Portrush restaurant group in Open pricing review after furious backlash at eye-watering cost hike

Prices around the town for the 153rd Championship spark some outcry
Furious customers have sparked a backlash against a Portrush restaurant group ahead of The Open.

The staging of the 153rd Championship in the Northern Irish town will see 278,000 pack the course on the Antrim Coast.

Visitors have come from across the globe for the tournament and, naturally, pricing has been adjusted around the town in some spots.

In particular, the cost of grub at the Ramore Wine Bar brought a review of policy amid a social-media outcry from locals.
One report has stated that the price of a chicken and bacon burger increased from £7.95 to £17.95 while a bowl of chilli chicken pasta that cost £14.95 earlier this month rose to £27.95.
A statement from Ramore Restaurants released by BBC NI said: 'We've listened to the feedback and, as of today, have taken steps to revise and adjust pricing across all of our restaurant menus going forward.'
The Ramore Restaurants group includes the famous Harbour Bar, Ramore Wine Bar, Basalt and Neptune and Prawn.
It said the price increases 'reflects the significant investment we've made to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and high-quality experience for both locals and visitors'.

A spokesperson said it had brought in more than 30 agency staff to support its employees, more than 30 security personnel and more than 20 entertainers over the course of the tournament.
The group added: 'All of our restaurants are open every day during this exceptionally busy period and we're committed to delivering the best possible hospitality to everyone who visits.'
The group said it had reduced prices across its menus for the current championship week and plans to further adjust and reduce them again once The Open concludes.

Scotland's most expensive football replica kit price revealed

Diehard Killie supporters would need to fork out £310 to get the full set Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) FOOTBALL clubs have been accused of "fleecing" fans over replica kersey costs - as Kilmarnock top the cash-grab table. The Ayrshire side is selling an incredible six different shirts as the new SPFL season kicked off this weekend. Champions Celtic have the most expensive strip for 2025-26, with the same 'authentic' matchday top worn by stars selling for £120. Rangers have the dearest 'standard' replica with Umbro's retro-style effort priced at £80. One Killie fan said: 'You could get three seasons worth of our famous pies for the cost of all the tops.' Kit prices have increased for half of the country's 12 top-flight clubs. Old Firm fans are paying the biggest increase — with both sides' tops up a fiver since last season. Hibs tops are £3 more expensive at £63, while city rivals Hearts have increased the price of their jerseys by £2.50 to £60. Scottish Cup winners Aberdeen have upped the cost by £2 to £70, while Dundee United put the same amount onto their shirts, which now cost £60. Meanwhile, St Mirren, Motherwell and Dundee have froze their prices with supporters paying the same £55 as 2024-25. Killie have kept their £60 price tag for their first team replicas. Motherwell and Rangers fans displays ahead of Premiership opener But the Rugby Park club has more than twice the number of jerseys for sale than any other side. Fans of manager Stuart Kettlewell's side can choose between the classic blue and white striped home top, a red and blue away kit (£60), a purple third design (£60), retro sets marking league victory in 1965 (£50) and the 1973 (£25) campaign, and a limited edition shirt (£55) celebrating McKenzie's 14 years with the team. Stuart Murphy, chief executive of the Scottish Football Supporters Association, says costs are too high for many families. He said: 'The prices are scandalous. A family of four would have to spend hundreds of pounds for tops. 'We're in a cost-of-living crisis and would like to see teams freeze their prices if they can't bring them down. 'Between ticket prices, replica kits and the cost of food in grounds, taking in a game is hugely expensive for most fans.' Michael McKeown, 34, runs the Football Shirt Emporium selling retro and classic kits in Hamilton. He said: 'Fans are being fleeced. 'These tops only cost buttons to make and there's nothing that stands out about them. 'It's just a copy and paste of previous seasons with no thought in them. 'Families are being priced out from buying strips for their kids and that's disgusting. 'I don't expect any of this season's tops will be too sought after by collectors in the future.' Kilmarnock FC and the SPFL have been contacted for comment. Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Alexander Isak makes Newcastle decision after Liverpool's £150m transfer offer is rejected

