Technical view
The Religare analyst has identified XX factors that could impact movement in domestic copper prices:
The recent pullback found support near the trend-following averages (20 and 50 EMA).
The formation of higher highs and higher lows indicates that the broader bullish structure remains intact despite short-term volatility.
However, prices are currently facing mild resistance and have pulled back from the Rs 905 level, suggesting some profit-taking or consolidation.

MCX copper prices jumped nearly 13% to hit the day's high of Rs 901.75 in the opening trade on Wednesday tracking prices in the US. President Donald Trump's announcement of a 50% tariff on the copper imported in the US, fired-up the local prices which jumped 10% on Tuesday. The price of July copper contracts stablised within minutes after the opening though traded with an uptick. Around 9:10 am, the copper futures were trading at Rs 895.45 per kg, gaining by Rs 4.95 or 0.6% over the last closing.Though the timing of the tariff implementation is unclear, the US President on Tuesday extended the payment deadline to August 1. It was to end today.Copper prices in the United States jumped more than 10% to a record high above $12,330 per metric ton according to a Reuters report.Commenting on the current action, Ajit Mishra, Senior Vice President - Research at Religare Broking said that the copper prices on the London Metal Exchange and Shanghai Futures Exchange are trading near their highest levels since late March, supported by concerns over tight regional supply and increased shipments to the U.S. as traders move to preempt potential import tariffs.'LME-registered copper inventories remain close to their lowest levels since August 2023, despite a minor rebound over the past two days. Available stocks have plunged by 76% since mid-February, driven by accelerated cargo movements to the U.S. amid an ongoing investigation into copper imports and the threat of new tariffs,' he said.Mishra said that copper prices on the MCX have shown resilience after witnessing a sharp decline from the recent swing high of Rs 917.25 to the low of Rs 789.65.'Post this corrective phase, the metal has staged a steady recovery, respecting the key support of the 200-period moving average, which is acting as a dynamic cushion for prices. The current price action shows copper hovering around Rs 890, slightly above the moving averages,' he said.A sustained move above Rs 900–905 will open the gates for a retest of the previous high near Rs 917, while on the downside Rs 875–880 remains a strong support zone.Traders can adopt a buy-on-dips strategy as long as prices sustain above Rs 875, with positional targets of Rs 917 and Rs 935, suggests Mishra. A strict stop loss should be maintained below Rs 860 to manage risk, he recommended.: Recommendations, suggestions, views and opinions given by the experts are their own. UP: Daily wages of farm workers hiked to Rs 252, lakhs of rural workers to benefit

Lucknow: In a landmark decision that will empower and uplift agricultural workers in Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath on Thursday announced a revision in the minimum wage rates. The hike in wages is set to bring a smile to the faces of lakhs of rural families as the labourers engaged in various types of agricultural activities across the state will now receive a minimum daily wage of Rs 252, or Rs 6,552 per month. The revised wage structure is set to benefit lakhs of workers involved not only in traditional farming but also in allied sectors like animal husbandry, beekeeping, and poultry farming. The increase in daily/monthly remuneration will go a great deal in bridging the gaps between rising expenses and stagnant income. It will bring greater financial security to the farmers and will enable them to have a dignified standard of living. Sharing the information about the wage hike, the Labour and Employment Department Principal Secretary M.K. Shanmuga Sundaram said that the revised minimum wage will apply to all types of farming activities across Uttar Pradesh. This includes traditional farming, mushroom cultivation, and labour involved in transporting crops to markets. It also covers allied sectors like dairy farming, animal husbandry, beekeeping, poultry farming, and all related support work. The wages can be paid in cash, partly in cash, in kind (such as farm produce), or through digital modes. In no case, the wages go less than the latest prescribed rates. Notably, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has repeatedly emphasised protecting workers' rights as a top priority for his government. Earlier, the state had registered crores of unorganised workers through the e-Shram portal and connected them to government welfare schemes. By encouraging fair wages and digital payments, the government has further underlined its commitment to prioritising farmers' welfare.

US business activity rises; tariffs fuel inflation concerns

U.S. business activity accelerated in July, reaching its highest level since December, driven by a surge in the services sector. However, companies raised prices for goods and services, with many attributing the increases to tariffs. Despite the expansion, business sentiment remained downbeat due to concerns over tariffs and federal policy changes, potentially fueling inflation above the Fed's target. Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads U.S. business activity picked up in July, but companies asked higher prices for goods and services, supporting economists' views that inflation will accelerate in the second half of the year mainly because of tariffs on imports Despite the increase in activity this month, the survey from S&P Global on Thursday also showed sentiment among businesses remained downbeat, which it said "primarily reflected broad-based concerns over tariffs and cuts to state funding following recent federal government policy changes." Consumer prices increased by the most in five months in June, with solid rises in the costs of tariff-exposed goods like household furnishings and supplies, appliances, sporting goods and toys, signaling that President Donald Trump's broad import duties were starting to have an impact on inflation. S&P Global's flash U.S. Composite PMI Output Index, which tracks the manufacturing and services sectors, increased to 54.6 this month, the highest level since December, from 52.9 in June. A reading above 50 indicates expansion in the private sector. The improvement came from the services sector, where the flash PMI surged to 55.2 from 52.9 in June. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast the services PMI inching up to 53.0. The survey's flash manufacturing PMI dropped to 49.5, the first contraction since December, from 52.9 in received a bump from front-loading of activity ahead of tariffs as well as from the protectionist nature of the duties. But S&P Global noted that "any protectionist benefits of import tariffs were often outweighed by concerns over higher prices and rising costs." Economists polled had forecast the manufacturing PMI easing to PRICES The survey's measure of prices paid by businesses for inputs edged up to 61.9 from 61.2 in June. The price gauge for services inputs jumped to 61.4 from 59.7 in the pace of price rises for manufacturing inputs slowed, nearly two-thirds of manufacturers in the survey reporting higher costs attributed those to tariffs. The survey's measure of prices charged by businesses for goods and services ticked up to 58.6 from 58.1 in June. The prices charged gauge for services increased to 58.2 from 57.2 in 40% of service providers reporting higher selling prices explicitly mentioned tariffs, while just under half of their counterparts in manufacturing blamed the import increase in business activity and elevated price gauges at face value argue against the Federal Reserve resuming interest rate cuts this month. Trump is demanding the U.S. central bank reduce borrowing costs, citing among others the struggling housing market. The Fed is expected to keep its benchmark overnight interest rate in the 4.25%-4.50% range, where it has been since December, when it meets later this month."The rise in selling prices for goods and services in July, which was one of the largest seen over the past three years, suggests that consumer price inflation will rise further above the Fed's 2% target in the coming months as these price hikes feed through to households," said Chris Williamson, chief business economist at S&P Global Market survey also suggested the labor market remained stable early in the third quarter, though factories shed orders received by businesses increased this month, though both goods and services exports declined. The weakness is likely because of trade tensions and the Trump administration's immigration crackdown. Data and anecdotal evidence have shown fewer tourists visiting this year.
