Isak DROPPED
In a development that should shock absolutely no one, Alexander Isak has been left out of the Newcastle team to play Aston Villa.
The striker is trying to force a move out of the club this summer and continues to be linked with Liverpool.
Not clear exactly who will be starting centrally for Eddie Howe, but he's gone for a front three of Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes and new boy Anthony Elanga.

We're back!
Here we go for another season of Premier League football!
We kicked-off last night with an absolute thriller at Anfield as Bournemouth fought back against Liverpool after being two goals down.
But with the match seemingly heading for a draw, the Reds scored two late goals to earn a stunning win.
The match, which was also marred by a racist incident, also saw an outpouring of emotion from Liverpool fans in their first league home match since the tragic death of Diogo Jota.
Today, we have five matches lined up with all the goals, action and controversy coming directly in this blog as it happens.
First, we start with a clash of heavyweights at Villa Park between Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
The team news has just been released and there's already a bit of drama…

The reason Ben Doak could still land Celtic millions despite Hoops making nothing from £25m Bournemouth transfer

Celtic may still have reason to keep close tabs on how Doak develops at Bournemouth Ben Doak is on the verge of a £25m move to Bournemouth – and while Celtic don't stand to make anything from his initial move, a little known FIFA rule may still pay out in the future. ‌ The former Celtic winger joined Liverpool in 2022 after his contract at Parkhead expired, with the Reds paying around £600,000 in training compensation to take him to the Premier League. ‌ Since that was technically a free transfer with no deal agreed between the clubs, Celtic don't have a sell-on clause inserted in his contract. ‌ That means his imminent move to Bournemouth, which comes after just 10 appearances for the Merseyside giants, won't pay out in the same way that Jeremie Frimpong's money-spinning move to Anfield did. But that's not quite the end of the story. As part of FIFA and UEFA's training compensation system, five per cent of any transfer fee for international moves before a player turns 23 must be set aside and divvied out between clubs who played a role in their training and development from the ages of 12 to 23. But, per UEFA rules, that only applies when a player moves from one association to another. Were Doak to have followed in the footsteps of the international teammates Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour, for instance, and moved to Italy, then £1.25m of that fee would have been earmarked to be split between Celtic and Middlesbrough, where Doak spent time on loan last season. The Hoops, since they were responsible for seven years of his eligible training, would have taken the lion's share of that. Should Doak go on to leave England for a move abroad, before he turns 23 in November 2028, then the Hoops, along with Liverpool and Middlesbrough, will be due a cut. But until that happens, any Celtic interest in Doak's career is strictly sentimental as one of their own makes a name for himself in the Premier League.

Arsenal urged to lower transfer demands for Fabio Vieira as they look to axe huge chunk of deadwood to fund summer spree

