it outside with minimal fuss. Plus, there's no pesky cables to manage.
The Tablemate is heavy, with the Shark Hydrogo (£129.99) being more compact and a superior choice if you desire a fan to accompany you to the gym. The Hydrogo also incorporates a misting function, releasing a spray of cool mist for particularly sweltering days.
If you're looking for a more budget-friendly option, Amazon offers a portable handheld fan for £19.99, which also boasts a fancy misting spray function. A cheaper alternative and proves shoppers don't have to spend extortionate amounts.
Another option at the cheaper end of the spectrum, Argos also has an affordable option in the form of the Challenge White Desk Fan. Priced at £25, it has solid reviews from buyers to date, averaging out at 4.7 out of 5.
Argos says the battery will last around 1.5 hours when used on a high setting and 4.5 hours on low. Another minor drawback with the Shark Tablemate is that the battery tends to drain quickly when the fan is cranked up to full power.
It's not a deal-breaker, but it would be an improvement if it could last a bit longer at higher speeds.

'I tried the Ultenic T20 robot vacuum and mop that's now £120 off at Amazon'

Robot vacuums claim to be little helpers in the home that can get on with cleaning the floors so households don't have to. Zipping around picking up dust, crumbs, and pet hair, some models can even give it a once over with a mop, Thanks to smart sensors and mapping tech, they know where they're going, avoid bumping into things and can squeeze under sofas or beds to tackle those 'out of sight, out of mind' spots. But is all this robot assistance just a gimmick, wowing us all with housework helpers from the future? I recently tried the Ultenic T20 Pro Robot Vacuum and Mop and I can confirm it's a fascinating wee thing that really does clean and vacuum. What's more, this particular range-topping model currently has an impressive 33% discount on Amazon - taking the price down from £359.99 to £239.99. According to the website, the Ultenic Robot Vacuum and Mop packs a powerful 8000Pa suction and the AI-powered LiDAR navigation system scans and maps rooms in real time. Designed to avoid furniture, cables and stairs for smooth, collision-free cleaning, it claims to give consistent results without having to move things around or worry about missed spots. The 4-in-1 device can vacuum, sweep, mop and even empty its own dustbin into the docking station. Users can choose between vacuum-and-mop, suction-only, or mop-only modes, with adjustable suction and water flow to suit surfaces like wood, tile or carpet. It claims to be able to run for up to 150 minutes on a single charge, covering areas up to 200㎡ and will automatically return to charge when the battery is low before resuming the job. Here's what I thought about the Ultenic T20 Pro Robot Vacuum and Mop. Pros: Quick and easy to set and charge. Has a useful app. Maps floor areas accurately. Allows the user to set different areas for no-mop zones to prevent carpets getting wet. Suction levels can be changed. Cons: App is a little confusing to navigate at first. Requires dust bags which need changing when full. It wasn't very keen on some of my rugs. To begin with, I popped the Ultenic T20 Pro Robot Vacuum and Mop on charge for around six hours as recommended in the Quick Start guide. A bit confusing at first, the back end of the vacuum just needs to be in contact with the charging prongs to start working. A flashing blue light on the unit let me know that it was working. Users can also check the battery level percentage on the app. Once ready to go, I set it loose around my lounge to begin the mapping process. Myself, my husband, the cat and the dog all watched this happen, slightly fascinated by the little round spinning thing that was making its way around the room, deftly tucking itself under furniture without getting stuck. All the while, I watched on the app as it snaked a line around the room. While it was imrpessive, I will say that it just didn't even bother trying to include my two rugs, opting instead to just navigate round them. In defence of my new found robotic friend, this was it's first outing and I'd imagine there is any easy way to clean the rugs and I just need to get to know the app better. I was also very impressed with the self emptying function in the base unit, but it comes with little vacuum bags that will need replacing when full. Once mapped, it took itself around again to vacuum and, although my floor was pretty clean anyway, it picked up any remaining dust bunnies and biscuit crumbs and easily dealt with the occasional clump of pet hair. I found the mop was also very efficient. All I had to do was fill the tank with warm water, and pop it back into place. The microfibre mop cloth slips off in seconds for easy machine washing, and there's a spare included, so hopefully these should last me a while. It also came with a small bottle of cleaning solution. My wooden floors looked nicely cleaned without being soaked. I had previously wondered how a robotic floor cleaner would deal with not wetting carpets, but it turns out that you can set 'no-mop' zones on the map, so carpets stay dry while