NCST intervenes in excessive fee collection by pvt engg colleges
Hyderabad: Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTU-H) has instructed the principals of its affiliated colleges to address complaints regarding the excessive fees being charged to students.
In a letter to all private unaided colleges affiliated with JNTU-H, Registrar Dr K Venkateswara Rao emphasised the need to adhere to the fee collection procedures set by the State government.
The JNTU-H issued the directions against the backdrop of a complaint filed by D Rakesh and Hanumanth Naik about the colleges charging fees in violation of Government Order Ms No 37, issued on October 18, 2022. A meeting held at the NCST Court Hall in New Delhi was attended by the Registrar, the Director of Autonomous College Affairs, and the Principal of JBIET. It was stressed in the meeting to ensure compliance with the fee regulations.
The meeting was convened by Jatothu Hussain, a member of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST). The meeting noted that universities, including JNTU, Osmania, and Kakatiya, shall ensure that all engineering colleges under their jurisdiction adhere to the prescribed fee structure. Colleges that violate these regulations may face blacklisting, and their management may be subject to strict action from the Higher Education Department.
The NCST has also directed universities to review any fee violations by private engineering colleges over the past five years and ensure that any student certificates held by these colleges are returned. Consequently, the Vice-Chancellor has been requested to instruct all affiliated college principals to follow the fee collection guidelines issued by the Government and the University.
He warned that colleges must not withhold student certificates after the programme completion. Colleges found in violation of these rules will face stringent action by the University by existing regulations.

Trump Travel Ban Explained: Which Countries Are Most Impacted And Why
New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has imposed a ban on citizens from 12 countries, along with entry restrictions on nationals from seven other nations, citing national security and immigration enforcement concerns. The US President signed the executive order on June 4, nearly five months after taking office for the second term, and it will come into effect on June 9. List of banned countries The travel ban has been divided into two categories: a complete ban and a partial ban. Trump has imposed a full entry ban on 12 countries - Afghanistan, Myanmar, the Republic of the Congo, Haiti, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Sudan, Yemen, Eritrea, and Somalia. The complete travel ban means the citizens of the aforementioned countries cannot enter the US at all irrespective of the reason and purpose. He said that these countries don't respect US immigration rules. Most countries on the list denied taking their citizens back and most of the people from here overstayed their visas, he said. The partial ban means people having certain types of visas, such as immigrant visas, B-1 business visas, B-2 tourism visas, combined business and tourism visas, F student visas, M vocational training visas, and J exchange visitor visas, are barred from entering the US. Only people holding H-1B work visas are allowed to enter the US. Partial restrictions apply to seven countries - Burundi, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, Cuba, and Venezuela. Who is exempt from the ban? There are several people exempt from the ban. Those are: 1. Green card holders and legal permanent residents. 2. People having dual citizenship, one of the US and another of the banned countries. 3. Athletes, coaches and teams travelling for a global sporting event such as the World Cup or the Olympics. 4. Iranians from an ethnic or religious minority fleeing prosecution. 5. Foreign nationals who have worked for the US government for at least 15 years, along with their families and children. 6. GHMC officials told to rev up land acquisition for Rasoolpura flyover
Hyderabad: The city's infrastructure is set to undergo a major transformation, as the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has taken up the flyover project at Rasoolpura under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) initiative. Commissioner RV Karnan directed officials to expedite land acquisition for the flyover. On Thursday, as part of the Secunderabad Railway Station redevelopment, RV Karnan inspected nearby bus stops and reviewed the progress of related infrastructure works. He also visited the proposed site for the Rasoolpura flyover and instructed officials to initiate immediate land acquisition. Officials informed the Commissioner that a 24-meter stretch of land from the railway boundary is required for the project. Project SE Srinivas requested the Commissioner to allocate alternate land for the existing bus stop to facilitate its relocation. The inspection aimed to ensure smooth progress of infrastructure works and minimise disruptions. The Rasoolpura flyover project was proposed in 2019 during the tenure of the BRS government. However, the project continues to face inordinate delays, as 1.62 acres of land belonging to the Inter-State Police Wireless Staff Quarters still need to be transferred to the GHMC. Last month, Commissioner RV Karnan, along with Zonal Commissioner Ravi Kiran, inspected various ongoing and proposed works in the Secunderabad zone. The inspection covered key areas, including Tarnaka, Chilkalguda, Patigadda, Rasoolpura, and Prakash Nagar. Karnan reviewed the construction of the Tarnaka Junction Island, landscaping plans, and the proposed site for the Chilkalguda H-CITI Road under Bridge (RuB). He also assessed the proposed AOC Road, the Rasoolpura flyover site, alignment works, and land acquisition needed for the expansion of the Patigadda Railway Over Bridge. The Commissioner directed officials to address waterlogging issues near Prakash Nagar and Hyderabad Public School (HPS) by immediately initiating desilting works. The state government has accorded administrative sanction for 23 works under the H-CITI Project, amounting to Rs 5,942 crore, superseding the earlier sanction of Rs 4,305 crore.
