Brit Awards move to Manchester from next year
The biggest night of the UK music industry calendar has been held in London for the past four decades but will move to the Manchester Co-op Live arena in 2026 and 2027.
The 2026 ceremony on Saturday February 28 will be broadcast exclusively on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player.
Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester said: 'For the Brit Awards to move out of London is a massive coup for Greater Manchester.
'After 48 years, it is great that this prestigious global event is about to arrive in the UK capital of music and culture.
'Greater Manchester has an unparalleled music heritage known around the world, and this summer will play host to some of the biggest gigs on the planet.
'That was only made possible by our strong commitment to new talent and giving emerging artists the opportunities to make their name.
'We thank our friends at the BPI for choosing Manchester and we will pull out all the stops to show they made the right decision.
'Celebrating the Brit Awards right here in the home of 24 hour party people is the next chapter in its story and you can be sure that we will help them do it in style.'
The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) is the trade body for the UK's music industry.
Next year's Brit Awards will be the first of three years under the stewardship of Sony Music UK, which spearheaded the move to Manchester.

Mastercard will continue their long-standing headline sponsorship, now in its 28th year.
Charli XCX was the stand-out star at this year's Brit Awards at London's O2 Arena, taking home five awards including album of the year for her sixth studio release, Brat.
US pop star Sabrina Carpenter was the recipient of the global success award, while former Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall collected the best pop act award.
US pop star Chappell Roan won international song of the year for Good Luck, Babe!
Co-op Live is currently Britain's biggest indoor arena and opened in May 2024 after several delays.
British band Elbow opened the 23,500-capacity venue and since then acts including Sir Paul McCartney and Charli XCX have held gigs.

It has been one of the high points of London's music calendar for almost half a century, but the Brit awards has confirmed it is ditching the capital and moving to Manchester next year. The celebration of British music will be held at the Co-op Live arena in 2026 and 2027 – its 50th anniversary – as part of plans to 'invigorate' the show, organisers said. Next year is the first of three years of Sony stewardship for the Brit awards, responsible for some the UK's most famous music moments led by northern acts, including Jarvis Cocker mooning at Michael Jackson in 1996, Chumbawamba dumping a bucket of ice water over the then deputy prime minister John Prescott in 1998, and Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner's literal mic-drop after his speech trashing the music industry in 2014. Organisers said moving the Brits to the home of the legendary Haçienda club and Factory Records 'perfectly captures the spirit and energy' of the event. The move is part of a wider trend in the music industry towards celebrating the north of England as being responsible for some of the world's biggest music stars past and present. The MTV European music awards were held at Co-op Live last year, and the Mobo awards has spent its last two years in the northern cities of Sheffield and Newcastle. The Northern music awards, recognising homegrown talent, are in their second year after their inaugural event in Manchester in 2024.

ITV Shardlake: Full cast list and when it will be on TV
This was brought to life in a four-part series, which was released on Disney in 2024, and now the episodes will be broadcast on ITV1 over the coming weeks. The series will follow Matthew Shardlake (Hughes), a 16th-century lawyer tasked with investigating a murder at a monastery. A synopsis on the Radio Times website says: "Idealistic lawyer Matthew Shardlake (Arthur Hughes) works for Thomas Cromwell (Sean Bean) and is dedicated to serving justice and the Crown. "He is flanked by cocky assistant Jack Barak (Anthony Boyle), who could be a spy for Cromwell. "Shardlake is living with scoliosis and is rudely dismissed as a 'crookback' by Tudor society as he carries out his duties. "Weathering the verbal abuse, Shardlake and Barak travel to the remote town of Scarnsea to investigate the murder of a commissioner, who was gathering evidence for Cromwell to close the local monastery." Discussing the show, writer Stephen Butchard explained how, despite the historical setting, there were plenty of aspects that could relate to modern times. As reported by the Radio Times, he said: "We don't change. This is the 16th century, but the same things are going on today. "With the dissolution of the monasteries, the money was supposedly going for the benefit of the common people, but that didn't happen, it ended up in the hands of the king and Cromwell. "And that happens today. Contracts [...] end up going to friends of [politicians], and fast-tracks and stuff like that. "We do not change, politicians don't change. But the good thing also is that there are always good people and that's what this is about. This is about good men, good women, it's about the good people just as much as it is about the villainous people." Disney Plus confirmed in January 2025 that they were not planning to make another series of Shardlake, despite there being more books to potentially adapt.
