Tripura to install 45 EV charging stations before Durga Puja

Time of India4 days ago
Agartala: Tripura govt is set to install 45 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the state before the upcoming Durga Puja festival. This initiative, announced by state power minister Ratan Lal Nath, aims to bolster the use of clean energy in the transport sector.
Minister Nath highlighted that this effort aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's broader strategy to reduce India's reliance on fossil fuels and cut greenhouse gas emissions. The Prime Minister's initiatives, including the Solar Mission and the EV Policy, are part of a national commitment to climate resilience and sustainable development.
"Smaller states like Tripura are now catching up with the infrastructure needed for electric vehicles," Nath stated, emphasizing the state's commitment to promoting EV usage.
In addition to the EV infrastructure, Tripura's railway network is undergoing electrification, with plans to replace diesel engines with electric ones, further reducing the state's carbon footprint. The electrification project is complete and awaits approval from the Railway Board.
Nath also pointed out the state's shift towards renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, as natural gas reserves dwindle. The PM-KUSUM scheme is encouraging households to install solar panels, with 694 consumers in Tripura already generating solar power at home.
This comprehensive approach underscores Tripura's dedication to a sustainable future, leveraging both government initiatives and local participation to drive the green energy agenda forward.

#IDontKnowHomeMinister' goes viral, G Parameshwara tells trolls to find out who is the best

Bengaluru: For home minister G Parameshwara, the words "I don't know" have become both a shield and a punchline. Trolled online for his stock answer to almost every tricky question, the minister turned defence into attack on Saturday by roping in Artificial Intelligence. "Ask ChatGPT. It says Parameshwara is the no.1 home minister in India. Let the trolls verify that," he shot back at reporters in Tumakuru, visibly irritated as the hashtag #IDontKnowHomeMinister (Kannada: #GottillaGruhasachivaru) trended on social media. The trolling began after Parameshwara admitted he had "no idea" why cooperation minister KN Rajanna had suddenly resigned. Netizens quickly dug up a series of past press interactions wherein his replies began with the now-famous two words. Memes, reels, and sarcastic posts flooded timelines. As home minister, I can't say something casually. If people want to troll me, that's their right." Earlier, he warned the Tumakuru media not to find mistakes and vilify the district. "Inform us before mistakes happen and tell us to rectify it before publicizing them," he said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). DU delays Veer Savarkar College opening as approval pending with ministry

New Delhi: Delhi University has ruled out holding a separate admission exercise for its newly built Veer Savarkar College, making the institution's launch entirely dependent on financial clearance from the education ministry. Vice chancellor Yogesh Singh told TOI that if approval does not come by end of the month, the college will not open this year and will instead take its first batch of students in 2026. The college will offer thousands of additional seats with a provision of reservation for local students — a first for the university. However, with the admission cycle for existing DU colleges nearing completion, officials said there is no scope for integrating a late entrant. "Unless the proposal is cleared this month, admissions will not happen this year," Singh said. The West Delhi project is part of DU's expansion plan to reach underserved areas of the capital and ease the pressure on its crowded North and South campuses. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone in Jan for the campus, built at a cost over Rs 140 crore across an 18,816 square metres plot in Roshanpura. The decision to provide a quota for local students, drawn from west Delhi districts, was taken to address long-standing demands from residents who often travel to far-off campuses for higher education. This provision makes Savarkar College the first DU institution to adopt such a model. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
