'Your son is stupid as hell': Tutor who fails to get loan from student's dad

New Paper04-05-2025
A tutor recently asked his student's father for advance payment and loan but was turned down.
In response, the tutor told the man that "your son is stupid as hell" and "only God can teach him".
According to the netizen Justin Lee, who on May 2 highlighted the incident in the Facebook group Complaint Singapore, his cousin had one lesson with his tutor whose tutoring service was found online in late-April.
Mr Lee shared screengrabs of the exchange between his uncle and the tutor.
The tutor had asked Mr Lee's uncle for payment for the one lesson that was completed as well as an advance for the next three lessons.
He was charging $60 per lesson. In total, he asked Mr Lee's uncle for a payment of $180. The tutor also asked for a $500 loan on top of the $180.
"It will be a great help as my mum is in the ICU because of leukaemia," wrote the tutor.
Mr Lee's uncle replied: "I am sorry to hear that but I don't think it's right to do this."
Despite the reluctance from his student's dad, the tutor pressed on. "Are you able to lend me $500? I will repay you by giving lessons."
When Mr Lee's uncle refused to pay an advance or give a loan, the tutor told him to "look for another tutor".
Mr Lee's uncle relented and wrote "you can go teach someone who will lend you money", to which the tutor replied: "Sure, your son is stupid as hell. Only God can teach him."
Netizens advise Mr Lee to file a report with the police or Ministry of Education.
A Facebook user going by the name Hey, who claimed to be a friend of the tutor's, commented: "When I first saw the post, I was shocked and appalled.
"But upon closer inspection of the messages, there seems to be something weird going on. The messages look fabricated (time stamps are wrong, his name at the top was cut off and the 'online' status doesn't even look the correct font).
"Furthermore, the typing style seems the same between the two people in the chat (sometimes there's space before and after a comma)."
Hey added that his friend was not the sort to display this sort of behaviour.
Another netizen pointed out that the exchange between the tutor and the student looked fake, highlighting the timestamp of the second message from the tutor showing to be three minutes before the message from the student.
The New Paper has reached out to Mr Lee to verify his account of events.

Wildfires fanned by heatwave and strong winds rage across Europe, burning houses and factories

Flames and dark smoke billowed over a cement factory that was set alight by a wildfire that swept through olive groves and forests and disrupted rail traffic on the outskirts of the Greek city of Patras, in the northern Peloponnese west of Athens. "What does it look like? It looks like doomsday. May God help us and help the people here,' said Giorgos Karvanis, a volunteer who had come from Athens to Patras to help. Authorities ordered residents of a town of about 7,700 people near Patras to evacuate on Tuesday and issued new alerts on Wednesday, advising residents of two nearby villages to leave their homes. On the Greek islands of Chios, in the east, and Cephalonia, in the west, both popular with tourists, authorities told people to move to safety as fires spread. In Spain, a volunteer firefighter died from severe burns and several people were hospitalised as state weather agency AEMET warned that almost all of the country was at extreme or very high risk of fire. The 35-year-old man had been attempting to create firebreaks near the town of Nogarejas, in the central Castile and Leon region, when he was trapped in the blaze, regional officials said. Other victims include two firefighters in Tarragona and Avila, according to emergency services. Working in unprepared landscapes puts firefighters lives at risk, said said Alexander Held, a senior expert in fire management at the European Forest Institute. Authorities needed to make more effort to anticipate and prevent wildfires by creating buffer zones and clearing combustible vegetation, he said. "Take an industrial building and imagine there would be no fire detectors, no sprinkler systems, no fire protection doors and no escape routes – firefighters would just refuse to go in, but in our landscape we expect them to do this," Held said. The leader of the Galicia region in the northwest, Alfonso Rueda, called the situation there "complicated" and said the weather was not helping. Six active fires were affecting a combined 10,000 hectares (38 square miles) in Galicia's Ourense province. SUSPECTED ARSON Spanish Environment Minister Sara Aagesen told SER radio station that many fires across the country were suspected to be intentionally caused by arsonists due to their "virulence". A male firefighter was arrested on Tuesday for fires started in the Avila area north of Madrid two weeks ago, while police said late on Tuesday they were investigating a 63-year-old woman for allegedly starting a series of fires in Galicia's Muxia area in August. Police have also identified a suspect who is believed to have suffered burns to his hands after starting a small fire in a beachfront development in the southern coastal Cadiz area, Europa Press reported. Thunderstorms have caused other fires. On Tuesday, shortly after 5 p.m., Andalucia's fire department was flooded with calls by residents alerting of a fire caused by a lightning strike on a chestnut and oak forest in Los Romeros, north of the city of Huelva. The fire prompted the evacuation of around 250 residents but was largely controlled by Wednesday morning. A blaze in Trancoso in Portugal that has been burning since Saturday took a turn for the worse during the night as a lightning reignited an area that was thought safe, the civil protection service said. In Albania, Defence Minister Pirro Vengu said it was a "critical week", with several major wildfires burning across the country. Some 10,000 firefighters, soldiers and police emergency units struggled with a total of 24 wildfires across the country on Wednesday, the defence ministry said. Flames reached homes in two villages in the centre of the country, forcing villagers to flee, taking their livestock with them. "We are going in the middle of two rivers because the fire has arrived," said Hajri Dragoti, 68, from Narte, who fled with his wife taking a cow, a donkey and a dog. "We can't do anything, it is like gun powder." Spain was in its 10th day of a heatwave that peaked on Tuesday with temperatures as high as 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit), and which AEMET expected to last until Monday, making it one of the longest on record. Pope Leo moved his weekly audience from St. Peter's Square to an indoor venue in the Vatican, "to stay a little bit out of the sun and the extreme heat" as Italy's health ministry issued extreme heat warnings for 16 cities on Wednesday, with temperatures forecast to peak at 39C (102F) in Florence. Georgetown Man Convicted of Killing Ex-Girlfriend, Best Friend Who Started Dating Her After Their Break-Up

