Woman suspected of decapitating newborn baby and leaving her dismembered in bin
Details of the crime first emerged last week when detectives launched an urgent appeal to find the mother.

On Tuesday Civil Guard officers in Madrid arrested a woman. Reports on Tuesday afternoon said police were searching her house in the working-class neighbourhood of Vallecas.
The suspect, who has been taken into custody, has not been named but has been described locally as a married Ecuadorean woman with children.
The police operation to snare the person responsible for the crime was launched on December 12th when a recycling centre worker in the small town of Loeches near the Spanish capital found the baby's remains in several plastic bags.

A specialist dog assisted cops in the investigations at the waste plant.
Tests revealed the little girl was born alive and decapitated with a knife before her body parts were stuffed into garbage bags.
Detectives were already working on the theory the newborn baby could have been of Latin American origin and her remains had reached the Loeches plant after being thrown into a container in the Vallecas neighbourhood close to the M-30 motorway.

The Civil Guard, as part of Operation Natal, last week asked for the public's help in identifying a woman they estimated to be aged around 40 who had been pregnant during the last months of last year.
A police spokesman said at the time: 'From the investigations carried out so far, it has been possible to determine that the remains would correspond to a female baby and that she was born alive.
'There are indications that would point to her death being of a violent nature.
'We are seeking the public's help in clarifying this criminal act and asking anyone who could have any information of interest to contact us.'

Liverpool said the club was 'devastated' by the news and that it was an 'unimaginable loss'. The Portuguese Football Federation also said it was 'devastated' to learn of the tragedy, adding: 'Their deaths represent irreparable losses for Portuguese football.' Police said no other vehicles were involved in the incident. As the football world mourns the passing of the popular forward, here's what is known about the accident that claimed his and his brother's lives. Police confirmation The first public confirmation of the deaths of Jota and Silva came from the Civil Guard in Zamora, with the footballers having been confirmed as dead by medical personnel shortly upon their arrival on the scene. A spokesman for the Civil Guard in Zamora said: "The investigation into the crash is being carried out by Civil Guard traffic officers. We believe the car suffered a blowout from the marks on the road. The full police report once it is completed will be submitted to a duty court in Zamora which has launched an ongoing judicial investigation into this crash. 'That report is going to take time to complete, probably about four or five days but possibly longer. At this moment in time it is impossible to say at exactly what speed the car was going but that is something the Civil Guard investigators will be able to detail at least approximately in their final report from things like the skid marks. What I can confirm is that no other vehicle was involved and no-one else was hurt." First picture of crash After news of the deaths were confirmed, the first pictures from the incident were released which showed the harrowing wreckage of the Lamborghini by the side of the road. In the photo, several medical personnel can be seen stood around the burnt vehicle. Emergency services in the Castilla and Leon region published a statement where they confirmed the crash which read: "The 1-1-2 Castilla y León operations room received several calls reporting a vehicle accident at Km. 65 of the A-52, in the municipality of Cernadilla, Zamora. A car was reported to have been involved in an accident, and the vehicle was on fire. "1-1-2 notified the Zamora Traffic Police, the Zamora Provincial Council Fire Brigade, and the Sacyl Emergency Coordination Center (CCU) of this accident. From there, a Medical Emergency Unit (UME) and the Primary Care Medical Staff (MAP) from the Mombuey Health Center were sent, who confirmed the death of two people on the scene." 'Road full of potholes' Following the death of Jota and Silva, much has been made of the A52 where the deaths occurred, with many taking to social media to criticise the safety of the road. While there has been no indication thus far on whether the condition of the road played a role in the crash, that hasn't stopped people expressing frustration at the supposed "deplorable" state of the road. One X user said: "This is the highway/goat track where Diogo Jota and his brother died. I don't know if they had a puncture, or if an animal got in their way.... What I do know is that the A52 is in a deplorable state." A second wrote: "You're absolutely right, when I come from France and I go to Vigo, I go through there and I'm always afraid of that road with all the potholes it has, it can break the suspension." While a third added: "I drove around it once in 2023, and I found it to be in a terrible state. I can't conceive that it is still not being resurfaced." And a fourth said: "The puncture is easy, the road is full of potholes, it's a real danger." Identity confirmed by police After the Lamborghini had veered off the road, it had burst into flames and was later put out by firefighters with the inferno having spread to nearby vegetation. Due to the vehicle being incinerated, the identities of Jota and Silva were confirmed by way of documents found at the scene of the accident and in the car. It's understood that it was a license plate that proved to be the vital piece of evidence that allowed authorities to confirm the deaths of the two brothers. Forensic experts who are conducting the autopsy have been forced to turn to DNA tests. Reason for car trip With Liverpool's pre-season set to commence next week, it was learned that Jota was en route to the port city of Santander in order to catch a ferry back to the UK when the car crash occurred. Jota, alongside his younger brother, opted to drive after the Portugal international had been advised not to fly after going under the knife for lung surgery. The pair were set to stop in Benavente overnight before taking the ferry to Portsmouth in order to return to Merseyside in what would have been his sixth season at Anfield.

A 21-year-old student who broke into the homes of three women while they were asleep has been jailed. Evan Powell entered the properties in the Brynmill area, Swansea during the early hours of 31 October Paul Thomas KC said he showed no remorse and described his behaviour as "of an extremely sinister nature".At Swansea Crown Court on Thursday, Powell was sentenced to five years in prison and four years on extended license. Warning: This article contains upsetting details In May, after denying the charges, Powell was found guilty of three counts of trespassing with intent to commit a sexual offence, and one count of attempting to do so. During the trial, the court heard that one woman woke at about 05:00 BST to find Powell, a stranger to her, standing in her bedroom. She later discovered he had also entered her child's room and rummaged through an hour later, Powell entered a second nearby property. The woman sleeping there woke to find him standing over her, masturbating with his genitals exposed. He was chased from the house and police were a former Swansea University student, then entered a third property, waking the resident by opening their bedroom door before also attempted to enter a fourth property but was unsuccessful. In a victim impact statement, one of the women said the incident had a "massive impact" on her added her son, who has ADHD and autism "woke to see a unknown strange man in the bedroom"."It's had a massive impact on his daily routine," she said. "He has had trouble with sleeping for month." Judge Paul Thomas KC described Powell's actions as "opportunistic but nevertheless persistent," adding: "You prowled the streets of the student area looking for opportunities of non-consensual sexual activity."You carried on even when people discovered you in their property."He dismissed Powell's defence - that he was searching for unnamed individuals and a lost mobile phone - as "ludicrous"."You have no insight into your problem, and you do not acknowledge that you have one," the judge told him. Mr Avirup Chaudhuri, defending Mr Powell, told the court how the defendant had some "issues" growing up despite coming from a "loving and caring background" and was away from his family at the time of the offences. The court heard that Powell had no previous convictions, but police issued him with two community resolutions in October 2023, after he attacked two young women - one sexually and the other non-sexually - on Wine Street, Thomas KC said that it's of "greatest regret that you were not properly dealt with at that time through the courts". Carolina Mayorga-Williams from the Crown Prosecution Service said it takes all allegations of sexual offending "very seriously"."Waking up to find a stranger in your or your child's bedroom must be a terrifying experience and violates a person's right to feel safe in their own home," she added. Powell will serve two-thirds of his five-year prison term in custody before becoming eligible for release. Judge Thomas also ordered Powell to sign the sex offenders register for life.