your little helper works its way around the rest of the house. I've only just started using the Ultenic T20 Pro so there is still plenty to learn. On first impression though, it does exactly what it says on the tin - vacuums and cleans the floor so I don't have to. I'm looking forward to getting to know it better and setting it into action while I go and do something more fun instead. Robot vacuums are very much on trend these days, thanks in part to the original Roomba. With so many to choose from, the ground breaking iRobot range from Roomba still has some good deals to choose from. The iRobot Roomba® 205 DustCompactor Combo Robot for example, is down from £399 to £279 on Amazon. With7000Pa, 4 suction levels and object detection buyers have called it a 'capable robot cleaner'. Elsewhere, Argos is offering a discount of £61 off the eufy G50 Hybrid Robot Vacuum & Mop, now on sale for £139. A more affordable option, this model has a lower 4,000Pa suction level, but is still a good option for buyers on a budget. If money is no object, Dyson have launched their very own robot vacuum with a whopping 22,000Pa of suction pressure. Available for an eye watering £1,249.99, the Dyson 360 Vis Nav™ robot vacuum cleaner claims to be 'the most powerful robot vacuum' with '6x the suction of any other robot vacuum'. The Ultenic T20 Pro has received a very healthy 4.6 out of five-star rating from Amazon shoppers. One buyer said: "This robo-vac performs much better than I expected, did a good job of cleaning carpets; I am very impressed with it and I find it easy to use the app. Very good buy. The first robot is in my house. Easy to install, and I love that I can control it with the app. When I come home after day hard work my house floors are clean . It's hoovers and mops all floors, also cleans itself. Absolutely brilliant." Another added: "I've been using the Ultenic T20 Pro for a few weeks now, and it's completely transformed my cleaning routine. The 8000 Pa suction power tackles even deeply embedded pet hair and stubborn debris on both hard floors and carpets without a hitch ... it's a game changer!" A third simply said: "It's far from your average robot vacuum this is a highly advanced machine that vacuums and mops at the same time, delivering an impressively thorough clean." Not all buyers were quite so impressed however. One disappointed shopper said: "It's quite noisy and the instructions are poor" while another added: "it doesn't live up to expectations unfortunately." Overall, the Ultenic Pro 20 received a not to shabby 134 five-star reviews. Another delighted customer said: "Couldn't wait to receive this & I have to say I am blown away with its performance. Its a life changer. I would definitely recommend this robot hoover 100%. Its is by far my best purchase this year."

If you travel a lot, or even if you just spend a bit of time exploring the great outdoors, you'll be familiar with the need to charge up your tech on the move. Whether it's a phone or a drone, charging on the go generally requires two things. A power source, and a cable. Ugreen is one of a handful of companies embracing a new technological trend of blending these two parts into one device. And I've been testing the latest selection of Nexode retractable device over the summer. Here's what I've discovered about them. Ugreen Nexode Power Bank The retractable cable can pump out up to 100 watts | Ugreen Finding a portable power bank with a 20,000mAh battery and a 165 watt output isn't much of a challenge these days. But finding one with a retractable cable is. And finding one for less than £100 used to be pretty much impossible - until now. This Nexode power bank is a fairly heavy little thing, but it packs in all the tech you'd need from a portable power source. The display, for example, is easy to understand and gives you all the information you'll need about what's going in, what's going out, and how much is left in the tank. On the top, there's a USB-A port, a USB-C port which can accept power in and out, and then the trick retractable cable. The additional sockets are really useful | Ugreen It's easy to undersell this technology. Even though the power bank comes with a meaty USB-C cable in the box, sometimes you just don't want another peripheral to pack away - and being able to pop out a thin, flat cable that's rated at 100 watts is so useful. It can even double as the unit's charging lead. So you simply don't need to carry wires around any more. The cable doesn't go out all that far, perhaps just over half a metre. But you can stop it at any stage, and it's comfortably long enough to have it sat next to your phone, or tablet, or laptop, or... Whatever it is you're charging. To retract it, just give it a little tweak and it recoils quickly and smoothly. And the plug sits flush on the base of the unit, held on by a magnet. It's so neat. The fact it can put out 100 watts - more than enough for most smartphones on the market - and the fact it can charge up from flat in two hours, really is the icing on the cake. It's a brilliant bit of kit. Ugreen Nexode 65W Charger There are smaller and larger versions - but the Amazon deal for the 65 watt version is such a bargain | Ugreen