Liverpool are still interested in signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle but have seen a £120m offer rejected by the Magpies, with the player's future uncertain after training alone in Spain Newcastle 's wantaway star Alexander Isak is set to return to the club's training ground amid Liverpool 's bid to sign the Sweden striker, reports claim. ‌ Isak has been training alone at the training facilities of old club Real Sociedad after informing Newcastle he wants to consider he options this summer. ‌ The 25-year-old has not joined Newcastle on their pre-season tour of Asia amid the uncertainty around his future, with manager Eddie Howe admitting the situation was not in his control. ‌ Liverpool have already had a £120m bid rejected by Newcastle, who value the player at closer to £150m and are in no rush to sell him given that he has three years left on his contract at St James' Park. According to the Athletic, Isak is now set to travel back to the UK after a brief period of training at Sociedad's Zubieta base, which he has been using when they are empty rather than training alongside his former team-mates. He will not be linking up with the rest of his Newcastle team-mates and Howe and Co prepare for a friendly clash against Tottenham on Sunday, before two more friendlies against Espanyol and Atletico Madrid. The report claims Liverpool are not planning to submit a second offer for Isak after their initial "take it or leave it" bid, but remain interested in the player. The Reds have already spent nearly £300m on a host of high-profile signings, including £116.5m on Florian Wirtz - which was a British transfer record - £79m on forward Hugo Ekitike, £50m on left-back Milos Kerkez and £29m on right-back Jeremie Frimpong. ‌ Adding Isak to their squad would force them to smash another transfer record but as things stand the move looks to be difficult to pull off. Liverpool have managed to balance the books by selling Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid for £10m and Luis Diaz to Bayern for £63m, while Darwin Nunez is reportedly in talks to join Al-Hilal. Newcastle boss Howe said he was in the dark over Isak's future but was hopeful the club could still hang onto their talisman. 'I really don't know what is going to happen next, but from our perspective, we still support Alex in every way, and my wish is still that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again,' he said. A study of 2,000 adults found that many were more than happy to wave goodbye to landline desk phones, business card holders and even floppy disks, as they are consigned to work-life history The office relics consigned to work-life history now include fax machines, Rolodexes, and clunky filing cabinets. A poll of 2,000 employed adults found that many were more than happy to bid farewell to landline desk phones, business card holders, and even floppy disks. Others expressed relief at saying goodbye to correction fluid, hole punches, and paper diaries or planners, which once dominated their desks. ‌ Today, 52 percent of workers treat their smartphone as a fully-fledged portable office, with 62 percent claiming it has improved their ability to multitask at work. The office itself has also evolved, now featuring comfortable seating areas, relaxation spaces, and collaboration pods. ‌ However, 12 percent of those aged 50 and over admitted to struggling to incorporate new software into their working lives. It comes after a huge VPN change announced as everyone in the UK is targeted by major web update. ‌ Everyone in the UK with WhatsApp put on red alert and told to follow three new rules ‌ Annika Bizon, from Samsung, which commissioned the research to mark the launch of the AI business enhanced Galaxy Z Fold7 Enterprise Edition, that aims to give workers the ability to work the way they want, said: 'Thanks to cutting-edge technology, the modern office looks nothing like it did 25 years ago. 'Today's professionals don't work in one place or on one schedule, and their tech shouldn't be confined to any restraints either.' The research also revealed that 50 per cent of workers begin their workday during their commute at least some, if not all, of the days they travel to work. ‌ Throughout the working week, 37 per cent now have fully office-based jobs. With just under one in five splitting their time 50/50 between the office and home. As such, just 37 per cent have assigned seats or desk space at work, with over a quarter (26 per cent) hotdesking instead.
