'Brilliant Shark fan that's saved me this summer has £50 off as UK heatwave arrives'

The portable Shark fan makes it so easy to just pick it up and take around A portable, battery-powered fan is something I've wanted for a long time. As someone who's not a big fan of scorching temperatures, summer can be a tad uncomfortable for me, that was until I ordered Shark's FlexBreeze TableMate fan. With another heatwave set to hit the UK this week, it's a decision that's proved very wise indeed. I already had a couple of very decent plug-in fans that do a great job of keeping me cool indoors when the mercury soars. But, obviously, they aren't the most practical when it comes to moving about. After sitting in the garden scorching one too many times, I reached for Shark's portable offering that has the brilliant feature of being battery powered. It makes it so easy just unplug it, pick it up and take it with you which is a godsend on really warm days. Now is a good time to buy one too, thanks to a sizeable discount. It's currently down to £99.99, rather than the £149.99 RRP at both Shark and Amazon. It features five speeds, with the top settings genuinely providing a substantial cooling breeze. 'I adore how simple it is' Additional features include tilt and oscillation functions, which prove useful for ensuring the airflow reaches exactly where you need it. Whilst Shark claims the design offers UV and water resistance. The above features prove hugely beneficial when using it outdoors. I also absolutely adore how simple it is to lift it with the integrated handle and transport it outside with minimal fuss. Plus, there's no pesky cables to manage. The Tablemate is heavy, with the Shark Hydrogo (£129.99) being more compact and a superior choice if you desire a fan to accompany you to the gym. The Hydrogo also incorporates a misting function, releasing a spray of cool mist for particularly sweltering days. If you're looking for a more budget-friendly option, Amazon offers a portable handheld fan for £19.99, which also boasts a fancy misting spray function. A cheaper alternative and proves shoppers don't have to spend extortionate amounts. Another option at the cheaper end of the spectrum, Argos also has an affordable option in the form of the Challenge White Desk Fan. Priced at £25, it has solid reviews from buyers to date, averaging out at 4.7 out of 5. Argos says the battery will last around 1.5 hours when used on a high setting and 4.5 hours on low. Another minor drawback with the Shark Tablemate is that the battery tends to drain quickly when the fan is cranked up to full power. It's not a deal-breaker, but it would be an improvement if it could last a bit longer at higher speeds.

It is a perfect transportable size, measuring 40cm tall and 35cm wide. It weighs only 3kg and has a handy carry handle that makes it easy to take with you anywhere you need. In addition, the fan is equipped for unpredictable British weather and humid conditions as it is waterproof and UV resistant. Despite its humble size, it packs a lot of power with five different speeds in addition to oscillation. According to Shark, the fan's breeze can be felt from 20 meters away. At the lowest speed setting, you can keep your bedroom cool overnight, as the FlexBreeze can run continuously for up to 24 hours. "The fan has a battery charger, this means it will run for up to 24 hrs on single fan speed. Overnight a godsend, ran from 10pm till 6:45am on fan 2 and moving 45 degrees. Quiet as a mouse." Another added: "This fan is ingenious. How much money we all have wasted looking for a fan that was supposed to be silent. This pretty much concludes that quest. This fan is all I ever wanted." A third person said: "When Shark said it's silent, it's silent. Full stop. I only just unboxed it, but it does all it says on the tin, but better than all other fans. "My Dyson is going into the cupboard. It's well designed and looks and feels solid." If you want to splurge a little more and want a bigger version, The Sun has tested the FlexBreeze Pro Mist which retails for £219. We've also put the best home fans through their paces to help you beat the UK heatwave in style. How to keep cool in hot weather Most of us welcome hot weather, but when it's too hot, there are health risks. Here are three ways to keep cool according to the NHS... Keep out of the heat if you can. If you have to go outside, stay in the shade especially between 11am and 3pm, wear sunscreen, a hat and light clothes, and avoid exercise or activity that makes you hotter. Cool yourself down. Have cold food and drinks, avoid alcohol, caffeine and hot drinks, and have a cool shower or put cool water on your skin or clothes. Keep your living space cool. Close windows during the day and open them at night when the temperature outside has gone down. Electric fans can help if the temperature is below 35 degrees. Check the temperature of rooms, especially where people at higher risk live and sleep.
