Himachal Monsoon Death Count Rises To 132, 432 Roads Remain Blocked
The death toll amid the relentless monsoon in Himachal Pradesh has risen to 132, with 74 deaths directly attributed to rain-related incidents and 58 caused by road accidents, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).
According to the report by SEOC, the rainfall has caused widespread disruption across the state, blocking 432 roads, disabling 534 power distribution transformers (DTRs), and affecting 197 water supply schemes.
The SEOC report paints a grim picture of mounting infrastructural distress. District Mandi remained the worst-hit with 260 roads blocked, while Kullu reported the highest number of disrupted DTRs at 123. Water supply disruptions were spread across several regions, with Kullu (44) and Chamba (57) being among the most affected.
National Highways have also taken a hit, with NH-02, NH-21, and NH-154 affected by landslides and road collapses.
Authorities continue to be on high alert, and emergency services are deployed for rapid clearance and restoration operations in the worst-affected areas.
Among the worst-hit districts are Mandi, which reported the highest number of rain-related deaths (16), followed by Kullu (8), and Kangra (16). Road conditions have deteriorated statewide, with major National Highways like NH-02, NH-21 (Mandi-Kullu road), and NH-154 (Mandi-Pathankot road) affected.
Damage assessment reports also reveal massive economic losses, with total damages across public infrastructure and private property estimated at over ₹1,24,690 lakh (₹1,246.9 crore), including agriculture, horticulture, health, education, and housing sectors.
Authorities are maintaining round-the-clock emergency response through the SEOC and are urging residents to avoid travel in vulnerable areas. Restoration work is ongoing amid difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions.
Meanwhile, on Monday, two people lost their lives in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, after a boulder hit a house amid heavy rain.
Ashwani, who is a Patwari, told ANI, "Due to the rain, a landslide occurred last night. As a result, a boulder fell on a house, and two people tragically died in the incident. Their bodies were recovered from the debris with the help of the police and taken to Chamba Hospital. The government also provided immediate relief to the victims. Currently, we are further assessing the danger in the area and preparing a report on the losses."

Uttarkashi Flash Floods: 1 Body Recovered, Over 60 Missing, Rescue Ops On
Dehradun: Rescuers retrieved one body from the rubble in flood-ravaged Dharali village, as the search for the missing resumed on Wednesday amid rain. Nearly half of the picturesque Dharali village was ravaged by flash floods on Tuesday afternoon. The village is the main stopover on the way to Gangotri, from where the Ganga originates, and is home to several hotels and home stays. Four deaths have so far been confirmed in the flash flood, which followed a cloudburst. Around 130 people have been evacuated to safety, officials said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to get an update on the situation and assured him of the Centre's assistance. Chief Minister Dhami held a meeting with officials at the State Emergency Operation Centre here to review the rescue efforts. He surveyed the flooded area in Dharali and Harsil from a helicopter. "The rescue work is apace. Teams from the army, ITBP, and SDRF have reached the spot. Around 70-80 people have been rescued... Debris has reached an army base. A road has been blocked. The DM and an SP rank officer are on their way to the spot. It's a challenging situation as it is still raining there," he told PTI Videos. Chief Minister Dhami said arrangements have been made for medicines and food, and 160 police personnel have been deployed, 10 of them senior and three SP-rank, to oversee the disbursement of ration. Three nodal officers have been appointed from the CM's office. "Every life matters to us," the chief minister said Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli, quoting the ITBP, said that one body was retrieved from the flash flood site. The Indian Army has kept its MI-17 and Chinook helicopters on standby to look for the stranded. They will take off only after the weather clears. At least 60 people are said to have gone missing, but the number is likely higher, as many had gathered for the Har Dudh fair in Dharali village when the tragedy struck. The missing include 11 soldiers, Defence spokesperson Lt Col Manish Shrivastava said. Colonel Harshvardhan, Commanding Officer of 14 Raj Rif, is leading the relief and rescue operations with a 150-soldier team. Despite its soldiers going missing and its base being hit, the team is working with full courage and determination, Mr Shrivastava said.

The monsoon season has taken a heavy toll on Himachal Pradesh, resulting in the deaths of 194 people and causing extensive damage across the state, according to a cumulative loss report issued by the Department of Revenue-DM Cell, Government of Himachal Pradesh. Covering the period from June 20 to August 5, 2025, the report highlights significant loss of life, widespread destruction of property, and severe impact on public infrastructure. Out of the 194 reported fatalities, 108 deaths occurred due to rain-related incidents, including landslides, flash floods, and drowning. The remaining 86 deaths were attributed to road accidents during this period. Kangra district recorded the highest number of rain-related casualties at 25, followed by Mandi with 23 deaths, and Kullu with 10. In addition to the livestock toll, the disaster has led to the death of 28,438 animals, including 22,827 cattle and poultry birds in July and 4,396 in August. Property damage across the state is extensive. As per official data, 579 houses have been destroyed while 1,741 houses suffered partial damage. Commercial losses include damage to 345 shops and 2,012 cowsheds. The total estimated monetary loss to public property stands at ₹1,85,251.98 lakh. This figure encompasses damages sustained by sectors such as public works, agriculture, horticulture, and others. Mandi district has reported the highest financial loss amounting to ₹1,160.94 lakh, followed by significant losses in Kangra and Kullu districts. To aid those affected, the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) continues to operate a 24/7 helpline at 1070 for assistance and support. Earlier in the day, data from the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) showed disruption in public utilities. As of 10:00 AM on August 6, a total of 613 roads, 1,491 distribution transformers (DTRs), and 265 water supply schemes were reported non-functional. This was an increase from the previous day's figures of 446 blocked roads, 360 disrupted DTRs, and 257 water supply scheme failures. Mandi remains the worst-hit district, with 375 blocked roads, including National Highways NH-21 and NH-003, along with 301 DTRs and 86 water supply schemes disrupted. Other severely impacted districts include Kullu, where 89 roads, including the NH-305, remain blocked and 457 Distribution Transformer Regions (DTRs) are disrupted; Solan, which has reported 29 blocked roads and 709 disrupted DTRs, along with the temporary closure of the Pandoga bridge on the Panjawar-Bathdi road due to heavy rain damage; Kangra, with 23 blocked roads and 120 DTRs out of service; and Chamba, where 18 roads are blocked, four DTRs are affected, and six water supply schemes have been disrupted. Restoration efforts are underway in affected areas. In Kullu, all disrupted irrigation and sewerage systems have been temporarily restored with emergency repairs. The Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA) continues to monitor the situation closely and has urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in vulnerable regions. For emergency assistance, the State Emergency Operations Centre continues to operate a 24/7 helpline.
