Ghislaine Maxwell shifted to lower-security prison in Texas as Trump govt faces backlash over Epstein files
Ghislaine Maxwell, the accomplice of convicted sex offender and British financier Jeffrey Epstein, has been transferred from a federal prison in Florida to a lower-security facility in Texas. The news was confirmed by the US Bureau of Prisons on Friday. Maxwell has been serving a 20-year prison sentence for sex-trafficking crimes.
'We can confirm, Ghislaine Maxwell is in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) at the Federal Prison Camp (FPC) Bryan in Bryan, Texas,' a spokesperson for the Bureau of Prisons said in a statement. Maxwell's attorney, David Oscar Markus, also confirmed the transfer but declined to share further details on the matter. It is pertinent to note that FPC Bryan is a 'minimum security federal prison camp' that houses 635 female inmates.

Interestingly, according to the Bureau of Prisons' inmate locator, the facility in Texas is also home to Elizabeth Holmes, the disgraced former CEO of the California-based blood-testing company Theranos. Holmes has been serving a life sentence for committing fraud. Not only this, the prison camp also houses Real Housewives of Salt Lake City TV star Jen Shah, who was jailed for committing fraud.
The timing of it all
Maxwell's move from FCI Tallahassee, a low-security prison, to the federal prison camp in Bryan came roughly a month after she was interviewed in Florida by the US attorney general, Todd Blanche, who is also one of Donald Trump's former lawyers. Maxwell was interviewed in two days about the Epstein case.
Meanwhile, Blanche has maintained that he wanted to speak with Maxwell, who was sentenced in 2022 for sex trafficking and other related crimes, to see if she has 'information about anyone who has committed crimes against victims'.
However, the details of the meeting have not been made public as of now. Maxwell's lawyer, on the other hand, described the meeting as ' very productive', adding that Maxwell answered the questions 'honestly, truthfully, to the best of her ability'.
It is pertinent to note that the interview is taking place amid growing political and public pressure on the Trump administration to release the infamous Epstein files. The backlash started in July after the Department of Justice and FBI released a joint memo announcing that they would not be releasing any more documents from the investigation into the late Epstein, who died in prison in New York in 2019 while awaiting federal trial.
The announcement came despite earlier pledges to release more files by the US president and the US attorney general, . Last week, the US House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform subpoenaed Maxwell to testify via deposition. In response to this, Maxwell's lawyer sent a letter this week, stating that she was willing to testify but only if certain conditions were met, including being granted immunity. In that same letter, Maxwell also made a plea for clemency.

However, on Friday, the House indefinitely postponed that deposition. Amidst this, Maxwell has petitioned the US Supreme Court to overturn her conviction.

The left ventricular hypertrophy is a condition in which the muscular wall of the heart's left ventricle thickens, making it harder for blood to be pumped effectively. The condition often develops when the heart is working harder than normal or because of higher blood pressure. Meanwhile, ischemic heart disease involves a condition in which the heart muscle doesn't receive enough blood and oxygen, usually due to narrowed arteries. The coroner's office in its report, mentioned, 'In light of this, the investigation has now been discontinued pursuant to Section 4 of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009… there will be no need for an inquest." NDTV reported. They added that Rani Kapur's subsequent claims – that he was 'murdered as part of a transnational conspiracy' are bewildering. Notably, Rani Kapur last week wrote to Surrey Police and said she has 'credible and concerning evidence… that suggests that her son's death may not have been accidental or natural, but may have involved foul play…" Rani Kapur's letter gained massive public attention, pointing towards a family dispute. This started with her e-mail to the board of Sona Comstar demanding that it postpone an annual general meeting. She identified herself as the 'majority shareholder of the Sona Group', which includes Sona Comstar and Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd and alleged she had been 'compelled to sign documents" while she was grieving for her son. She also questioned the decision to appoint 'certain people (i.e., Priya Sachdev Kapur)". In fact, she also highlighted 'gross illegalities" in company affairs. Soon after Rani Kapur's statement, the company responded and stated that Ms Kapur is not a shareholder, majority or otherwise, and had not been one since 2019. The company said in May 2019 a 'declaration of significant beneficial ownership" named Sunjay Kapur as the 'sole beneficial owner…" The board also denied her claims that she was forced to sign documents behind closed doors. Bangladesh under Yunus: Mob rule and mayhem see over 600 lynching deaths in year since Hasina's fall
In the one year since the ouster of Sheikh Hasina and the appointment of Muhammad Yunus as the country's interim ruler, Bangladesh has descended into a state of lawlessness helmed by Islamists, with mob justice becoming the norm. Amid cyclic attacks on the country's religious minorities, particularly Hindus, mob violence has increasingly become the norm in Bangladesh that has not even spared the country's police personnel. Since August 5, 2024, at least 637 people, including 41 police personnel, have been lynched in Bangladesh, according to Canada-based Global Centre for Democratic Governance's (GCDG) data carried by The Economic Times. They have waged a campaign of retribution against political opponents, particularly the workers, activists, and leaders of Hasina's Bangladesh Awami League (BAL). They have also attacked the country's minorities, particularly Hindus, whom they accused of siding with Hasina. In the past year, Hindus have been attacked in their houses, their houses have been burnt, and their temples have been attacked. Instead of making the protection of minorities' protection a priority, Yunus has presided over the state patronage of extremists, which has included acts like the release of jihadist leaders from jail. Most lynching victims were from Hasina's party Of those lynched, around 70 per cent of victims were from Hasina's BAL, local human rights bodies have said. These victims have largely been from Hindu and Ahmadiya Muslim communities, which have been a favourite target of Islamists in the country. Even though agitating groups said they were fighting for democracy, they have propped an unelected regime of Yunus with little accountability. The regime has not yet announced a date for elections and continues to run the country without any mandate from the people.
