‘The WHITE Truth': HGVS web series to combat drug addiction among youth

Shimla, Jul 25(UNI) In a educational and creative move to combat the rising tide of drug abuse among youth especially teens, Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti (HGVS)—a repute rationalist and civil rights organization has developed a powerful campaign titled 'The WHITE Truth.'
The initiative features a seven-episode web series that blends entertainment with impactful moral messaging, delivered through an educational and supportive framework.
Unlike conventional awareness efforts, The WHITE Truth confronts the harsh realities of substance abuse head-on. It not only highlights the physical and psychological toll on youth but also explores deeper issues such as social stigma, denial, flawed parenting, systemic loopholes, and the complex nexus of the drug trade.
Developed entirely by grassroots youth volunteers inspired by HGVS's ideology, the series emphasizes community-driven solutions and aims to break the silence surrounding drug addiction.
The first season of the series would be launched under HGVS's digital media wing, Gyan Vigyan Stream (GVS), and will be made available on multiple platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The trailer is set for release on International Youth Day, August 12, 2025, while the complete series would be launched across all districts simultaneously on International Literacy Day, September 8, 2025.
To maximize reach, the organization has appealed to community members and partner institutions to help disseminate the content through their networks and social media group including . Posters, introduction videos, and promotional materials will be released shortly to build momentum.
This initiative marks a shift from the 'white lie' to 'The WHITE Truth'—a message HGVS hopes will spark honest dialogue and collective action against one of society's most pressing issues.

Moga (Punjab) July 30 (UNI) A statue of late runner Fauja Singh will be installed shortly at Moga' s famous Mahan Desh Bhagat Park. Fauja Singh passed away at the age of 114 years on July 14, 2025 at his native Jalandhar village in Beas Pind when a motor vehicle ran into him. Singh, a global running legend had several age group level records to his name. He started his running career at the ripe age of 89. At 100, he became the first centenarian to complete a marathon, when he finished the 2011 Toronto Waterfront Marathon. Well known statue artists Manjeet Singh Gill and his brother Surjit Singh Gill are constructing the statue. "We will be making two statues of Fauja saab, one will be installed at the Mahan Desh Bhagat park in Moga, while the other will be given to Fauja Singh's family in Jalandhar" said well known sculpture MS Gill in an exclusive chat with UNI. The popular 'Mahan Desh Bhagat park' is situated at Ghall Kalan village in this district. Gill informed that the statue will be made of mixed metal and fibre glass and would be six and a half feet in height. Gill explained that he and his brother decided to create Fauja Singh' s statue because the athlete brought glory to the nation and was an inspiration to the people. "We artists can only pay the tribute through our art, we create sculptures of those people who contribute something to society, what Singh did was unparalleled. He brought a great deal of pride to the country, he gave a message to youngsters to stay away from drugs, and he showed the elderly that health was a matter of lifestyle," Gill said. The Mahan Desh Bhagat Park started and maintained by the Gill brothers has several statues of freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Chandrashekhar Azad, Madan Lal Dhingra, Lal Bahadur Shastri. Apart from patriotic personalities statues of poets like Bulleh Shah, Ustad Najmi scientists like Albert Einstein and Narendra Singh Kapany are also there. Statues of religious figures like the Sikh Gurus and Indian Army's martyrs further raise the sanctity of the park. UNI RKM BM

Bengal CM Mamata pays tributes to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar

Kolkata, July 24 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today paid tributes to legendary Bengali matinee idol Mahanayak Uttam Kumar on his 45th death anniversary. " I pay my heartfelt tribute to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar on his death anniversary, the chief minister said on her X handle while paying her glowing tributes to the evergreen actor, who died at age of 54 in 1980. Uttam Kumar, born Arun Kumar Chattopadhyay on September 3, 1926, and widely revered as Mahanayak (Great Hero), was a celebrated film actor, producer, director, screenwriter, composer, and playback singer who predominantly worked in Bengali cinema. His illustrious career spanned over three decades, from the late 1940s until his untimely death in 1980. He is regarded as one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema and remains the most popular and successful film star in Bengal. Uttam Kumar appeared in over 200 films, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of millions. 'Uttam Kumar, the eternal matinee idol of Bengalis, still lives in all our hearts. Even though 45 years have passed since his death, our affection for him has not diminished in the slightest,' Banerjee said. 'I am proud that, in tribute to Uttam Kumar's unique contribution to cinema and Bengali consciousness, our government introduced the Mahanayak Samman Puraskar in 2012 to honour distinguished actors and actresses.' She further added, 'When I was the Railway Minister, the Tollygunge Metro Railway Station was renamed Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. 'Uttam Mancha', a cultural auditorium named after him, is also being renovated. Uttam Kumar is the hero of Bengali dreams — an eternal symbol of love and admiration.
