JDA officials warned of FIR for flouting online services norms
2
Jaipur: Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) commissioner Anandhi has warned officials of strict action, including FIRs, for violating the prescribed process of online services.
Anandhi stated in an order that a few applicants for online services lodged complaints against a section of officials, alleging that they unnecessarily summoned the applicants to the JDA headquarters or their respective offices and "harassed" them.
"Following an inquiry into these complaints, the order (by the commissioner) was issued. This is the first time an order has mentioned criminal actions against officials in addition to routine disciplinary proceedings," an official claimed.
An official explained that JDA implemented online versions of 39 of its services to boost transparency and improve service delivery. Under this, it is mandatory for all officials concerned to strictly adhere to the online mode of communication. This means that even in cases of rejection or revision, the official must put a note on the system, and the applicants need to follow the next course of action online.
"Only in cases of emergency exceptions shall an applicant and official meet physically. However, there are complaints that in cases of services like issuance of e-pattas, some officials called the applicants to meet physically when it was not necessary," another official said.

Darshan's bail cancelled: Supreme Court warns against 5-star treatment in jail; key observations
NEW DELHI: NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday cancelled the bail granted by the Karnataka high court to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa his girlfriend Pavithra Gowda , and five others in the Renukaswamy murder case. A bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan set aside the Karnataka high court's order, stating that it was flawed and suffered from multiple infirmities. "The High Court order reflects mechanical exercise of power. The grant of bail will impact the trial, and the witnesses can be influenced," the apex court ruled. Karnataka High Court conducted an examination at the pre-trial stage, which the Supreme Court deemed inappropriate. The trial court is the proper forum for such matters. Well-founded allegations, along with forensic evidence, support the cancellation of bail. The court warned against granting any special privileges to the accused while in jail. It stated that if accused are found receiving '5-star' treatment, the superintendent and all responsible officials would face suspension. The High Court order is a mechanical exercise, and granting bail may affect the trial and influence witnesses. The judgement came on an appeal filed by the Karnataka government against the state high court's December 13, 2024 order of bail to Darshan and the co-accused. Darshan, actress Pavithra Gowda, and several others stand accused of abducting and torturing 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan who had allegedly sent obscene messages to Gowda. According to police, the victim was confined in a shed in Bengaluru for three days in June 2024, subjected to torture, and later found dead, with his body recovered from a drain. On January 24, the Supreme Court issued notices to the actor, Gowda, and others in response to a plea filed by the Karnataka government. ‘Over 3,000 officials to get training on Pocso Act, prison facilities'
DEHRADUN: Inspector general of police (training) Anant Shankar Takwale informed the Uttarakhand high court on Wednesday that around 3,300 personnel, including circle officers (COs), investigating officers (IOs), and medical and prosecution officers, will be trained on issues related to the Pocso Act , prison facilities in the state, and concerns of inmates. The division bench of Chief Justice G Narendar and Justice Alok Mahra was hearing the appeal of a polio-stricken rape convict who had been sentenced to 20 years in jail under the Pocso Act by a court in Udham Singh Nagar district. Takwale said 40 officers, including COs, additional SPs, psychologists, and psychiatrists, would undergo training at the Uttarakhand Judicial and Legal Academy (Ujala), and a letter had been sent to the academy's director in this regard. He added that the training schedule would be provided at the next hearing. The court asked the Ujala director to submit suggestions and requested the presence of both the director and the IG via video conferencing at the next hearing on Aug 22. During an earlier hearing, while considering the convict's health condition, the court observed that the forensic department, investigating officers, and doctors play a crucial role in delivering justice to both the accused and the victim in rape cases. 'Any discrepancies in this process can hinder justice, which is a matter of concern requiring attention', it observed. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Gallantry awards 2025: Uttar Pradesh tops medal tally among states; bags 95 honours for bravery & service
LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the leading state in the country for Gallantry Medals (GM) awarded to its police personnel, according to the latest national honours list announced ahead of Independence Day. The state's police force has bagged 17 Gallantry Medals, six President's Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM), and an impressive 72 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM) — a combined tally that reflects both exceptional frontline courage and long-standing service excellence. Nationwide, the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir topped the overall list with 127 Gallantry Medals, but among states, Uttar Pradesh took the number one spot, surpassing Chhattisgarh (14 GM), Odisha (9 GM), and Bihar and Maharashtra (7 GM each). In 2024, UP has significantly improved its standing — last year it shared the top position with Maharashtra at 17 Gallantry Medals each, while in 2023, it had slipped to sixth place with just 12 medals, far behind then-state Jammu & Kashmir (55 GM), Maharashtra (33 GM), Chhattisgarh (24 GM), Telangana (22 GM), and Andhra Pradesh (18 GM). Police Gallantry Medals are awarded for exceptional courage and valor in the line of duty, often during high-risk encounters with criminals, anti-extremist operations, or life-threatening rescue missions. Senior police officials in UP police headquarters said this year's strong tally reflects the force's enhanced operational capacity, better inter-agency coordination, and sustained crackdowns on organized crime and criminal gangs across Uttar Pradesh. The President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the Medal for Meritorious Service further underline the commitment and dedication of UP's police personnel in ensuring law and order, preventing crime, and safeguarding public safety. Officials said these awards recognize not just momentary acts of bravery, but years of diligent, disciplined service that strengthens the state's security apparatus. They added that Uttar Pradesh's consistent performance in national police honours in recent years demonstrates the impact of modernized policing methods, increased training, and policy focus on proactive crime control, which together have contributed to making the force one of the most decorated in the country.
