Michigan football makes top group for five-star EDGE Carter Meadows
Michigan football has a small window where recruiting the 2026 class isn't taking center stage, but it's about to pick back up with official visits starting at the end of the month.
One top target for the maize and blue this cycle is Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga five-star edge rusher Carter Meadows, who the Wolverines have long made a priority. Michigan has the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine edge for Meadows at the moment, with a 40% chance it lands him. But now it knows for sure it's in a strong position.
On Friday, Meadows revealed his top four schools through On3's Hayes Fawcett, and Michigan football made the cut.
The other finalists are Ohio State, Penn State, and South Carolina. The Wolverines get the final visit for Meadows on June 20, but he will see the other three schools in the preceding weeks.
The scouting report via On3:
Rangy EDGE prospect with a rare combination of frame and movement skills. One of the most physically impressive prospects in the 2026 cycle. Measured in at around 6-foot-6, 225 pounds as a junior. Has vines for arms that measure around 35 inches to go with large hands. Could easily be a 280-pounder before it's all said and done. Pairs the great frame with impressive functional athleticism A fluid, flexible athlete who has excellent bend. Has the natural tools to develop into a dangerous pass rusher down the line. Length pairs with good play strength to result in an effective edge setter. Also shows his athleticism in tracking down plays in pursuit. Doubles as a good high school basketball player while playing top competition on the hardwood. Will need to continue progressing as a pass rusher while upping his production. Pure physical upside is among the highest in the 2026 cycle.
Michigan took just one edge rusher in 2025 in Rivals five-star Nate Marshall.
The Wolverines have five commitments thus far in 2026, including one edge rusher in fellow D.C. area pledge Tariq Boney.

Why Zion Robinson is a pivotal recruiting pickup for Michigan, Bryce Underwood

Michigan's strategy in recruiting is to surround quarterback Bryce Underwood with big wide receivers who can run. The Wolverines took another step in that direction Wednesday by landing a commitment from Zion Robinson, a four-star prospect from Mansfield, Texas, and the son of Khadevis Robinson, a U.S. Olympian in the 800 meters. Advertisement Robinson, the No. 132 prospect in the 247Sports Composite rankings, picked Michigan over Stanford, Miami and Nebraska. His father, now the director of track and field at TCU, was a four-time U.S. outdoor champion in the 800 and made the U.S. Olympic team in 2004 and 2012. Zion Robinson, who specialized in sprints and high jump as a track athlete, has the long-range speed to pull away from defenders and the size to bring down jump balls at 6 feet 3 and 180 pounds. Robinson won a state high jump championship as a sophomore before opting to focus on football and basketball as a junior. He's still learning the nuances of playing wide receiver, but his size and speed attracted the attention of college recruiters coming out of his sophomore season at Mansfield. 'He was pretty raw, like most freshmen are when they come in,' said Mansfield coach Gregory George. 'We didn't see him as a freshman on the football field, but he's one that has developed into a pretty good receiver. He has a lot of good tools: good hands, can go catch a ball, fast, runs good routes. He has a lot of God-given ability in terms of being an athlete. We're looking forward to him being able to use that as a profession.' Coach Sherrone Moore has emphasized recruiting tall wide receivers with basketball backgrounds who can box out defenders and make contested catches, even when the throw isn't perfect. Indiana transfer Donaven McCulley is expected to fill that role for the Wolverines this season, and Michigan added size in its 2025 class with Jamar Browder at 6-5 and Jacob Washington at 6-3. Michigan has its eyes on two other big wide receivers for 2026 in 6-5 Calvin Russell, a top-50 prospect from Miami, and 6-3 Travis Johnson, a top-150 prospect from Chesapeake, Va. Johnson is expected to announce a decision July 4, and Russell has an announcement scheduled for the following day. The Wolverines also have a commitment from Jaylen Pile, a three-star wide receiver from Dallas.

Michigan football secures 4-star WR Zion Robinson for 2026, revamping offense

Michigan football is looking to revamp the offense in a big way, having brought in No. 1 overall player in quarterback Bryce Underwood, offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, wide receivers Donaven McCulley, Andrew Marsh, and Jamar Browder, and running back Justice Haynes. If all goes to plan, the Wolverines will look much different (and better) on the offensive side of the ball. But what about the future? The maize and blue have one wide receiver committed thus far in 2026 Dallas (Tx.) Parish Episcopal three-star Jaylen Pile, but they're still making moves to fill out the rest of the class and the position group. On Wednesday, the Wolverines got a big boost, dipping again into the state of Texas, with Mansfield (Tx.) four-star wideout Zion Robinson committing to Michigan football. He announced his commitment on Instagram live. Scouting report Here's the scouting report on Robinson from 247Sports' Gabe Brooks: Tall outside target pushing 6-foot-3 with excellent multi-sport athletic context in basketball and track and field. More polished pass catchers are out there, but very few boast this combination of above-the-rim hardwood context, a state championship high jump gold medal, and corresponding high-level athleticism in pads. Frame and explosion foster contested-catch dominance. Displays sneaky run-after-catch effectiveness relative to frame and straight-line top-end gear. Shows adequate acceleration that times requires a build-up runway, but leads to breakaway long speed. Still developing hands consistency and route technique, but showed encouraging signs during junior season and Spring 2025 elite camp evaluation. A particularly high-ceiling outside receiver prospect who could become an impact player in college with long-term pro potential. At 6-foot-3, 180 pounds, the No. 71 player in the country, according to 247Sports, should give a big boost to the Wolverines' passing attack. He chose the maize and blue over Miami, Texas Tech, Stanford, and Nebraska. Junior highlights The current class and who Michigan is still targeting Michigan football is still working on 2026 Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith four-star wideout Travis Johnson, and appears to have surged in the recruitment of Miami (Fla.) Northwestern five-star Calvin Russell. Here is what the class now looks like with Robinson in the fold, using the 247Sports Composite rankings:

Key LSU football recruiting target reveals commitment date and finalists

LSU football 2026 target Emanuel Ruffin will announce his college choice on July 4, according to a post from his social media account on Tuesday. The four-star defensive lineman's top two are Ohio State and LSU. He made official visits to each, Baton Rouge on May 30 and Columbus on June 6. The two schools emerged as his favorites amid a host of Power Four offers, and On3's Prediction Machine lists the Tigers as the favorites. 247 Sports ranks Ruffin the highest out o the major recruiting outlets, slotting him at No. 117 overall and No. 19 at his position. On3's Industry Rankings put the six-foot-3.5, 290 pounder at No. 31 among defensive linemen. Ruffin would be the second defensive line commitment for LSU in the 2026 cycle, joining five-star Richard Anderson. The Tigers' class currently ranks second in the SEC and fifth nationally with 10 commitments, 90% of which are blue chips. Head coach Brian Kelly's staff needs new momentum on the recruiting trail following the loss of top quarterback target Bowe Bentley to Oklahoma. Securing Ruffin would provide a spark for the Tigers heading deeper into the summer.