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) ARSENAL have been told to lower their demands for Fabio Vieira as they attempt to offload several players before the end of the transfer window. The Gunners have spent around £200million on new signings this summer, including £63.5m on Viktor Gyokeres, £51m on Martin Zubimendi and £42m on Noni Madueke. 5 Fabio Vieira is one of several Arsenal players who want to leave the club this summer Credit: Getty 5 He was signed from Porto for £30million in 2022 but has never really been a mainstay Credit: Getty 5 Mikel Arteta is aware he has to get some players out of the door before the window shuts Credit: Reuters They remain interested in more arrivals, with Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze still a target despite his links to Tottenham. However, despite having a lot of headroom regarding PSR regulations, they are tight on Uefa Financial Fair Play rules. Several fringe players will need to be sold to rectify this, and Portuguese midfielder Vieira has been lined up as one of those. The 25-year-old has fallen out of favour under boss Mikel Arteta, shipped out on loan to Porto last season – the club they bought him from in the summer of 2023 for around £30m. Vieira is back training at London Colney but was omitted from the squad that secured a 1-0 Prem opening day victory at Manchester United on Sunday. Arsenal want to recoup as much of that £30m as possible, but that is proving a tough task in this window, even after dropping their demands to around £25m. Porto president Andre Villas Boas was in touch with the North Londoners over a permanent return for Vieira earlier this summer after making 42 appearances in all competitions last term, but they are not in a financial position to give Arsenal what they want. Bundesliga side Stuttgart are also monitoring the situation. They are eyeing Vieira as a replacement for 23-year-old Frenchman Enzo Millot, who has recently joined Saudi side Al-Ahli for around £24m, which could rise to £26m with add-ons. BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK SunSport understands that the Germans would only be willing to pay around £17m including add-ons for Vieira. Arsenal are willing to hold out for the right price, but Stuttgart are prepared to move on to other targets should negotiations break down. Arsenal new-boy reveals how to pronounce name properly… and you've been saying it all wrong for years What did we learn about Arsenal in Man Utd victory? VIKTOR GYOKERES was given a reality check on his Arsenal debut as the £63.5million striker failed to have a shot against Manchester United. SunSport's Charlie Wyett assesses the Arsenal's Premier League opener... NEW SIGNINGS VIKTOR GYOKERES has room for improvement, putting it mildly. His last competitive game in this country was the 2023 Championship play-off final between Coventry and Derby and his Premier League debut will also be a day he will be keen to forget. He worked hard enough and did try and get in behind the United defence but the Swede was given little service in what was a poor performance from the title hopefuls. Gyokeres was decent in the Emirates Cup win over Athletic Bilbao which shows you exactly why we should never take too much from pre-season. Against Manchester United, the striker who is supposed to turn Arsenal into title winners, while admittedly getting very little service, failed to even have a shot. The £63.5million signing didn't contribute much to make up for his lack of threat up top either. For all he ran and tried to assert himself, Gyokores only managed to complete four passes to his new team-mates, while giving the ball away five times. Mikel Arteta is hoping the former Sporting Lisbon man can be the dominant presence that Arsenal have been missing up front. But here the 27-year-old won just three duels against United's unheralded defence, losing ten. SET-PIECES NEW season, new set-piece routine. Since the start of 2023-24, Arsenal have scored 31 Premier League goals from corners - at least 11 more than any other side. Although Arsenal's first goal of the season was thanks to Altay Bayindir's clanger, Arteta used a different type of routine. We had seen this a few times in pre-season with five players lining up on the edge of the penalty although the goal came from Riccardo Calafiori who was already lurking near the back post and was able to get the final touch. The one thing that might really hurt Arsenal offensively this season is the new clampdown on pushing and shoving in the penalty area, something they do a lot. Although both teams were guilty of grappling with opposing players, Simon Hooper let a few things go - but not all officials will be the same. NEXT UP - LEEDS ARTETA will have plenty to ponder before sending his team out to face newly-promoted Leeds at the Emirates on Saturday evening. Although battles against Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle are on the horizon in a nasty opening sequence of fixtures, Arsenal will be expected to deliver a much better performance than what we saw at Old Trafford, where they were incredibly lucky to win. This game will give Gyokeres a terrific chance to score his first goal in the Premier League. Equally, Zubimendi should keep his place although already, Gabriel Martinelli surely knows his place is under threat with Madueke itching to make an impression. Although he scored the winner, Calafiori kept going walkabout at left back leaving Gabriel Magalhaes exposed on the left of central defence. This is why Myles Lewis-Skelly, who will probably have been peed off in not starting this game, might be given a run-out against Daniel Farkes' team. 5 TRANSFER NEWS LIVE - KEEP UP WITH ALL THE LATEST FROM A BUSY SUMMER WINDOW Left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko has also been linked with a move away, recently admitting to feeling 'shame' in the 'worst season' of his professional career after being dropped by Arteta for Myles Lewis-Skelly last campaign, making just five Prem starts. Borussia Dortmund have previously been linked to the Ukrainian, while Fenerbahce and Real Betis have shown interest. Arsenal paid £32m including add-ons for Zinchenko from Manchester City in the summer of 2022, but are unlikely to get that fee back for the 28-year-old who has suffered injury issues during his Emirates stay so far. Arteta would love Zinchenko to stay on as an experienced head in the dressing room, offering depth to the left-back position, but he is currently third choice behind Lewis-Skelly and Riccardo Calafiori – the Italian starting and scoring the winner against United. Zinchenko was also left out of the squad that travelled to Old Trafford with his future up in the air, and the same can be said for Polish centre back Jakub Kiwior. 5 Arsenal believe the time could be right to cash in on Kiwior, whose stock has never been higher after impressing when stepping in for the injured Gabriel in the latter stages of last term. The 25-year-old joined Arsenal from Spezia in January in a deal worth £20m including add-ons, and there is a belief they can sell him for a similar figure with AC Milan keeping tabs on the defender. Porto have also not given up hope on luring him to Portugal, despite already reinforcing their back line with the £6.5m arrival of Jan Bednarek from Southampton. Should Kiwior leave, it is unlikely Arteta will look for a centre back replacement given that they have already signed 21-year-old Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia for an up-front fee of around £13m with £3.5m in add-ons, while Calafiori can also fill in if needed. Winger Reiss Nelson and midfielder Albert Sambi Lokongo were also missing from the squad at United and work is being done to find them a new home too, but the pair are not expected to bring in significant fees.