A Georgetown man will spend the rest of his life behind bars without the possibility of parole after a juryfound him guilty of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend and his best friend in a jealous fit of rage on July 22, 2022. On Monday, a jury found 45-year-old Ronnie Todd Jr. guilty of shooting and killing his 30-year-old ex-girlfriend Emily Richitelli and his 44-year-old friend John Ashley Altman at the latter's home. Todd Described as a Jealous Ex Who Tracked Emily's Whereabouts During Todd's trial, prosecutors argued that he was a disgruntled former boyfriend who didn't like Richitelli seeing other men. They described him tracking her whereabouts, telling his friends he wanted to commit murder and sending threatening text messages to Richitelli a few weeks before she was killed. As evidence, prosecutors presented Todd's own text messages where he threatened violence, gunshot residue on his car and hands, what they believe is the murder weapon and a witness placing him at the scene. The jury deliberated the case for just about an hour before coming back with their guilty decision. Todd Warned Richitelli Against Seeing Any of His Friends, Told Her it Would be 'Very Bad for All Involved' Before the shooting, Todd sent Facebook messages on July 14, 2022, in which he wrote how he knew Richitelli was spending time with one of his friends. He wrote that he wanted to shoot Richitelli "100 percent," according to screenshots read aloud by prosecutor Scott Hixson. "About to kill one of our family and not going to give a (expletive)," one message stated. "It's one of our friends and I'm killing some people when I get her. No doubt about that." A few weeks before the shooting, Todd sent threatening text messages to Richitelli because he was upset she didn't want to date him anymore. He expressed anger that she was spending time with someone else, according to court testimony. Richitelli seeing any of his friends, he wrote, would be "very bad for all involved." "I'm really on the edge of doing something crazy," his text read. "And I don't want to, because it's going to be forever." "He told them he was going to blow their brains out," Hixson said in his closing argument, referring to Todd messaging Richitelli and Altman. Altman's Son was Inside the House at the Time of the Shooting, Identified the Shooter as 'Uncle Ron' Altman Jr., who was 9 years old when his father died, said he was playing a game on his cellphone in the bathroom when he heard his father and Richitelli get shot. Altman Jr. said he hid in the bathroom for several minutes before coming out. After checking on his father, the boy ran to his neighbor's house to call 911. Altman Jr. testified that before the shooting he heard Richitelli scream then his father yell, "Ron, Ron, Ron!" The boy's father and Todd had been close friends. Surveillance Footage Showed Todd Loading Weapons into His Truck Shortly Before the Murders The prosecution also introduced surveillance footage from Todd's property that showed him carrying a rifle and a handgun to his truck around 11 p.m. on the night of the murders. Todd could be seen leaving in his truck and turning left in the direction of Altman's house around 11:20 p.m. He later returned to the house just a few minutes after the 911 call was placed shortly after midnight. Todd was sentenced to life in prison for both charges, with the sentences running concurrently. He will not have the possibility of parole.
