Astros pitcher Spencer Arrighetti won't need surgery on broken right thumb, team says
Arrighetti was injured when he was hit by a line drive while playing catch in left field before Monday night's game at Seattle.
'We want to take it one step at a time, but no surgery is great news,' Espada said of the 25 year old, who was placed on the 15-day IL on Tuesday, retroactive to Monday.
Espada said Arrighetti will be in a cast for up to two-and-a-half weeks. He'll then have additional testing before starting physical therapy.
'After that, if everything looks fine, we can probably start talking about him starting to play catch,' Espada said. 'He was upbeat this morning. I think it's good news.'
Arrighetti is 1-1 with a 5.59 ERA in two starts this season. He allowed five runs and three hits in 3 2/3 innings during Saturday's 6-1 loss at Minnesota. The sixth-round pick in the 2021 amateur draft went 7-13 with a 4.53 ERA in 28 starts and one relief appearance as a rookie last season.
The Astros also said right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. is scheduled to make his third rehab start this weekend on the road back from forearm surgery two years ago.
McCullers, who had right forearm surgery in June 2023, is scheduled to start Saturday at Triple-A Sugar Land.
The 31-year-old McCullers hasn't pitched since Game 3 of the 2022 World Series, when he took the loss against the Philadelphia Phillies. Houston won the series in six games.
McCullers threw two innings and 35 pitches for Triple-A Sugar Land on March 30. He worked 1 2/3 innings for Double-A Corpus Christi on Saturday, allowing four hits, three walks and four runs, two earned, on 50 pitches.
He is 49-32 with a 3.48 ERA in seven seasons, all with Houston.

Four Nittany Lions make preseason All-American teams
In a preseason that has contained the most hype for the Nittany Lions in over two decades, Penn State continues to dominate preseason All-American teams. The AP just released their teams yesterday and Penn State's dominance was almost certainly felt. Four Nittany Lions ultimately ended up landing on their teams, with three first-team selections and one second-team selection. That ties them with Texas for most first-team selections in the country and finally gives them a second-teamer after the same three players had been selected to the first teams of several other publications. The three players in question that again made the first team are defensive tackle and breakout star of last season Zane Durant, offensive lineman Olaivevega Ioane, and star running back Nicholas Singleton. Backfield running mate Kaytron Allen slots into the second team. This marks Durant's fifth preseason All-American team selection across five publications, Ioane's sixth, and Singleton's fifth. This is Allen's second second-team selection, but it is still notable that one of the deepest squads somehow don't have the subsequent depth on All-American preseason teams. Despite some snubs however, the fact that Durant, Ioane, and Singleton have represented the team so strongly must feel good for Penn State fans. Durant had a breakout 2024 that saw him tied for first amongst defensive tackles and sacks with three and third in TFLs with 11. Ioane was an All-Big Ten second team selection last year and helped the Nittany Lions have one of the most efficient offenses in the country, leading the nation in first downs. And people don't have to be told about both Singleton and Allen, as both could be on the precipice of being Nos. 1 and 2, respectively on Penn State's all-time rushing leaders charts. They already are 1 and 2 in terms of returning FBS players, so why not go for a program record and leave a major legacy behind? These preseason All-American selections do bolster their odds. Most importantly, this gives Penn State bragging rights within the conference. In fact, the only other Big Ten squad to even have multiple first-team selections was No. 3 Ohio State, landing both Jeremiah Smith and Caleb Downs on the first team. Not even those selections can slow Penn State's mojo however. Let's see if these selections prove the Associated Press right.

Jimmy Butler lands at No. 40 in NBA 2K26 top 100 ranking
Rising into the Top 50 👀Who are you surprised to see here in the #NBA2KTop100? An early sign that the NBA season is nearing is the release of the video game, NBA 2K. While the release date is set for September 6 for the new edition of NBA 2K26, the video game franchise has begun to release player ratings for some of the top players around the association. On social media, NBA 2K is counting down the top 100 players in the game. As players ranked 50-31 were released, a member of the Golden State Warriors made an appearance on the countdown. At No. 40, Golden State veteran forward Jimmy Butler was listed with an 87 overall rating. NBA 2K26 will be the second consecutive year where Butler will start the game with a rating in the 80 range. Prior to NBA 2K25, Butler earned a rating of at least 91 for three straight seasons, including a high of 95 in 2K24. Butler has been rated with a 90 or above four times in his career. Butler's 87 rating 2K26 is his lowest rating since NBA 2K16. Houston's Amen Thompson (41), Boston's Derrick White (39), Los Angeles Clippers' Ivica Zubac (38), New Orleans' Zion Willamson (37), Cleveland's Darius Garland (36), Charlotte's LaMelo Ball (35), Houston's Alperen Sengun (34) and Sacramento's Domantas Sabonis (33) all joined Butler with an 87 rating. Butler played 35 games with the Warriors last season after being acquired at the trade deadline. In his first stint with the Warriors, the 14-year veteran averaged 17.9 points on 47.6% shooting from the field with 5.9 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game.
