Be mindful when sharing content on UPSI crash, Fahmi tells social media users
SINTOK, June 10 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has urged content creators and social media users to exercise caution and uphold proper etiquette, when sharing or producing content related to the tragic accident which claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students in Gerik, Perak, early yesterday morning.
He said that this reminder was to protect the privacy and emotions of the victims' families.
'I urge everyone to give the families of the victims as much space and privacy as possible. I came across a piece of content made by an individual at the scene of the incident, and inside the bus.
'Although the message is a message of condolence, for me it is an accident area which is under investigation by the authorities, so be careful in producing content,' he said at a press conference, here, today.
Earlier, Fahmi delivered a keynote address at the forum titled 'Suara, Siber dan Sempadan: Merungkai Dinamika Kebebasan Media dalam Era Digital' forum at Universiti Utara Malaysia, here.
According to Fahmi, the incident is expected to be one of the topics discussed at the Cabinet meeting scheduled for tomorrow.
'Matters such as this will be discussed during the Cabinet meeting. However, we will first await the official report from the authorities. Based on the findings, we will determine the necessary course of action, including any enforcement measures which may be required.
'Anyway, we are currently awaiting the Cabinet meeting for the latest updates. Insya-Allah, a press conference will be held after the meeting, which I will personally oversee,' he said.
Yesterday's tragic incident involved a chartered bus carrying UPSI students from Jertih, Terengganu, to their campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak. The bus overturned following a collision at KM53 of the East-West Highway, near Tasik Banding, Gerik, claiming the lives of 15 students.
The accident also left 33 others injured, including the bus driver, his assistant, and three passengers of the Perodua Alza. — Bernama

RM3,000 aid for families of UPSI students killed in crash
KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu government will provide financial assistance of RM3,000 to each family of the 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students who perished in a bus crash on the East-West Highway (JRTB) near Tasik Banding, Gerik, Perak. Speaking to reporters, Ahmad Samsuri said he would personally hand over the financial aid to the victims' families next Tuesday. He said the state government would also cover all medical and hospital-related expenses, including surgery costs, and provide counselling sessions for victims and their families. 'The role of communities under the JPKK (Village Development and Security Committees) is also vital, and they have stepped up to offer extra comfort to affected families,' he said after presenting certificates of appointment to the president, vice-president, council members and honorary commissioners of the Terengganu Scouts at Wisma Darul Iman today. Meanwhile, Ahmad Samsuri urged all relevant quarters, including ministries, to conduct audits covering all aspects, such as law enforcement, road safety and bus operations, to prevent similar incidents. 'If a comprehensive audit cannot be carried out all at once, it can be done in phases, focusing first on high-risk locations,' he said.

Court sets July 2 for decision on shipping company's pre-trial discovery application against RHB
KUALA LUMPUR, June 11— The High Court here today fixed July 2 to decide on a pre-trial discovery application filed by Maritime Network Sdn Bhd against RHB Bank Berhad concerning the financial institution's internal guidelines and due diligence procedures governing foreign-exchange transactions. Judge Leong Wai Hong fixed the date after hearing submissions by both parties in chambers last Friday. This was confirmed by the shipping company's counsel, P. Taneswaran, and the bank's counsel, Gan Khong Aik, when contacted. According to them, the proceeding is scheduled at 9 am on the said date. Maritime Network filed an originating summons on March 3 this year, seeking a court order to compel the bank to disclose the financial institution's internal guidelines and due diligence procedures governing foreign-exchange transactions. The action was initiated by the company's director, Datuk Seri through Messrs Tanes, Khoo & Paulraj at the High Court here, naming the RHB Bank Berhad as the defendant. Maritime Network, established in 2002, commenced the action after discovering that several international fund transfers into its multi-currency USD account had been returned without prior notice or adequate justification. According to the affidavit, these transfers, though originating from previously unfamiliar senders, made explicit reference to valid invoices issued by the company. Despite Maritime Network's request that the bank withhold any reversal pending a thorough review, the funds were unilaterally returned. Meanwhile, the bank claimed that it has complied with the required financial standard known as Minimum Due Diligence (MDD). The company is therefore demanding a sight of the MDD guidelines used by the bank through pre-trial discovery to determine if it has breached its duty of care. — Bernama
