'Your son is stupid as hell': Tutor who fails to get loan from student's dad
In response, the tutor told the man that "your son is stupid as hell" and "only God can teach him".
According to the netizen Justin Lee, who on May 2 highlighted the incident in the Facebook group Complaint Singapore, his cousin had one lesson with his tutor whose tutoring service was found online in late-April.
Mr Lee shared screengrabs of the exchange between his uncle and the tutor.
The tutor had asked Mr Lee's uncle for payment for the one lesson that was completed as well as an advance for the next three lessons.
He was charging $60 per lesson. In total, he asked Mr Lee's uncle for a payment of $180. The tutor also asked for a $500 loan on top of the $180.
"It will be a great help as my mum is in the ICU because of leukaemia," wrote the tutor.
Mr Lee's uncle replied: "I am sorry to hear that but I don't think it's right to do this."
Despite the reluctance from his student's dad, the tutor pressed on. "Are you able to lend me $500? I will repay you by giving lessons."
When Mr Lee's uncle refused to pay an advance or give a loan, the tutor told him to "look for another tutor".
Mr Lee's uncle relented and wrote "you can go teach someone who will lend you money", to which the tutor replied: "Sure, your son is stupid as hell. Only God can teach him."
Netizens advise Mr Lee to file a report with the police or Ministry of Education.
A Facebook user going by the name Hey, who claimed to be a friend of the tutor's, commented: "When I first saw the post, I was shocked and appalled.
"But upon closer inspection of the messages, there seems to be something weird going on. The messages look fabricated (time stamps are wrong, his name at the top was cut off and the 'online' status doesn't even look the correct font).
"Furthermore, the typing style seems the same between the two people in the chat (sometimes there's space before and after a comma)."
Hey added that his friend was not the sort to display this sort of behaviour.
Another netizen pointed out that the exchange between the tutor and the student looked fake, highlighting the timestamp of the second message from the tutor showing to be three minutes before the message from the student.

At least 1 dead after fire in Jalan Bukit Merah flat, about 60 evacuated

SINGAPORE – At least one person has died after a fire broke out in a Bukit Merah flat on Aug 13. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in an evening Facebook post that it responded to the fire at Block 106 in Jalan Bukit Merah at about 4pm. When firefighters arrived at the scene, the living room and bedroom of a unit on the fourth floor were in flames, with SCDF personnel making use of a water jet to extinguish the blaze. In the midst of putting out the blaze, firefighters found two people in the kitchen. Both were unconscious and taken to Singapore General Hospital. The Straits Times understands one of them has died. ST has contacted the police for more information. Another two people from neighbouring units were also taken to the same hospital – one felt unwell while the other suffered from smoke inhalation. In total, about 60 people from the affected block were evacuated as a precautionary measure. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Georgetown Man Convicted of Killing Ex-Girlfriend, Best Friend Who Started Dating Her After Their Break-Up
A Georgetown man will spend the rest of his life behind bars without the possibility of parole after a juryfound him guilty of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend and his best friend in a jealous fit of rage on July 22, 2022. On Monday, a jury found 45-year-old Ronnie Todd Jr. guilty of shooting and killing his 30-year-old ex-girlfriend Emily Richitelli and his 44-year-old friend John Ashley Altman at the latter's home. Todd Described as a Jealous Ex Who Tracked Emily's Whereabouts During Todd's trial, prosecutors argued that he was a disgruntled former boyfriend who didn't like Richitelli seeing other men. They described him tracking her whereabouts, telling his friends he wanted to commit murder and sending threatening text messages to Richitelli a few weeks before she was killed. As evidence, prosecutors presented Todd's own text messages where he threatened violence, gunshot residue on his car and hands, what they believe is the murder weapon and a witness placing him at the scene. The jury deliberated the case for just about an hour before coming back with their guilty decision. Todd Warned Richitelli Against Seeing Any of His Friends, Told Her it Would be 'Very Bad for All Involved' Before the shooting, Todd sent Facebook messages on July 14, 2022, in which he wrote how he knew Richitelli was spending time with one of his friends. He wrote that he wanted to shoot Richitelli "100 percent," according to screenshots read aloud by prosecutor Scott Hixson. "About to kill one of our family and not going to give a (expletive)," one message stated. "It's one of our friends and I'm killing some people when I get her. No doubt about that." A few weeks before the shooting, Todd sent threatening text messages to Richitelli because he was upset she didn't want to date him anymore. He expressed anger that she was spending time with someone else, according to court testimony. Richitelli seeing any of his friends, he wrote, would be "very bad for all involved." "I'm really on the edge of doing something crazy," his text read. "And I don't want to, because it's going to be forever." "He told them he was going to blow their brains out," Hixson said in his closing argument, referring to Todd messaging Richitelli and Altman. Altman's Son was Inside the House at the Time of the Shooting, Identified the Shooter as 'Uncle Ron' Altman Jr., who was 9 years old when his father died, said he was playing a game on his cellphone in the bathroom when he heard his father and Richitelli get shot. Altman Jr. said he hid in the bathroom for several minutes before coming out. After checking on his father, the boy ran to his neighbor's house to call 911. Altman Jr. testified that before the shooting he heard Richitelli scream then his father yell, "Ron, Ron, Ron!" The boy's father and Todd had been close friends. Surveillance Footage Showed Todd Loading Weapons into His Truck Shortly Before the Murders The prosecution also introduced surveillance footage from Todd's property that showed him carrying a rifle and a handgun to his truck around 11 p.m. on the night of the murders. Todd could be seen leaving in his truck and turning left in the direction of Altman's house around 11:20 p.m. He later returned to the house just a few minutes after the 911 call was placed shortly after midnight. Todd was sentenced to life in prison for both charges, with the sentences running concurrently. He will not have the possibility of parole.