Man Utd need to flog six forgotten stars to fund Gianluigi Donnarumma's wages after Bayindir howler against Arsenal

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) IT was the same old story for Manchester United against Arsenal on Sunday. The Red Devils, to their credit, played a team of supposed title challengers off the park at Old Trafford on their opening day. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 5 Gianluigi Donnarumma should be the top of Man Utd's transfer list for the rest of the window Credit: Getty 5 Altay Bayindir showed he is not currently a reliable option after his game-deciding clanger against Arsenal Credit: Getty 5 Andre Onana is also very inconsistent, as could be on the move as revealed by SunSport Credit: PA 5 If United can flog six of their outcasts, they could free up the room to land one of the market's best goalkeepers Credit: Rex However, weak goalkeeping from Altay Bayindir from a corner that allowed Riccardo Calafiori to nod home at the far post proved decisive in the result of the match. The attacking aspect of United's play was much improved compared to last season, with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha looking particularly impressive. But a stoic defensive display from Arsenal - the team with the best defensive record in the Premier League last season - ultimately left Ruben Amorim's side frustrated. Ironically it was the display of Gunners shot-stopper David Raya that showed why United transfer chiefs should be going all-in to try and sign a new goalie as his Man of the Match display allowed Mikel Arteta's side to escape with three points. READ MORE IN FOOTBALL VAR YOU SURE Jamie Vardy has 'heart set' on Brendan Rodgers reunion at Celtic The most notable name available on the market for United is Paris Saint-Germain's Gianluigi Donnarumma. Reports suggest Donnarumma, who has been cast out from the French club by Luis Enrique, is available for around £40million, but wants a 50 per cent rise on his current £210,000 per week wages. United sources have categorically denied any interest in the Italian, who was in net during PSG's epic run to their first-ever Champions League victory last season, but that is a head-scratching decision given what was seen by fans at the weekend. The 26-year-old enjoyed a particularly good game in the two semi-final legs against Arsenal, while England fans are more than familiar with his big-game prowess thanks to his saves in the shootout of the Euro 2020 final. BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK Following United distancing themselves from any deal, Donnarumma has been linked to cross-town rivals Manchester City, though those talks are tentative at this stage. After splashing £200m on a new-look attack - including Benjamin Sesko who started on the bench against Arsenal - United are now in sale mode. He's taking lessons from Mikel Arteta' joke fans as Ruben Amorim makes VERY bold claim after Man Utd's loss to Arsenal They are yet to find buyers for any of their bomb squad, with only Marcus Rashford departing on loan to Barcelona. It goes without saying that United need to sell mega-money flops Antony and Jadon Sancho, while Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia also do not have a future at the club. However, the arrival of Sesko - and his total omission from the United squad against Arsenal - indicates Rasmus Hojlund's future lay away from the club. The same could be said for Andre Onana, despite Amorim's insistence that he is "happy" with his current selection of three goalkeepers including Bayindir and Tom Heaton. Onana, 29, missed all of pre-season with a hamstring injury two days after returning to training, but managed to be available for selection for the Premier League opener. What did we learn about Man Utd in Arsenal defeat? MANCHESTER UNITED have splashed the cash this summer but that couldn't prevent an opening day home loss to Arsenal. Here are SunSport Manchester United reporter Martin Blackburn's key takeaways from the narrow 1-0 defeat vs the Gunners. No 1 ISSUE UNITED have been linked with Gianluigi Donnarumma and David de Gea in recent weeks, and surely they will sign a keeper before the window shuts. Ruben Amorim has