NFL teams reportedly received a record $432.6 million in league revenue sharing deal
The NFL is once again handing a record revenue share to its 32 franchises this year. The league sent each team $432.6 million as part of the NFL's national revenue sharing from the previous fiscal year, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky. That means that the total handed out was more than $13.8 billion, an all-time record. Last season, each team received just more than $400 million. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] While those figures are generally kept private, they are revealed through the Green Bay Packers each season. The Packers are the only publicly owned team in the league, which requires them to reveal their financials on a yearly basis. Though each team is different, the Packers' financial statement provides a pretty good benchmark for franchises throughout the league. The Packers' profit from operations, according to ESPN, increased from $60.1 million to $83.7 million year-over-year. Local revenue, which was helped with the addition of a ninth regular-season home game for the first time last season, also increased by about $35 million. The Packers said that the national revenue sharing they receive accounts for about 60% of their total revenue. "The league has it so they're trying to grow at about a 7% growth rate annually," outgoing Packers president Mark Murphy told ESPN. 'And then the other thing I think the league's done a good job of is moving more towards streaming, but still a vast majority of our national revenue is coming from broadcast television." The NFL's current television rights deals with CBS, Fox, NBC, ESPN and Amazon currently run through the 2033 season, but it is widely expected to opt-out early after the 2029 season and restructure them. The league has ventured into streaming slightly, too, with games on Amazon Prime Video and Netflix. What those new deals will do in terms of revenue sharing for teams like the Packers, though, remains to be seen.

Packers report a record $432.6 million in revenue sharing
Packers president Mark Murphy presented his final annual financial report Wednesday, reporting the team's national revenue sharing from the previous fiscal year was a record $432.6 million. The NFL's revenue sharing 18 years ago — when Murphy gave his first report — was $138 million per team, Rob Demovsky of ESPN reports. The revelation by the league's only publicly owned team means the NFL shared a record $13.8 billion in revenue from the previous fiscal year. "I continue to be amazed by the popularity of the NFL and by the league office's ability to generate revenue," Murphy said, via Demovsky. "It's impressive." National revenue makes up about 60 percent of the Packers' total revenue, Murphy said. The Packers reported an $83.7 million operating profit for the fiscal year ending March 31. That is a $23.6 million increase from the previous year's $60.1 million operating profit, a rise related to one more home game in 2024 than the eight in 2023. "It was a successful year for the organization," Murphy said. "The NFL's popularity and success continues to set the stage for our club to do well, which puts us in position to continue to invest in the team and the stadium." During Murphy's tenure, the Packers have invested $675 million into Lambeau Field and the team's facilities, including the unveiling of a renovated locker room this week.

Former Iowa football great, Buccaneers OT to open season on PUP list
Tristan Wirfs is one of the best offensive linemen in the entire NFL. But football fans will have to wait a little while before they see him take the field. On Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced that the two-time All-Pro tackle would open the season on the physically unable to perform list (PUP for short). Wirfs is dealing with a right knee injury at the moment and is joined on the PUP list by his teammate and former Penn State Nittany Lion Chris Godwin, who is recovering from a dislocated ankle. ESPN's Jenna Laine dove deeper into the Wirfs injury news and how it evolved from Wirfs missing minicamp for precautionary reasons to him landing on the PUP list. Wirfs was held out of mandatory minicamp in June and stood on the sidelines wearing a heavy brace on his right knee. At the time, coach Todd Bowles indicated he was being held out for "precautionary" reasons. But he wound up undergoing arthroscopic surgery in July, which is when more damage was detected. Early indications are that Wirfs will "likely" miss the start of the regular season, sources told ESPN earlier this month. -Laine. It's a tough blow for Wirfs and the Buccaneers, who are the favorites to win the NFC South once again. Wirfs is the only player in NFL history to be named an All-Pro at both left and right tackle and was set to block Baker Mayfield's blindside this season. While it sounds like the injury won't keep him out too long, it's a shame that Wirfs will likely miss the start of the regular season with it. Wirfs was a fan favorite at Iowa, and Hawkeye fans are wishing him a speedy recovery as we get closer and closer to the 2025 season kicking off.
