49ers fans energized by Christian McCaffrey's early return following right knee injury
The post 49ers fans energized by Christian McCaffrey's early return following right knee injury appeared first on ClutchPoints.
The San Francisco 49ers looked like a shell of their vaunted, explosive self with the pileup of 2024 injuries. Notably, running back Christian McCaffrey, who established himself as a tone setter since his arrival via a 2022 midseason trade. S.F. fans became energized by the latest McCaffrey sight, though.

The All-Pro running back is making his comeback from a right knee injury that robbed him of his explosive nature. But a Thursday viral video energized members of the 49ers faithful.
The NFC champion RB is showing the famed cut and go ability that turned him into a star in the league. McCaffrey last provided an injury update one month ago. He told ESPN he was 'feeling great.' This video shows promise of being ahead of schedule in his rehab.
Granted, the 49ers don't put on pads until training camp. Kyle Shanahan and the coaching staff have to create a plan to prevent McCaffrey from re-injuring himself. So 49ers fans are holding their breaths in looking at 'Run-CMC.' Still, McCaffrey is showing signs that he hasn't lost his footing.

'A healthy Christian McCaffrey changes EVERYTHING for the 49ers offense this season,' said one fan on X.
Another fan added on X how McCaffrey 'is able to move, run and cut at full speed. He did individual drills' while in Santa Clara at the 49ers' facility.
ESPN 49ers insider Nick Wagoner was on hand to watch McCaffrey run through drills. He provided this report on the returning McCaffrey. Turns out he was one of three 49ers veterans taking part in practice following pivotal injuries.
'RB Christian McCaffrey, TE George Kittle, DE Nick Bosa all did some individual and then worked in to 11 on 11 (which was done without helmets and pads),' Wagoner posted. He added how 'LB Fred Warner was present and watched but did not participate. Did not see LT Trent Williams.'
McCaffrey will soon team with new $265 million teammate Brock Purdy. A healthy McCaffrey ignites the offense and lifts the 49ers' playoff chances.

The 49ers complete trade to acquire edge rusher Bryce Huff from the Eagles for a mid-round pick
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers have completed the trade with the Philadelphia Eagles for edge rusher Bryce Huff. Huff restructured his contract with the Eagles last week to help facilitate the trade that will send a 2026 mid-round pick to Philadelphia and the teams announced it on Monday, pending a physical. Huff was set to make $17 million in fully guaranteed money this year. The Eagles will pay $9.05 million of that with the 49ers on the hook for the remaining $7.95 million, ESPN reported last week. The move to acquire Huff gives San Francisco another needed option at edge rusher across from star Nick Bosa and reunites Huff with Robert Saleh, who was his head coach at the New York Jets during his most productive season in 2023. Huff had 10 sacks that season and recorded 67 pressures on just 334 pass rush snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. Huff translated that breakthrough season into a three-year, $51.1 million deal with the Eagles. He had only 2 1/2 sacks and 23 pressures in his one season in Philadelphia, missing five games with a wrist injury. He was then a healthy scratch in the Super Bowl. Huff was originally an undrafted free agent by the Jets in 2020 out of Memphis. He had 7 1/2 sacks in his first three seasons before the breakthrough campaign under Saleh in 2023. The Niners were in need of another pass rusher after cutting Leonard Floyd early in the offseason. They drafted Mykel Williams 11th overall in April but had no other defensive end who had a season with at least five sacks in the NFL. Yetur Gross-Matos is the only other edge rusher on the roster with extensive experience. Gross-Matos had four sacks last season in his first year with San Francisco. The Eagles have undergone significant changes at edge rusher this offseason with Brandon Graham retiring and Josh Sweat leaving to sign with Arizona in free agency. Philadelphia is counting on increased contributions from returning players Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt and has also signed Azeez Ojulari and Joshua Uche in free agency. ___ AP NFL:

49ers announce trade for Bryce Huff
With June 1 arriving, it's easier for certain trades to be finalized from a cap perspective. Not coincidentally, the 49ers have announced the anticipated trade for Eagles defensive end Bryce Huff. The Eagles will receive 'a mid-round pick' in the 2026 draft. (Why be coy? Just tell us the round, Niners.) The trade reunites Huff with former Jets coach Robert Saleh, who has returned to San Francisco as the defensive coordinator. Huff signed a three-year, $51.1 million deal with the Eagles in 2024, after spending his first four years with the Jets. In his only season with the Eagles, Huff appeared in 12 games with six starts. He had 2.5 regular-season sacks. Huff was a healthy scratch in the Super Bowl. The arrival gives the 49ers a pass rusher who is familiar with the team's defense. For the Eagles, the deal represents a willingness to acknowledge a rare mistake and move on. Which is always better than stubbornly doubling down.

Eagles officially trade Bryce Huff to the 49ers for a 2026 mid-round draft pick
Eagles officially trade Bryce Huff to the 49ers for a 2026 mid-round draft pick The Philadelphia Eagles have officially reached an agreement to trade Bryce Huff to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a mid-round draft pick in 2026. After days of reaction and breakdowns, the Eagles have officially agreed to trade pass rusher Bryce Huff to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2026 mid-round pick pending a physical. Signed to a three-year, $51 million deal to replace Haason Reddick, Huff spent the majority of the 2024 season injured or out of the rotation. A prize-free agent signing this time last spring, Huff was a major disappointment in 2024 and saw limited playing time due to the rotation and injuries. Huff had 2.5 sacks, missed seven games, and was inactive for the Super Bowl. With Brandon Graham retiring and Josh Sweat signing with Arizona, it was assumed that Huff might take on a larger role in 2024 alongside Nolan Smith. Even after the Eagles signed Josh Uche and Azeez Ojulari, Huff has stayed away with voluntary off-season workouts, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Bryce Huff wasn't at practice. In fact, the defensive end hasn't attended Eagles' workouts this entire spring, an NFL source said. That doesn't necessarily come as a huge surprise since he is unlikely to be part of the Eagles' plans for 2025. General manager Howie Roseman, when asked about Huff in early February, might have said his story 'is yet to be written,' but the fact that he was inactive for the Super Bowl said more about his future in Philadelphia. Huff is entering the second year of that $51 million contract with $16.75 million guaranteed. The Eagles wanted Huff gone, and are taking on $9.05 million of Huff's salary, and the 49ers are paying the remaining $7.95 million. Huff reworked his deal to make the trade happen.