I really think this might be the best use of a retractable cable, especially for frequent travellers. It has two USB sockets, A and C, and a short retractable cable built in. This means you simply don't need to carry a wire around with you any more. As long as you only need to charge one device at a time, it's got a 60 watt cable ready to go. And, if you do need to top up another device, just connect a cable and share up to 65 watts of power across two or three sockets. GaN USB wall plugs can obviously be much more compact than this, and it is a little heavy, but it's just such a neat little all-in one unit and an absolute bargain if you can catch the offer. Ugreen Nexode Car Charger Car charging has never been more convenient | Ugreen Similar to the wall charger, this compact little car charger offers a retractable cable aimed at keeping the inside of your car clutter-free. Quite remarkably, it has a potential output of 145 watts, which is spread across four different power sources. There's one USB-A socket, two USB-C sockets, and a retractable cable. You might think this is a bit of a niche product, given that modern cars have at least a few USB-C sockets these days, and maybe even a built-in wireless charger. But not all do. And even if your car is kitted out, it's ideal for people who take a lot of tech with them on road trips. It's also going to be very useful for families, because kids will no longer need to fight over the socket in the back. There are plenty of outputs once this is plugged in. Being able to share 145 watts from one power source is more than enough reason to invest in one of these, but the retractable cable means there's one less thing to lose down the side of the seat. It's a shame the built-in cable pops out awkwardly rather than tucks away like the other units do, but apart from that it's a top piece of tech for a pretty decent price. Ugreen Nexode Retractable USB-C Cable This handy little cable reel is perfect for travellers | Ugreen This might be one of those devices nobody really strictly needs, but everyone really wants. It's a little "puck" that contains two lengths of high-output USB-C lead that you can use for charging and data transfer. The handy thing about it is its neatness. No more wrapping up cables and coming back to them to find them all tangled, this little gadget packs in a metre of flat wire, ready to reel out and reel in any time. It's small enough to fit in a pocket quite easily, but big enough to provide up to 100 watts of power. Yes, you can buy retractable cables like this in a pound shop, but they absolutely won't be able to charge a MacBook Pro, or transfer data at up to 480Mbps. Perhaps it is a luxury item, but it's far from a luxury price. It's a great addition to the Nexode retractable range.

By simply ticking a box beneath the price on the product page, shoppers can knock an extra £15 off the price tag, bringing the total down to £134. This equates to a total saving of £155, or 53%, from the initial price, but the deal is set to expire at 23.59pm on Tuesday, August 12. This particular model is one of the top sellers in Amazon's Robotic Vacuums category with more than 900 units sold in the past month. The Monsga vacuum is the perfect tool to cut down cleaning time, featuring an anti-tangle brushroll that effortlessly removes hair while cleaning hardwood floors or carpets. According to the brand, its powerful 150,000 RPM turbine enables it to pick up everything from fine dust to larger crumbs, while its compact and 3.2" tall body allows it to reach tricky areas and clean under furniture, reports the Daily Record. The Monsga offers four distinct cleaning modes, with auto mode adjusting suction for different surfaces. Spot mode targets spills, edge mode cleans along walls, and Manual mode provides users with app control for more precise cleaning. The robot vacuum packs a punch with its robust battery, capable of running for 140 minutes on a single charge. It smartly and automatically returns to its dock to recharge when the power dips below 15%, ensuring it's ready to go again. This is a worthwhile purchase for keeping things tidy between deep cleans. It's very effective and convenient." Another said: "This exceeded my expectations. It's quiet enough to run while I'm on calls and the suction power is great for both tile and carpet. I was impressed by how well it navigates around furniture without bumping into things too hard. "The dustbin is easy to empty, and the setup took less than 10 minutes. It's become part of my daily routine, I don't think I could go back to manual vacuuming now." However, not everyone was thrilled, as one customer review said: "Couldn't find its way back to the charger. Just bumped around into things not cleaning where there is space. Also poor suction." Meanwhile, another user left a glowing five-star review of the Monsga vacuum, saying: "The robot vacuum is absolutely fantastic. It cleans so thoroughly that I hardly ever need to do any cleaning myself. While it makes a bit of noise, it's not a problem at all since you can easily schedule it to run while you're out. The battery life is impressive too – it runs long enough to clean the whole house in one go."
