Ahmedabad to host IPL final in revised schedule
AHMEDABAD - The Indian Premier League final will be played in Ahmedabad, the country's cricket board said Tuesday as it announced the venues for the playoffs of the T20 tournament.
The IPL resumed last Saturday after being paused due to the conflict between India and Pakistan, forcing a revised schedule with the final now taking on 3 June, nine days later than initially planned.
Mullanpur, in New Chandigarh, will host the first qualifier and eliminator on 29 May and 30 May.
The world's biggest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad will host the second qualifier on June 1 followed by the final two days later in the 18th edition of the IPL.
"The new venues for the Playoffs were decided by the IPL Governing Council keeping in mind the weather conditions and other parameters," the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said.
Hyderabad and Kolkata were initially supposed to host the last four games before the tournament was paused for a week and restarted after the ceasefire.
The tournament has grown into the world's richest cricket league since its inaugural season in 2008 and has added billions to the Indian economy and the BCCI.

Tsotsobe and Tsolekile were both banned by Cricket South Africa in 2016 after an internal probe but now face criminal charges, alongside former player Jean Symes. The case has been postponed to 7 October.

Hundreds of thousands had packed the streets in the southern tech city Bengaluru on Wednesday to welcome home their hero Virat Kohli and his RCB team-mates after they beat Punjab Kings in a thrilling final of the Indian Premier League. But the euphoria of the vast crowds ended in disaster when 11 mainly young fans died in a stampede near the city's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where the players were parading the trophy. Media outlet India Today said Friday that Nikhil Sosale, RCB's head of marketing, was arrested at the Bengaluru airport. The Indian Express newspaper reported Sosale was arrested, along with an executive from the event management company DNA. The reported arrests come hours after Karnataka state's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that "legal action has been taken against the representatives of RCB", as well as the event organisers, and the state's cricket association. Siddaramaiah, who only uses one name, said top police officers in Bengaluru, including the city's police commissioner, have been suspended. "These officers appear to be irresponsible and negligent, and it has been decided to suspend them," Siddaramaiah said. The dead were mostly young fans, aged between 14 and 29, who were among a sea of people who had poured onto the streets to catch a glimpse of their heroes. RCB offered financial aid of $11,655 to each family of those killed, calling the deaths "unfortunate". Indian media have widely reported the team earned $2.3 million in prize money alone for taking the title on Wednesday. Kohli, who top-scored in the final, said he was "at a loss for words" after celebrations of a dream IPL crown turned to tragedy. Thousands of people, some waving the home team's red flag, lined streets around the Chinnaswamy Stadium as the team arrived in a bus in the evening, TV channels showed, with some climbing trees and the stadium wall for a better view. As the celebration proceeded, some people outside without passes tried to push through gates and there was further trouble between the perimeter and main arena, police said. Images from the scene showed people climbing over others. At least 11 people were killed and 47 were injured in the incident, Karnataka state chief minister Siddaramaiah, who uses only one name, told reporters. 'At a time of celebration, this unfortunate event should not have happened. We are saddened by this. The fans that showed up were beyond our expectations,' he said.
