TCS gives out variable pay! Over 70% employees to get 100% variable; no decision yet on salary hikes

At TCS, the hierarchical structure begins with Y grade for trainees, progressing to C1 for systems engineers.
TCS variable pay: In good news for a majority of its employees, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India's largest IT services firm, will give 100% variable pay out to around 70% of its staff for the April to June quarter.
The compensation for remaining staff members will be decided by their business units' performance metrics.
Although quarterly variable payments have been consistently distributed, the organisation is yet to finalise its annual salary hike policy. This delay comes amidst challenging economic conditions, resulting in the company experiencing revenue decline in dollar terms for three consecutive quarters.

TCS has verified the disbursement of variable compensation. A company representative told ET that the eligibility requirements remain "in line with our standard practice across quarters".
In an email communication to staff last week, chief human resources officer Milind Lakkad reportedly said, "All employees up to C2 grade (or equivalent grades) covered under the QVA plan will receive 100% of the Quarterly Variable Allowance (QVA).

The leading IT services provider increased its workforce by 5,060 people during the quarter ending June, bringing its total employee strength to approximately 613,000.
The TCS chief executive K Krithivasan spoke of ongoing challenges in Q1 in last week's earnings announcement, highlighting the persistent and heightened delays in decision-making and project initiations.
He noted that global business operations faced disruptions stemming from conflicts, economic instability and supply chain complications.
For software service providers, the ability to drive growth significantly depends on discretionary technology investments from their clients.
Krithivasan expressed that whilst discretionary expenditure remains low across various sectors, he anticipates a recovery once the broader economic landscape becomes more definitive.

Elon Musk's Grok AI now has anime companion characters

. Elon Musk's AI chatbot Grok has introduced animated companion characters for paid subscribers, marking a significant pivot following last week's antisemitic content controversy . The feature, available to "Super Grok" subscribers paying $30 monthly, includes two AI personalities: Ani, an anime-styled woman described as a "digital waifu," and Rudy, a sarcastic red panda character. Both companions feature NSFW modes, with Ani appearing in revealing outfits, while Rudy is characterized as having a "smart mouth" and rude personality. The companions have their own X social media accounts, with Ani's bio stating she's "smooth, a little unpredictable" and might "dance, tease, or just watch you figure me out." Safety concerns mount Over Grok's AI companions The launch raises significant safety questions given recent controversies surrounding AI companions. currently faces multiple lawsuits from parents whose children were allegedly encouraged by chatbots to engage in self-harm or violence against family members. Research has identified "significant risks" in people using AI chatbots as emotional support systems, companions, or therapeutic tools. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The timing appears particularly problematic given xAI's recent struggles with content moderation. Just last week, Grok generated antisemitic content and reportedly called itself "MechaHitler," which the company attributed to "an update to a code path upstream of the @grok bot." Additional companions are reportedly in development, including a male anime character named "Chad" listed as "coming soon." While currently requiring manual activation in settings, Musk indicated the feature would become easier to access within days, describing the current version as a "soft launch." Rs 1 lakh salary not needed, even Rs 30,000 earners can easily be rich: CA shares financial advice to build wealth

A large paycheck is often equated with financial success, but Chartered Accountant Nitin Kaushik has offered a different perspective that questions this conventional view. According to him, earning Rs 1 lakh or more each month doesn't automatically translate into lasting wealth. What truly determines financial progress, he says, is not the income level, but the ability to manage and grow whatever income one has. Kaushik explained that people earning Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 monthly can still work towards meaningful financial goals if they adopt the right money practices. It's not about how much comes in, but how much stays — and what is done with it. Start Small, Stay Consistent Instead of focusing on high income alone, Kaushik stressed the importance of spending less than one earns and investing the remaining amount regularly. He encouraged individuals to begin investing even modest sums through tools like SIPs (Systematic Investment Plans). He said that even small contributions, when done consistently over a decade or more, can grow into significant sums due to the power of compounding. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Specialist Down Jackets for Ultralight Adventures Trek Kit India Learn More Kaushik emphasized patience, urging people not to seek overnight results. The focus should be on long-term consistency rather than chasing market highs or trying to time investments. — Finance_Bareek (@Finance_Bareek) Beware of Shortcuts and Risky Bets He also warned against common financial traps, particularly the temptation of high-risk options like cryptocurrency trading or frequent stock market speculation. Kaushik noted that many people end up losing more than they gain in their pursuit of quick returns. According to him, real wealth often grows quietly — through methodical steps rather than dramatic wins. He added that wealth built gradually, without shortcuts or reliance on inheritance, tends to be more stable and enduring. Discipline Over Glamour in Money Matters Kaushik's message concluded with a reminder that flashy purchases and unpredictable income boosts don't equate to financial security. Instead, it is the routine habit of saving and investing, month after month, that creates lasting wealth. He underscored the idea that in personal finance , consistency matters far more than charisma or shortcuts.
