has introduced animated companion characters for paid subscribers, marking a significant pivot following last week's
antisemitic content controversy
. The feature, available to "Super Grok" subscribers paying $30 monthly, includes two AI personalities: Ani, an anime-styled woman described as a "digital waifu," and Rudy, a sarcastic red panda character.
Both companions feature NSFW modes, with Ani appearing in revealing outfits, while Rudy is characterized as having a "smart mouth" and rude personality. The companions have their own X social media accounts, with Ani's bio stating she's "smooth, a little unpredictable" and might "dance, tease, or just watch you figure me out."
Safety concerns mount Over Grok's AI companions
The launch raises significant safety questions given recent controversies surrounding AI companions. Character.AI currently faces multiple lawsuits from parents whose children were allegedly encouraged by chatbots to engage in self-harm or violence against family members. Research has identified "significant risks" in people using AI chatbots as emotional support systems, companions, or therapeutic tools.

The focus, sources said, is essentially on seven Nepal-bordering districts, Pilibhit, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Shrawasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, and Maharajganj. The price of urea in Nepal is almost 10 times higher than in India. A 25 kg urea sack in India costs around Rs 266. This, however, soars to over Rs 2500, a top official in the agriculture department said, requesting anonymity. The stark price differential has created a lucrative black market, tempting local networks to siphon subsidised fertiliser meant for Indian farmers. "Our top priority is to step up vigilance at the international border (Nepal border)," the official said. He revealed that incidents of fertilisers being transported clandestinely on bicycles recently came to notice. Likewise, strict monitoring has been ordered in 28 districts, including Saharanpur, Bareilly, GB Nagar, Ghaziabad, Banda, Lalitpur, Mathura, and Chandauli, which border other states. A recent govt order issued by principal secretary (agriculture), Ravindra, highlights the concern. The GO addressed to all DMs of the seven districts bordering Nepal suggested steps to check the smuggling of fertilisers from the international border. Ravindra emphasised disallowing registration certificates for fertiliser sales within 5 km of the international border. He also stressed establishing strong coordination with police and the state investigation bureau to take strict action against anti-social elements engaged in pilferage of fertilisers. Fertiliser is covered under the Essential Commodity Act 1955, which aims to control the production, supply, distribution, trade, and commerce in certain commodities in the interest of the public. The state govt has also asked the agriculture, police, and administrative authorities to beef up inspections by forming dedicated teams and keeping a hawk eye on the movement of fertilisers through border check posts. At the same time, the agriculture department has been asked to validate the requirement of fertilisers at the district level. A senior official said that a close watch is being kept on the "unusually high" sale of fertilisers in the districts.

Mechanised paddy transplanting gains in popularity
1 2 Udupi: A quiet revolution is transforming the district's fields. The mechanised paddy transplanting that began in 2013 as a modest experiment on just 500 acres has now expanded to over 15,000 acres. This method has not only changed how rice is grown in the district, but is also creating a new breed of rural entrepreneurs, said Shankar M, associate professor at the Zonal Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station in Brahmavar. The total area dedicated to paddy cultivation in Udupi is about 30,000–35,000 hectares. He said that the mechanised method using paddy trays is rapidly replacing the labour-intensive traditional transplanting system. "Earlier, seeds were sown directly and manually transplanted after 30 days. In the improved method, saplings are grown in trays and are ready in 16-18 days for machine transplanting," he said. Each acre requires about 80 trays of seedlings. The tray resembles a mat, making it easy to handle, transport, and maintain. "What is fuelling the shift is not just convenience, but for agri-entrepreneurs, it is an opportunity. The model has become a seasonal business success for three months. DDA schedules meeting for auction of Rohini warehouse land parcel
New Delhi: Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has scheduled a meeting with potential buyers interested in the auction of a 23-acre land parcel in Rohini, Sector 36, earmarked for extensive warehousing operations, on Wednesday. The property will be available through an annual licensing fee arrangement of Rs 17.4 crore. While DDA previously auctioned land for warehouses, this initiative represents their first foray into developing a large-scale warehousing complex. With this, DDA intends to establish facilities that will discourage individuals from buying warehouse properties in NCR regions. The property will be leased for a duration of 33 years, with the licensee bearing responsibility for development, financing, operations, and maintenance of the project as stipulated in the licence deed. "The meeting has been called to discuss the queries as we are keen to roll out the plan in a time-bound manner," said a DDA official. According to the plan, upon the termination or expiry of the licence period in accordance with the provisions of this deed, the concessionaire will need to transfer the land to the authority.
