Ex-Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer avoids jail for vehicular manslaughter charge
Klinghoffer, 45, pleaded no contest to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence in an Alhambra courtroom on Wednesday, Rolling Stone reported.
Klinghoffer — who was facing one year behind bars — was sentenced to a year of informal probation and 60 days of community labor for running over and killing 47-year-old Israel Sanchez with his 2022 GMC Yukon on March 18, 2024, in the Los Angeles suburb of Alhambra.

Sanchez was transported to a local area hospital and declared dead later that day. Officials ruled his cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head.
Los Angeles County Judge Rosa Fregoso also sentenced Klinghoffer to complete a driver safety class and pay restitution to Sanchez's family, which will be determined at a later date, according to Rolling Stone.
Following Klinghoffer's plea, a prosecutor warned him of the dangers of distracted driving and said he could be charged with murder if he killed someone again.
Sanchez's daughter, Ashley Sanchez, was in tears as she read a victim impact statement about how her father was 'the heart' of her family.
'My father was an extraordinary grandfather to my [children],' the heartbroken daughter told the court, according to Rolling Stone. 'His absence has left an irreversible void in our lives.'

After praising her father as an extraordinary cook and painter with a 'unique gift for soothing' the ones he loved with his meals and art, she addressed Klinghoffer directly.
She told the rocker her father's death was an 'avoidable loss that has shaken my family,' and his irresponsible actions have left her and others with 'deep and lasting trauma.'
A wrongful death suit filed by Sanchez's family in July against Klinghoffer alleges the musician was using a cell phone and driving a car with no plates when the accident took place.
The lawsuit also claims that there is video evidence suggesting Klinghoffer 'was likely driving while distracted,' was using 'a device mere seconds before,' and 'made no braking or slowing motion until after he fatally struck' Sanchez.

However, police have determined that Klinghoffer was not using a cell phone at the time of the accident.
Video of the accident, obtained by TMZ, shows the black SUV making a left turn at the intersection of West Main Street and Meridian Avenue and then striking Sanchez.
The driver of the SUV was seen pulling over, walking over to the body, turning around, and quickly walking back to the car.
A judge denied the family's renewed attempt to seek damages in the lawsuit in January, according to Rolling Stone.

The judge ruled that the claims against the guitarist's actions were not 'willful and conscious disregard' for the safety of others around him when he hit and killed Sanchez.
Klinghoffer has been a staple in the alt-rock world since the late aughts, joining The Red Hot Chili Peppers as a guitarist in 2009 following the departure of his friend, John Frusciante, from the band.
In 2012, Klinghoffer was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame alongside the band, which made him the youngest inductee at 32 years old.

During his time with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, he recorded two studio albums, I'm with You (2011) and The Getaway (2016).
In 2019, Frusciante returned, and Klinghoffer was let go from the band.
Klinghoffer has recently toured with Pearl Jam as a supplemental musician and contributed to the group's most recent album, 'Dark Matter.'
He also releases his own music under the pseudonym Pluralone.

