Rehan Ahmed impresses as Trent Rockets dominate Manchester Originals
The home side dominated from the outset at Trent Bridge with captain David Willey taking three for 11 – including the wickets of Jos Buttler and Rachin Ravindra – inside the first 30 balls.
Ahmed then removed Phil Salt and Heinrich Klaasen as the Originals staggered to 51 for six – the lowest score by a team after 60 balls in this season's Hundred – before they finished on 98 for eight.
Joe Root (four) and Tom Banton (11) fell to Sonny Baker and Ravindra in the space of four balls to leave the Rockets on 21 for two and provide some hope for the visitors.
However, Ahmed fired 45 runs off 35 deliveries, while Tom Moores also chipped in with an unbeaten 22 as the Rockets cruised to their target with 26 balls remaining.
The Rockets are second in the table, level on points with Southern Brave, albeit behind on net runs, while the Originals' seventh defeat in eight away from Old Trafford sees them drop to sixth.
Earlier, Beth Mooney and Kathryn Bryce steered the Originals to an emphatic 10-wicket victory against the Rockets.
England duo Sophie Ecclestone (two for 12) and Lauren Filer (three for 23) sent the visitors on their way as the Rockets – with Nat Sciver-Brunt (34) the only home batter to make it out of the teens – were restricted to 111 for seven.
In response, captain Mooney (47 from 37 balls) landed four boundaries and one six, while Bryce (61 from 45 deliveries), who also took two wickets with the ball, struck eight fours.
Their record opening partnership paved the way for the Originals to complete just the third 10-wicket win in history of The Hundred women's competition with 18 balls spare.
The Originals have now recorded four wins from their six games taking them into the play-off positions in third, and boosting their hopes of progressing out of the group phase.
However, the Rockets stay in sixth having amassed four losses from their five fixtures.

Cricket: All five Taunton Deane Saturday teams celebrate victory
Taunton Deane Cricket Club's first XI moved closer to promotion after a weekend of victories. The weekend started with the Deane Diamonds playing Bridgwater Red Sox in the U19 cup semi-final on Friday, August 15. Jonty Lusk and Jack Blackwell scored at a rate of more than two runs per ball, with Jonty retiring on 54 after hitting a six to the Deane clubhouse. Captain Josh Cobb also passed the retirement mark, leaving Alex Chaffey and Benny Jessop to finish the innings at 229-3. Bridgwater's response was strong, with Tom Fursland hitting four sixes and four fours in his 53. However, they could not maintain the pace and ended on 153, 76 runs short. The next day, Taunton Deane's first XI travelled to North Perrott, where an unbeaten century from Bhuvanesh Jayaraman led them to victory. The Deane score was a worrying 49-4 in the 11th over and 97-6 at the halfway point, but a partnership of 122 between Jayaraman, who finished on 105 not out, and Sunil Lachit, who scored 65, took the final total to 242-8. The Deane bowlers initially struggled but found their rhythm, curbing the Perrott run rate and taking regular wickets. This left the Deane with two more wins needed to secure promotion. The Deane second XI hosted the North Petherton first XI at the Convent Field. The opposition was restricted to 208-7 by eight Deane bowlers. The Deane response was dominated by Alfie Jaques, who hit 10 off the 33rd over to reach a century. The thirds travelled to Winford to take on Shaftesbury Road first XI and powered past the target of 239 in the 31st over. Harry Quirk took four wickets for 17 runs, and the Deane batting was equally impressive. James Salt and Shafin Akhtar both scored 50s, but the player of the game was Dave Jessop with 83 from just 50 balls. The fourths were at home to Yeovil thirds, who were limited to 137 by Matthew Hughes, who finished with figures of 4-20, and Neil Lane, who finished with figures of 3-34. The Deane lost only two wickets in reaching the target. The fifths also scored a memorable victory over the Wellington third XI, with Jack Monsey leading the way with 112. Dilagha Armani was the pick of the bowlers, taking five wickets for 24 runs. With the junior section now on its summer break, there were only two Deane games on Sunday. The Deane Sunday T20 team were no match for the Taunton Indian XI, and the women's first XI played Cheltenham, who scored 294 from their 40 overs. The Deane's response of 121 was dominated by Hannah Hughes' score of 41, who showed she retains all the qualities that make her such a good cricketer.

Somerset cricket legends return to Sidmouth for 150th anniversary match
On August 18, 2025, a team of Somerset cricketing legends returned to Sidmouth CC to play a match to celebrate the formation of the county club at the same venue exactly 150 years ago, writes Richard Walsh. The Somerset legends team, led by chief executive Jamie Cox, included five members of the team that he led at Lord's to win the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy at Lord's in 2001: Andy Caddick, Mike Burns, Keith Parsons, and Steffan Jones. The team also included three current members of the Somerset Women's team: Chloe Skelton, Sophie Luff, and Jess Hazell, who kept wicket, as well as James Hildreth, Pete Trego, and Mike Parsons. Batting first against a Men and Women's Sidmouth XI, the Somerset side opened with Burns and Caddick, who put on 17 before Caddick was out in the fourth over for eight. Burns was joined by Trego, who upped the tempo immediately and hit the first six of the evening. In response, Burns hit his first six, but it was Trego who lit up the evening with his big-hitting antics, peppering the Belmont Hotel boundary wall and even blasting one into the sea! The pair added 70 together when Burns was out for 23. Trego was joined by Hildreth, and both showed that they had lost none of their prowess with the bat. Trego went to his half-century with a big six and immediately retired, his 55 coming from 29 balls with three fours and six sixes. Hildreth also went to his half-century off 29 balls with three fours and five sixes before he retired. When Cox was joined by Keith Parsons, suddenly it was 2001 again as the pair ran between the wickets and added 31 in three overs. Skipper Cox remained unbeaten on 24 off 14 balls as Somerset ended on 196-5 from their 20 overs. When Sidmouth batted, Cox tossed the ball to Jones, another throwback to the 2001 final, and the Welshman duly obliged by having opener Charles Brock sharply caught by 'keeper Hazell. Josh Patidar and new batter Matt Matravers added 42 in three overs before the opener was caught by Luff off Mike Parsons. Matravers hit 25 off 11 before Hazell caught him off Trego, after which only Akeem Jordan threatened to spoil the party with 23 before he fell to Keith Parsons. Appropriately, the final wicket was claimed by Captain Cox, who had Will Murray caught and bowled from his only delivery. Immediately afterwards, the Somerset CEO addressed the crowd, saying: "It's awesome to have this many people here. "This club has been around a long time, and as you know, it's our birthday today. "The club is here because of our people, who are amazing, and I can't thank you enough for coming along and supporting tonight. "Quite frankly, it's overwhelming to see so many people come and watch a friendly game. "Thank you to Sidmouth for putting on the night, to everyone for coming and playing, and to my team, many of them my old team mates, and to the three girls - not one of them said no." He added: "I can't thank you enough for coming along tonight." This was a unique and special cricketing occasion that was enjoyed by the very large crowd in a warm and relaxing atmosphere against the backdrop of the sea, a perfect way to celebrate Somerset's 150th birthday!