faith in Andre Onana — even if a lot of the fans do not — but he did not consider him ready to start here. The Cameroonian has missed the whole of pre-season with a hamstring injury. So Altay Bayindir, who has played throughout the build-up to the season, got the nod — and ended up costing his team the game. He should have been stronger under pressure from William Saliba and flapped a corner on to the head of Riccardo Calafiori. Bayindir has had problems with set-pieces before. Amorim and sporting director Jason Wilcox have two weeks to come up with a solution before the end of the transfer window. NO GOALS — AGAIN UNITED mustered just 44 goals in the Prem last season — and here they were starting with a blank again. The Red Devils have spent £200million sprucing up their forward line this summer, and there were encouraging signs from Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. But new £74m centre-forward Benjamin Sesko stayed on the bench until the 65th minute. On a couple of occasions before then there were crosses into the box but nobody there to put them away. Amorim said on Friday he believes Sesko can be United's No 9 for many years to come — and that is why they spent so heavily on him. So it seemed a strange call to leave him on the bench for so long. Clearly the fans agreed as he was given a huge ovation when he arrived. A couple of late half-chances went begging but the Slovenian did enough to show he will be a threat. MIDFIELD STILL AN ISSUE UNITED have abandoned their bid to land Carlos Baleba at least until next summer because of Brighton's asking price. There is an interest in Sporting's Morten Hjulmand, while United are one of several clubs who admire Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace. But there is a chance they will not sign another outfield player, and fans will be worried about the options in midfield. Casemiro was excellent in Europe last season but did not have the same impact in Prem matches, while we are still waiting to see the best of Manuel Ugarte. United are going to be more exciting to watch this season — that is clear already — but will they still have a soft centre? Amorim decided against naming him in the squad, but said: "I didn't drop Onana from the squad. I didn't drop one of the other two from the squad. "It is not putting Andre Onana with just one week, without seeing a game, without time training... "We prove today that we can win any game in the Premier League especially against team like Arsenal. I'm happy with the players. I'm happy with the three goalkeepers." However, the sale of those six aforementioned stars could be what gives the club the financial wriggle room to move for Donnarumma. Between them, these six players earn £685,000 a week, meaning that successfully shifting them would free up around double what is needed for Donnarumma's desired wage. 5 SunSport has exclusively revealed that Inter Milan are considering a shock swoop to bring Onana back to the San Siro. Meanwhile, Chelsea are interested in a deal to sign Garnacho - who United want at least £50m for - but have seen a deal stalled due to their high valuation of Christopher Nkunku. Sancho is waiting for other clubs to submit proposals before the end of the window after he turned down AS Roma, while Hojlund is also being monitored by AC Milan and Newcastle. Following a successful loan spell at Real Betis last season, clubs are keeping tabs on Antony, with Betis and clubs in Saudi Arabia being linked with a move. Of course, United will look to whittle down any Donnarumma deal to a number to match their wage structure, but in terms of wishful thinking for the Red Devils faithful it may free up more funds as they eye a new midfielder. With Brighton's £100m+ rated Carlos Baleba no longer on the table, SunSport looked at five alternative targets who are similar to the 21-year-old. These options include Sporting Lisbon's Morten Hjulmand, who United could turn their attention to this window, as exclusively revealed by SunSport last week. League games against Fulham and Burnley are now must-win for United before the first international break, while beating Grimsby in the League Cup second round will also be an important step in the right direction.