Why Choose One? Saweetie Wants ‘Boffum' in Hyphy New Video
With 'Boffum,' Saweetie delivered a quintessential Saweetie track — but also a stunning video. On Friday, as she released EP Hella Pressure, the rap queen shared the visual for her Young Buck-sampling single. 'The duality of Saweetie is 'Boffum.' I'm this and I'm that,' Saweetie tells Rolling Stone of the track. 'There's just always such a discourse online of people wondering where I'm from, what do I really act like… this and that. But it's just like what you see is really what you get.' More from Rolling Stone Demi Lovato Speeds Into Her Electro-Pop Era With 'Fast' Chappell Roan Finally Releases Long-Awaited Ballad 'The Subway' Mariah the Scientist Taps Kali Uchis for Ultimate R&B Queen Link-Up She adds: 'I'm a very complex individual, and it's because I've lived so many lives. So, because I've been placed in so many environments, it's produced a woman who can do a lot of things organically, naturally.' The sexy video cuts between clips that show Saweetie's different sides — from getting her hair done in a small restroom to posing with an exotic doggo in front of a billion-dollar mansion. Other moments show her snacking on Hot Cheetos with the help of chopsticks, but also trying some butler-served oysters. She adds a taste of the Bay Area with clips of a dancer showing off his hyphy dance moves. 'My hair, nails? Both of 'em/Lady or a pimp? Both of 'em/You want the steak or the shrimp? Both of 'em,' she raps. 'Rapper, athlete, I need both of 'em/Don't you ask me, just get both of 'em.' Saweetie says that 'Boffum' has been one of her best-received tracks by her fans at live shows. 'It's made me really proud to get those reactions,' she says. 'It feels right, and it feels like I'm doing something for the culture.' 'Boffum' is featured on her new EP, Hella Pressure, which includes songs such as 'Twinzz,' the opening track 'Pressure,' and 'Superstars,' alongside K-pop group Twice. Hayley Williams Premieres 17 New Songs on Website Audio Player
Hayley Williams is heading back to the days of desktop files and scattered downloads. The musician kicked off the week with a surprise release containing 17 new songs. The project plays through an audio player on her official website and is only accessible with a special code available by purchasing the latest drop from her haircare company, Good Dye Young. 'Check your inbox for an email from Good Dye Young,' the website landing page reads. 'If you don't have an email with a code, maybe ask a friend for theirs.' The drop, for a bold marigold yellow semi-permanent dye called 'Ego,' is limited to only 2,000 cartons signed by Williams and co-founders Brian O'Connor. The songs aren't arranged in any particular order, in true randomized audio file fashion. Among them appears 'Mirtazapine,' the single Williams premiered this past Tuesday night on the Nashville radio station WNXP. The station posted the news on X along with a video of a CD that listed two song titles: 'Mirtazapine' and 'Glum,' which is also available on the site. Fans have already started reacting to the album on social media. 'If anyone could inject the new Hayley Williams songs into my veins rn I would be eternally grateful,' one fan wrote on X, where another added: 'Hayley Williams welcome to my AOTY club.' Listeners in the exclusive bubble have already dubbed 'Kill Me' an 'eldest daughter anthem,' highlighting the fearless hook: 'Go ahead and kill me/Can't get much stronger/Find another solider.' Other favorites seemingly include 'Blood Bros,' 'Hard,' 'Dream Girl in Shibuya,' 'Love Me Different,' and 'True Believer.' The cryptic drop marks the first lead solo release from Williams since sharing Flowers for Vases/Descansos in 2021. She recently lent vocals to Turnstile's 'Seein' Stars' from Never Enough and collaborated with Moses Sumney on 'I Like It I Like It' in May. In 2023, Paramore released their sixth album, This Is Why. 'Making This Is Why was not a comfortable experience for any of us. There was already anxiety about getting back in the groove of creating stuff together after some time apart,' Williams told Rolling Stone later that year. 'It's scary shit but, again, I think being able to sit with any type of discomfort is only going to teach you things. It's only going to grow you. That's the thing I'm most sure of.' Demi Lovato Speeds Into Her Electro-Pop Era With ‘Fast'
Demi Lovato's stellar album rollout is on speed drive! On Friday, the pop singer released her single 'Fast,' the first release off her long-awaited electro-pop album, expected later this year. 'I wanna go/I wanna go fast, I wanna go hard/I wanna go anywhere, anywhere you are,' Lovato repeats in the ear candy chorus. The Daniel Sachon-directed video features the singer walking slick city streets as she belts out the new track. More from Rolling Stone Why Choose One? Saweetie Wants 'Boffum' in Hyphy New Video Chappell Roan Finally Releases Long-Awaited Ballad 'The Subway' Mariah the Scientist Taps Kali Uchis for Ultimate R&B Queen Link-Up Last week, Rolling Stone broke the news that the singer was finishing a dance-pop record, executive-produced by Zhone. It's her comeback to the genre after a pair of records (Holy Fvck and Revamped) completely in the rock space. 'It's been so inspiring working with Demi and experiencing her journey of continued leveling up,' Zhone told Rolling Stone about the album. 'She is such a master in the studio. This album is about letting inhibitions go, and we had so much fun making this music! It really comes across throughout.' In the days leading up to the single, Lovato has been engaging with fans by leaning into internet memes about her from the past few years, including a fan meet-up at the Big Chill, the frozen yogurt shop she called out several years ago. At the time, she faced backlash for criticizing the small business, but now she teamed up with the froyo biz to play the new single for fans. Lovato has been sharing snippets from the new single, which will kick off a new era for the star. She announced it earlier this week. 'Over the past few years, Demi has found love, joy, and newfound confidence, making the choice to approach life with much more lightness and fun,' a source told Rolling Stone. 'She took this sentiment into the studio, which can be felt in every track.'
