Ben Foster, Manny Jacinto and Fiona Shaw to Star in Western Comedy THE STALEMATE — GeekTyrant

Geek Tyrant08-05-2025

Ben Foster ( Hell or High Water , 3:10 to Yuma ), Manny Jacinto ( The Good Place , Freakier Friday ), and Fiona Shaw ( Bad Sisters ) have signed on to star in the upcoming film The Stalemate , an absurdist Western comedy from first-time feature filmmaker Nicholas Arioli, who's directing from his own script. Currently in production in Santa Fe, New Mexico, The Stalemate focuses on a robber (Jacinto) and sheriff (Foster) who, out of bullets and far from town, must negotiate their way out of an absurd, unending chase in the Old West.
'I spent many years writing this completely absurd movie,' Arioli said, 'and I'm honored to work with such an incredible team who are as excited as I am to bring it to life. The Stalemate is part wacky buddy comedy, part poignant Western elegy – and just straight up a ton of fun. We can't wait to share it!'
In the meantime, Foster will next be seen starring opposite Sydney Sweeney in David Michôd's biopic on boxer Christy Martin. Recently, he wrapped shooting Motor City opposite Shailene Woodley.
Jacinto most recently starred in Disney+'s Star Wars series The Acolyte from Leslye Headland. Upcoming, he'll be seen starring opposite Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis in Freakier Friday , which hits theaters on August 8, and in the indie rom-com Love Language .
Recently seen starring in John Krasinski's IF , as well as the hit series Bad Sisters (Apple) and True Detective: Night Country (HBO), Shaw will be seen in a pair of films releasing later this year: Hot Milk , directed by Rebecca Lenkiewizc, and Apple's Echo Valley , opposite Julianne Moore and Sweeney.

Intense Teaser Trailer For Apple's Wildfire Drama THE LOST BUS Starring Matthew McConaughey — GeekTyrant

Apple has released a teaser trailer for their dramatic film The Lost Bus , based on the book 'Paradise: One Town's Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire' by Lizzie Johnson. The film follows a wayward school bus driver, played by Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey, and a dedicated school teacher America Ferrera [who] battle to save 22 children from a terrifying inferno. In the trailer, we see McConaughey's character driving through California's Butte County as he gets a call on his radio. 'There is a situation developing at Ponderosa Elementary,' announces a voice on the radio. 'There are 22 kids who are stranded…is there anybody who can pick these kids up?' McConaughey then picks up his mic to answer the call, but just before he does, the trailer cuts away to images of billowing smoke, air support battling towering infernos and the bus careering through a fiery landscape. The film also stars Yul Vazquez, Ashlie Atkinson, Danny McCarthy and Spencer Watson. Director Paul Greengrass said of the film's narrative, ''The Lost Bus' is the story of quiet heroism — of people coming together in the face of the unthinkable. I'm honored to have been entrusted with this story.' Greengrass serves as director as well as co-writer with Brad Inglesby. Producers include Inglesby, Gregory Goodman, Jason Blum for Blumhouse Productions and Jamie Lee Curtis for Comet Pictures. Johnson serves as executive producer. The Last Bus comes to Apple TV+ and select theaters this fall. Check out the trailer below.

Disney Lays Off Several Hundred Employees in Cost-Cutting Measure

Disney is laying off several hundred employees globally as part of cost-cutting measures. The impacted teams are employees working on marketing for both film and television, as well as TV publicity, casting and development and corporate financial operations, a source familiar with the matter confirms to The Hollywood Reporter. While individual employees from those teams are impacted, and were notified Monday, no team itself is being eliminated, the source said. The cuts represented about 6 percent of the division's workforce. This is part of Disney's ongoing efficiency and cost-cutting measures, which were outlined in September, as it refocuses on streaming and pushes for profitability. The Burbank-based company employs 233,000 people globally and 171,000 in the U.S., per its most recent annual report. 'We continually evaluate ways to invest in our businesses and more effectively manage our resources and costs to fuel the state-of-the-art creativity and innovation that consumers value and expect from Disney,' a rep for the company stated in September. 'As part of this ongoing optimization work, we have been reviewing the cost structure for our corporate-level functions and have determined there are ways for them to operate more efficiently.' In 2023, upon his return, Disney CEO Bob Iger unveiled a plan to cut 7,000 employees as part of a 'strategic realignment' of the company that was instituted in multiple phases with staffers being cut across a number of months.
