Bahrain and Qatar revive plans for landmark 40-kilometre causeway and sea link
The 40-kilometre causeway between Bahrain and Qatar, along with a proposed sea route, featured prominently in talks between Bahrain's Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, His Excellency Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, and Qatari Transport Minister, H.E. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani, who arrived with a delegation on an official visit.
Discussions took place at the ministry's headquarters and centred on road, rail, port and air links.
The two sides also exchanged technical knowledge on transport projects and agreed to form working groups to see them through.
Cooperation
Shaikh Abdulla said Bahrain, under the direction of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the Cabinet led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, was keen to deepen cooperation with Qatar and build on current projects through Gulfwide efforts.
According to both ministers, improving physical links between the countries could ease the movement of goods, people and vehicles, while helping trade and investment flow more easily.
The bridge and sea link are expected to support joint work in tourism, logistics and industry, as well as open up jobs.
Schemes
Both sides want the schemes to run alongside the Gulf rail network, which is being built in stages and is due to be finished by 2030.
The Bahrain–Qatar plans were described as a key piece of that puzzle.
The two ministers agreed on the need for better infrastructure, logistics facilities and transport links.
Action
They said the focus now is on putting those plans into action with proper follow-up.
Shaikh Mohammed said Qatar values its ties with Bahrain and is looking to expand work across ports, transport and digital tools.
He added that shared development projects would bring benefits to people across the Arabian Gulf.

Saudi Arabia will allow non-Saudi, non-resident foreigners to purchase property in the Kingdom using a digital identification system, following a Cabinet decision approved last week. The measure authorises the General Real Estate Authority, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority, the National Information Centre and other relevant agencies, to develop mechanisms for activating the digital ID ahead of the rollout of the Non-Saudi Real Estate Ownership Law. The Cabinet also endorsed a governance framework for non-Saudi property ownership and usufruct rights, as recommended by the Strategic Committee of the Council of Economic and Development Affairs. This includes the formation of a specialised committee within the authority's board to oversee the sector. As part of the changes, the General Real Estate Authority's board has been restructured, with its chief executive now serving as chairman, alongside members from several ministries and three representatives from the private sector. The new ownership law, approved in July, will take effect in January 2026. In August, the authority issued draft executive regulations requiring non-resident foreigners to obtain and activate a digital ID through the government's Absher platform, open a Saudi bank account, and secure a local contact number before acquiring or using property in the Kingdom. The move aims to streamline transactions, strengthen regulatory oversight, and attract more foreign investment into Saudi Arabia's real estate market.

Kuwait Plans Fee Hikes For 67 Services, Some Up 17-Fold
Kuwait's Ministry of Commerce and Industry has proposed introducing or raising charges for 67 services — many of which are currently free — with some fees set to surge more than 17 times. The plan, drafted in line with a Cabinet directive to review service pricing, would see company establishment applications, now free, cost KD20, including for non-profit firms. Fees would also apply to services such as amending a company's fiscal year, cancelling mortgages and commercial agencies, and providing brokerage for fish, fodder, livestock, vegetables, fruit, and poultry. Temporary commercial licences would face the steepest hikes: a licence for a real estate or temporary jewellery showroom would jump from KD30 to KD500. Other changes include a 25% rise for capital amendments, partner changes, dissolutions, trade name updates, and management clause modifications. Licences to practise accounting would increase from KD150 to KD200, while company licence renewals and board member certificates would also rise by 25%. Representation at general assemblies would cost KD125, up from KD100, and ration card fees would double from KD5 to KD10. Officials said the overhaul responds to service cost gaps, fee comparisons with other Gulf states, and charges unchanged for over 50 years.

UN slams Israel's killing of Gaza journalists
TDT | Geneva The UN human rights agency on Monday condemned Israel's targeted killing of six journalists in Gaza as a "grave breach of international humanitarian law". The office of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk said on X that the Israeli military had targeted a tent housing five staff from Qatari broadcaster Al Jazeera. A freelance journalist was also killed in Sunday's strike, which Israel has acknowledged was a planned operation.
