Opening batter Prithvi Shaw has sought a 'No Objection Certificate' from the Mumbai Cricket Association in order to sever ties with them and represent another state. The development comes months after he was dropped by the Mumbai selection committee due to poor fitness.
'He has sought NoC from us and we will take decision on it soon,' an MCA source was quoted by the Indian Express as saying.
Fitness issues to blame for Shaw's exit from Mumbai?
Mumbai, which had won its 42nd Ranji Trophy title in March last year, had informed Shaw that that his body contains 35 percent fat, and he needs rigorous exercise to make his way back to the squad.
The 25-year-old had played the first two matches of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season against Baroda and Maharashtra, scoring 59 runs at an average just under 20 before getting dropped.

Shaw, who had made the last of his 12 international appearances in July 2021, wrote an email to the MCA in which he thanked them for the 'valuable opportunities and unwavering support' provided to him while making an official request for an NOC.
'At this juncture in my career, I have been presented with a promising opportunity to play professional cricket under another State Association, which I believe will further contribute to my growth and development as a cricketer. In light of this, I kindly request you to issue me a No Objection Certificate (NOC) that will enable me to officially represent the new State Association in the upcoming domestic season.
'Please be assured that this decision has been made after careful consideration, and with utmost respect for the MCA. I remain ever grateful to the association for the guidance and platform provided over the years," read Shaw's mail to the MCA.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, also an opening batter, had also parted ways with Mumbai last month and was set to represent Goa after obtaining an NOC from MCA. The 23-year-old, however, made a U-turn shortly after and requested to remain part of the association for the 2025-26 domestic season.

Prithvi Shaw set to join Maharashtra after ending ties with home team Mumbai; here's why
Prithvi Shaw has officially parted ways with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) after obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC). He is set to pursue new opportunities with Maharashtra. The 25-year-old opener seeks to revive his fortunes following a period affected by fitness and disciplinary issues. The Mumbai Cricket Association confirmed that Shaw formally requested an NOC to represent another team in the upcoming domestic season. After consideration, the MCA granted the certificate, allowing Shaw to make his way to the new team. MCA Secretary Abhay Hadap reflected on Shaw's decision stating, 'Prithvi Shaw has been an exceptional talent and has contributed significantly to Mumbai cricket. We respect his decision and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.' Prithvi Shaw expressed gratitude in a heartfelt letter for his former team Mumbai where he debuted in 2017. 'At this juncture in my career, I have been presented with a promising opportunity to play professional cricket under another State Association, which I believe will further contribute to my growth and development as a cricketer,' Shaw wrote. Prithvi Shaw smashed a century on his Mumbai debut in the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy semifinals. Shaw also led Mumbai to the Vijay Hazare Trophy title in 2020-21 and proved his leadership capabilities. However, his career has been inconsistent, with fitness and disciplinary issues overshadowing his on-field achievements. In the 2024-25 season, Shaw was dropped from the Mumbai Ranji squad due to poor fitness, and he went unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. His last appearance for Mumbai was in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy final, where Mumbai took a five-wicket victory over Madhya Pradesh. Prithvi Shaw's career has been impacted by recurring concerns about his fitness and discipline. Shreyas Iyer, who captained Mumbai to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title, openly criticized Shaw's work ethic, stating, 'He needs to get his work ethic right, and if he does that, the sky is the limit for him.' Iyer further noted, 'We can't babysit anyone, right? Every professional who is playing at this level needs to know what they should be doing.' Shaw's move to Maharashtra will offer a fresh start, with the state set to pair him with Ruturaj Gaikwad at the top of the batting order. According to a report by The Hindu, the Maharashtra Cricket Association is preparing to announce a high-profile coaching appointment. While officials have remained tight-lipped, sources have confirmed that Shaw's joining the team is confirmed.

Dilip Doshi obituary: Melbourne 1981 Test win against Australia was his ‘greatest cricketing moment'
Former India spinner Dilip Doshi, who played 33 for India in a four-year span between 1979-1983 passed away on Monday aged 77 at London, Saurashtra Cricket Association confirmed. The former left-arm spinner's playing career like that of Padmakar Shivalkar and Rajinder Goel had coincided with India's spin quartet, restricting his appearance to just 33, but featured in 238 first-class fixtures including County stints in Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire. He also turned out for Bengal and Saurashtra in Ranji Trophy and ended up with 898 first-class wickets, which included 43 5-wicket hauls. In 33 Tests, he had 114 wickets to his name at an average of 30.71 which was nearly four more than his FC figures. He also featured in 15 ODIs, where he picked up 22 wickets. Doshi's high point was helping India to a famous win in Melbourne in 1981, which he called it his great moment of his career. 'I would say that Karsan Ghavri and I set it up,' he once told The Indian Express. 'Kapil helped us to finish it. So I must give a lot of credit to him. I think that is my single greatest cricketing moment,' he had said in 2011. While confirming Doshi's demise Saurashtra Cricket Association said Doshi is leaving behind a rich legacy of sportsmanship, commitment, and excellence. Thanks to India' strong spin attack, Doshi had to wait till he turned 32 to play his first Test against Australia at Chennai in September 1979, where he picked up 6/103 in the first innings before taking two more in the drawn outing. From there on, he remained a regular member of the squad, even touring New Zealand, Australia England and Pakistan. His final Test appearance came exactly four years after his debut in 1983 September against Pakistan at Bengaluru. Doshi is only the second bowler to end up with more than 100 Test wickets after making Test debut after turning 30 with Australia's Clarrie Grimmett being the other. In 2020, he was awarded a special award for his contribution at the BCCI annual awards. Doshi has been living in London for several years and died of heart-related issues. He is survived by wife Kalindi, son Nayan, who played for Surrey and Saurashtra, and daughter Vishakha. Garfield Sobers, with whom Doshi shared the dressing room at Nottinghamshire, had said, 'Dilip Doshi has an immeasurable knowledge to pass on to those who want to follow his path into professional cricket. He has played at all levels over the world and there can be no one more qualified to talk about the art of spin bowling.' Former BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah said, 'It is an extremely painful and personal loss for me. Dilip was not only one of the legendary cricketers, but also one of the finest human beings I have ever known. His noble heart, integrity, and priceless dedication to the game made him truly special.'
