Smriti Irani recalls time when she had to prove miscarriage to Kyunki makers

India Today28-07-2025
Actor-politician Smriti Irani has never hesitated to speak candidly about her personal and professional hardships. Recently, the actress-turned-politician opened up about the difficulties - particularly her miscarriage - she faced during her time on 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' and her talk show 'Kuch Dil Se'.Appearing on YouTuber Raj Shamani's podcast, Smriti revealed that she resumed work just three days after giving birth to her son. 'My son was three days old when I returned to the set of 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi'. Why? Because audiences expected a new episode every evening at 10:30 pm,' she explained.advertisementShe also shared a heartbreaking account of continuing to film after suffering a miscarriage. While producer Ravi Chopra granted her a week's leave, Ektaa Kapoor couldn't allow extended time off due to the show's daily schedule. Smriti recounted, 'Someone from production went to Ektaa and said, 'We're ready to shoot, but Smriti Irani isn't coming. She's lying; nothing has happened to her.' So I had to return with my hospital documents to prove it had.'
At the height of her television career, Smriti was among the highest-paid actors, yet faced further setbacks. While hospitalised after giving birth, she was abruptly replaced on her SAB TV talk show, 'Kuch Dil Se', despite having pre-recorded enough episodes to cover a one-month maternity break.'I was working right up until the last day of my ninth month. I'd been asked to record a bank of 30 episodes and return after a month,' she recalled. In spite of her doctors' and family's concerns, she kept filming both shows to pay off her home loan more quickly. Then came the shocking news. 'I was in hospital after giving birth and received a message: 'You're fired.' I'd just filmed the previous day. They waited for me to be hospitalised before informing me. They used my pre-recorded episodes to ease in a replacement,' she said. Her response was composed. 'They brought in a film actor, more prominent, with a bigger public image. But the show was cancelled and never returned,' she added. Now, years later, Smriti Irani is set to return to the small screen with the new version of 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi'. The show premieres on StarPlus from July 29 and will also be available on JioHotstar.- EndsMust Watch

Kumkum Bhagya To Go Off Air Due To Low TRPs? Here's What We Know

Zee TV's Kumkum Bhagya, featuring Pranali Rathod and Namik Paul, will reportedly end next month due to low TRPs. The final episode airs on September 7, 2025. Zee TV's most popular show, Kumkum Bhagya, is reportedly going off air next month. Kumkum Bhagya started in 2014 with Sriti Jha and Shabir Ahluwalia as the main leads, and after multiple leaps and story changes, the show currently stars Pranali Rathod and Namik Paul as the fourth generation. But now, reports indicate that the makers have decided to end the show, considering poor TRPs. A source close to the development told IWMBUZZ, 'Kumkum Bhagya, which presently has Pranali Rathod, Namik Paul, and Akshay Bindra as the fourth-generation leads in the show, will soon go off air. The decision, apparently, has been made to end the long-running show. The show has been struggling with a drop in TRPs for some time now." While the officials are yet to confirm this news of the show going off air, it has been claimed in the report that the last episode of the family drama will air on September 7, 2025, marking the end of an 11-year journey of entertaining generations. While at first the plan wasn't to end the show, as per Gossips TV, when the makers of the show were offered a slot at 7 PM, the producer Ektaa Kapoor decided to reject the offer and instead took the decision to end it. Kumkum Bhagya began with Sriti Jha and Shabir Ahluwalia in the lead, followed by a generation leap that brought in Krishna Kaul and Mugdha Chaphekar. Later, Abrar Qazi and Rachi Sharma took over as leads, and currently, Pranali Rathod and Namik Paul headline the show. Now in its 11th year, Kumkum Bhagya stands as one of Indian television's longest-running shows. While reports hint that fans of Pranali and Namik may soon have to bid them goodbye, there has been no official confirmation about the show going off air. Meanwhile, talking about the show's producer, Ektaa Kapoor, recently made headlines as she rebooted the iconic show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, starring actor and politician Smriti Irani. The show, which aired on July 29, promises emotional drama, strong family ties, and new twists, while holding on to the legacy that made it unforgettable. Whether you are a long-time fan or a new viewer, this reboot promises something for everyone. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Tanisha said: "Tulsi, a plant that holds deep cultural and spiritual significance. It's believed to protect the home from negative influences and bring positive energy, happiness, and harmony. It represents devotion and is a reminder of spiritual values and traditions.' 'And it is one of the plants that I planted at my home after I shifted.."
