Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin, will lead a 'Unity March' in Chennai on Saturday to pay tribute to the bravery, dedication, and sacrifices of the Indian armed forces.
The march, announced by the Chief Minister on Friday, is set to commence at 5 p.m. from the Office of the Director General of Police and will culminate at the War Memorial on Marina Beach.
In an official statement, Chief Minister Stalin emphasised the significance of national solidarity at this crucial juncture.
'This is a moment for every citizen to come together and express unwavering support for the Indian Army, which has steadfastly defended our nation's borders against terrorism and external aggression,' he said.
The 'Unity March' will see the participation of a wide cross-section of society, including retired personnel from the armed forces, state ministers, college and school students, and members of the general public.
The event aims to celebrate the courage and commitment of India's military while fostering a collective spirit of unity across Tamil Nadu.
Calling upon people from all walks of life to join the march in large numbers, CM Stalin urged citizens to show solidarity with the armed forces.
'Let us march together and send a powerful message from Tamil Nadu, saluting the selfless service of our soldiers who protect the sovereignty of the nation,' he appealed.
Security arrangements have been tightened along the route, with police officials coordinating crowd management and traffic control to ensure a smooth and peaceful event.
Authorities have also set up water stations and first-aid kiosks along the way to assist participants. The march comes in the backdrop of heightened national sentiment following the recent military operations across the border, which have drawn widespread praise for the Indian Army's valour.
Political leaders across party lines have extended their support to the march, calling it a unifying initiative that transcends political affiliations.
As the city prepares for the gathering, the Chief Minister's Office reiterated that the march is not only a tribute but also a reaffirmation of the state's commitment to the ideals of courage, patriotism, and unity in the face of external challenges.

Vaiko a tiger in Parliament: CM Stalin bids farewell as veteran's fourth Rajya Sabha stint ends

CHENNAI: Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin on Friday termed MDMK general secretary Vaiko a 'tiger' in the Parliament as the veteran leader bid an emotional farewell to his current tenure in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. 'He has consistently raised his voice to uphold the rights of Tamil Nadu. I hope his efforts for the rights of Tamils will continue for ever, as he remains a pillar of the Dravidian movement,' Stalin said, adding he watched the farewell speech of the leader in the RS on TV from the hospital where is currently admitted. In his farewell speech, Vaiko thanked former CM M Karunanidhi and Stalin for nominating him to the House. Karunanidhi nominated him thrice and Stalin once, in 2019. Vaiko said he had raised 13 attention motions in the House on the plight of Sri Lankan Tamils. Earlier, Stalin also appreciated DMK MPs M Shanmugam and MM Abdullah, whose tenure also ended on Thursday. He also conveyed his wishes to actor Kamal Haasan, P Wilson, SR Sivalingam and poet Salma who were sworn in as MPs on Friday. PMK's Anbumani Ramadoss's tenure also ended on Thursday, but he was not present in the House.

Oraniyil Tamil Nadu: DMK enrols two crore new members

CHENNAI: The DMK has said its 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu' initiative has crossed two crore enrolment. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin also confirmed this while speaking to the party's booth level functionaries in Chennai on Thursday evening, saying the two crore enrolment has rattled the opposition AIADMK. For the last three weeks, since July 3, the grassroots-level cadre of the party have been visiting door-to-door, meeting people at all the houses under every polling station as part of the initiative that aims to rally the people against the 'injustices' meted out to the state. If those enrolled under 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu' wish to become party members, they could enrol through a separate process. A few days ago due to the restrictions imposed by the Madras High Court, the party leadership had updated the mobile application so that the enrolment could be done without OTP and collecting at least one mobile number from a member of the family. As the whole initiative is digitalised, Stalin has been monitoring realtime updates online. Under the initiative launched on July 1, the DMK had set itself a target to reach approximately two crore households in 45 days.

Indian-origin entrepreneur who served chai to PM Modi, PM Starmer opens up about his ‘surreal day'

Akhil Patel, a London-based Indian-origin founder of a tea company who served chai to PM Modi and PM Starmer during the Indian leader's recent visit to the UK, has opened up about his 'surreal experience.' In an Instagram post, he recalled how he felt once he saw the world leaders walking towards his stall to have tea instead of coffee. Yesterday, I was invited by @10downingstreet to serve chai at Chequers — to @narendramodi , @keirstarmer, and Indian & UK ministers. Can we just take a moment to realise how mad that is?' the entrepreneur posted on his company Amala Chai's official Instagram page. 'There I was, in the UK Prime Minister's house, serving masala chai — and not one person wanted coffee,' he continued. 'From one chaiwala to another, that was a special day. Right… I'm getting off the internet now to make a cup of chai,' he added. Who is Akhil Patel? A London School of Economics graduate, Patel started his career as a data analyst. However, he shifted his career from corporate employee to entrepreneur in 2019 after founding Amala Chai. He started his company after being inspired by his grandmother and her love for tea. The company claims to procure all the materials it sells directly from 'small family farms in Assam and Kerala.' PM Modi's recent UK visit: In a statement, India's Ministry of External Affairs said, 'During his official visit to the United Kingdom from 23-24 July 2025, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi met today with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rt. Hon. Sir Keir Starmer. On arrival at the UK Prime Minister's country residence at Chequers in Buckinghamshire, he was warmly received by Prime Minister Starmer. The two leaders held a one-on-one meeting as well as delegation level talks.'
